This book was released on 2013-12 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Holmes," said I as I stood one morning in our bow-window looking down the street, "here is a madman coming along. It seems rather sad that his relatives should allow him to come out alone." My friend rose lazily from his armchair and stood with his hands in the pockets of his dressing-gown, looking over my shoulder. It was a bright, crisp February morning, and the snow of the day before still lay deep upon the ground, shimmering brightly in the wintry sun. Down the centre of Baker Street it had been ploughed into a brown crumbly band by the traffic, but at either side and on the heaped-up edges of the foot-paths it still lay as white as when it fell. The grey pavement had been cleaned and scraped, but was still dangerously slippery, so that there were fewer passengers than usual. Indeed, from the direction of the Metropolitan Station no one was coming save the single gentleman whose eccentric conduct had drawn my attention. He was a man of about fifty, tall, portly, and imposing, with a massive, strongly marked face and a commanding figure. He was dressed in a sombre yet rich style, in black frock-coat, shining hat, neat brown gaiters, and well-cut pearl-grey trousers. Yet his actions were in absurd contrast to the dignity of his dress and features, for he was running hard, with occasional little springs, such as a weary man gives who is little accustomed to set any tax upon his legs. As he ran he jerked his hands up and down, waggled his head, and writhed his face into the most extraordinary contortions. "What on earth can be the matter with him?" I asked. "He is looking up at the numbers of the houses." "I believe that he is coming here," said Holmes, rubbing his hands. "Here?"

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The entire series of Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle is now available in large print, using the best practices for senior readers and those who are visually impaired. Each story includes the original Sherlock Holmes mystery as well as a note from the series editor, Craig Stephen Copland, the author of the New Sherlock Holmes Mysteries books. The Adventure of Beryl Coronet, on the surface another Sherlock Holmes story about a major jewel theft, was, for the Victorian reader a thinly disguised "roman a clef" poking fun at the royals and the banking establishment. Holmes must sort out the intense passions amongst members of a wealthy family and conclude that "when you have excluded the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." These books are great gifts for someone you care about who needs a larger size print to be able to enjoy these wonderful stories."

Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was born in 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland. After being educated in England and Austria, Doyle studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh Medical School, and also practical botany at Edinburgh's Royal Botanic Garden. He worked as a ship's doctor and surgeon, and then set up his own medical practice in Portsmouth in 1882. His practice proved unsuccessful, and, having had several pieces of writing published (including academic articles and a short story), he focussed on writing fiction even though his difficulty in finding a publisher led him to continue his work, study, and writings in medicine. A Study in Scarlet, the first work featuring Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, was published in Beeton's Christmas Annual in 1887. Its sequel, The Sign of the Four, appeared in Lippincott's Magazine in 1890, and short stories featuring Sherlock Holmes were published in the Strand Magazine (in 1891, A Scandal in Bohemia introduced him to a wide audience). Made a Knight Bachelor by King Edward VII in 1902, Doyle was also appointed Knight of Grace of the Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem in 1903. While he wrote on a broad range of topics, his other most popular works include Holmes novels The Hound of the Baskervilles (1902) and The Valley of Fear (1915), and science fiction and fantasy novels The Lost World (1912), The Poison Belt (1913), and The Land of Mist (1926) featuring Professor Challenger. Doyle died of a heart attack at his house in Crowborough, East Sussex, in 1930.

Highly incriminating and embarrassing records of the financial and personal affairs of England's nobility are now in the hands of blackmailers - the Beryl Anarchists they call themselves - all passionately involved in the craze of motorcycle riding and in ruthless criminal pursuits. And then a young girl is murdered. Holmes and Watson must find the real culprits and stop them before more crimes are committed - too horrendous to be imagined. This new mystery was inspired by "The Adventure of the Beryl Coronet" and borrows the setting and some of the characters. And, of course, our beloved Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are there, just as they are in the original Canon.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859 - 1930) is known the world over as the creator of the famous consulting detective, Sherlock Holmes. But Conan Doyle was a prolific writer who produced a large body of work ranging from non-fiction and full-length novels to a wide-ranging collection of short stories. Doyle's first major success as a writer came with the debut of Sherlock Holmes in the 1887 publication of "A Study in Scarlet". Holmes was a popular sensation, and more stories followed. By 1891, Sherlock Holmes was enough to provide Doyle a living, but Doyle came to resent Holmes, who kept him from what he considered "more important" work. In 1893 he "killed" Holmes, as the detective and his archenemy, Professor Moriarty, plunged to their deaths at Reichenbach Falls in "The Final Problem". It was no mere publicity stunt. Doyle considered himself finished with Mr. Sherlock Holmes. The public uproar in reaction to Holmes' "death" shocked Doyle, with even his own mother complaining, and as the clamor continued he was forced to bring the detective back in "The Hound of the Baskervilles", published, to vast public sigh of relief, in 1901. Ironically, the character Doyle resented as a "distraction" from serious work would ultimately appear in fifty-six short stories and four novels, together with countless adaptations to films, television, cartoons, and modern pastiches by an assortment of authors. In fact, the "world's first consulting detective" is widely regarded, along with Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan, as the best-known fictional characters in the world.
