Book Forest Industry Wastewaters VI

Download or read book Forest Industry Wastewaters VI written by A. Luonsi and published by IWA Publishing (International Water Assoc). This book was released on 1999-05-31 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sustainable management of the Forest Industries challenges many different disciplines. Not only do the different forest industry sectors vary in the approaches needed, but the unique nature of mills and their surrounding environments create a huge variety of conditions and hence of strategies to be employed. Yet again the IAWQ's Forest Industry Wastewaters Symposium provided a forum for the world's leading experts to discuss the scientific and practical issues and report progress. The proceedings are introduced by 4 invited papers that examine the social, economic and ecological relationships of the forest industries and together with the concluding summary of the sessions and related panel discussion make plain the context in which the industries operate and can continue to improve their performance. The 42 selected papers cover: Process water treatment and recirculation Biological treatment Environmental effects Treatment and utilization of solids Studies of specific compounds and management of residuals and toxicity. These proceedings genuinely constitute a briefing on the state of the art and will prove invaluable to anyone involved as a researcher or a practitioner in the management of forest industry wastewaters.

Book Water Recycling and Resource Recovery in Industry

Download or read book Water Recycling and Resource Recovery in Industry written by Piet Lens and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2002-03-31 with total page 736 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water Recycling and Resource Recovery in Industry: Analysis, Technologies and Implementation provides a definitive and in-depth discussion of the current state-of-the-art tools and technologies enabling the industrial recycling and reuse of water and other resources. The book also presents in detail how these technologies can be implemented in order to maximize resource recycling in industrial practice, and to integrate water and resource recycling in ongoing industrial production processes. Special attention is given to non-process engineering aspects such as systems analysis, software tools, health, regulations, life-cycle analysis, economic impact and public participation. Case studies illustrate the huge potential of environmental technology to optimise resource utilisation in industry. The large number of figures, tables and case studies, together with the book's multidisciplinary approach, makes Water Recycling and Resource Recovery in Industry: Analysis, Technologies and Implementation the perfect reference work for academics, professionals and consultants dealing with industrial water resources recovery. Contents Part I: Industrial reuse for environmental protection Part II: System analysis to assist in closing industrial resource cycles Part III: Characterisation of process water quality Part IV: Technological aspects of closing industrial cycles Part V: Examples of closed water cycles in industrial processes Part VI: Resource protection policies in industry

Book Forest Industry Wastewaters VIII

Download or read book Forest Industry Wastewaters VIII written by C. Mudado Silva and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2007-03-15 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pulp and paper industry poses major environmental challenges, which were the focus of the 8th Forest Industry Wastewaters Symposium: this covered several topics at the leading edge of pulp and paper mills wastewater treatment and ranging from fundamental studies through to mill-scale application. Among the main concerns of the industry regarding liquid effluent treatment were: better understanding of effluent composition and toxicity effects; use of membrane technology in the industry; advanced oxidation processes; microbial dynamics of activated sludge reactors and the role of nutrients; removal of colour and recalcitrant organic matter; and the growing role for anaerobic treatment in the future for the paper industry. The need for further research was highlighted in several areas, especially those related to the removal of recalcitrant organic matter in the effluent, the removal of non-process elements in order to enable water recycling, novel treatment processes to the industry. Significant progress was reported in both currently used processes and in concepts that are novel for the industry. From the high-quality programme 28 papers were selected, following full peer review, for these proceedings, which will be of particular interest to the environmental specialist community of pulp and paper industries, including process engineers, technicians, researchers and consultants in this area.
