Book Franz Brentano s Analysis of Truth

Download or read book Franz Brentano s Analysis of Truth written by Jan Srzednicki and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Franz Brentano 1 was an important philosopher, but for a long time his importance was under-estimated. At least in the English speaking countries, he came to be remembered best as the initiator of a philoso phical position which he in fact abandoned for good and sufficient 2 reasons. His ultimate and most important contributions passed almost unnoticed. Even such a well-informed and well-prepared book as Passmore's IOO Years 01 Philosophy (Duckworth, 1957), is open to the same comment; Passmore concentrated his attention on the early Brentano, because he regarded his influence on the British philo sophical scene as being confined to Brentano's early work. Brentano's pupils, e. g. , Husserl, Meinong, Marty and Twardowski, were often influential and, often enough, they departed from the strict common sense and advisedly cautious attitude of their great teacher. Thus even on the continent, the public image of Brentano tended to be incomplete (and sometimes distorted), outside the narrower circle of pupils, followers, and people with special interest. This, or very nearly this, was still the case in 1955, when my contacts with the followers of Twardowski made me turn towards the study of Brentano. Since then there has been a gratifying revival of interest in his work. His early book on Aristotle was reprinted in German and two of his main positions, Psychologie and Wahrheit und Evidenz, are appearing in English translations. Translations into other languages, e. g.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In these essays, Visker (Fund for Scientific Research, Institute of Philosophy) responds both to those critics of Foucault who place post- structuralism in opposition to phenomenology and those who dismiss Foucault's work out of hand as crass relativism. The essays consider the relationship between Foucault's work to that of the phenomenologists (especially Heidegger), the role of intersubjectivity in the works of Foucault and Merleau-Ponty, and the view of the self that emerges from the writings of Foucault and Levinas. Download or read book Social Domains of Truth written by Lambert Zuidervaart and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-10 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Truth is in trouble. In response, this book presents a new conception of truth. It recognizes that prominent philosophers have questioned whether the idea of truth is important. Some have asked why we even need it. Their questions reinforce broader trends in Western society, where many wonder whether or why we should pursue truth. Indeed, some pundits say we have become a "post-truth" society. Yet there are good reasons not to embrace the cultural Zeitgeist or go with the philosophical flow, reasons to regard truth as a substantive and socially significant idea. This book explains why. First it argues that propositional truth is only one kind of truth—an important kind, but not all important. Then it shows how propositional truth belongs to the more comprehensive process of truth as a whole. This process is a dynamic correlation between human fidelity to societal principles and a life-giving disclosure of society. The correlation comes to expression in distinct social domains of truth, where either propositional or nonpropositional truth is primary. The final chapters lay out five such domains: science, politics, art, religion, and philosophy. Anyone who cares about the future of truth in society will want to read this pathbreaking book.

Book The Truth About the Tribulation

Download or read book The Truth About the Tribulation written by James Lewis and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2020-10-28 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since I was in high school in the early sixties, I heard that the tribulation could come at any time. I was told nothing more needed to happen before the church was raptured. I was told there was no mention of Christians after the third chapter of Revelation. But I thought to myself, if nothing is left, why we haven't we been raptured? About ten years ago, I started serious research on the subject. I found the answers were not as I was taught during my high school years. The more I studied, the more truth I found. I decided to put what I learned into a book to teach others the real truth about the tribulation. They say what you don't know can't hurt you. I found out that's a lie. There are things you need to know before the tribulation starts.

Download or read book Seeking Truth written by Elgin L. Hushbeck, Jr and published by Energion Publications. This book was released on 2022-04-26 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in a world that is not governed by Truth. Disagreements surround us. Recent Presidential elections are hotly contested and won by the narrowest of margins. Charges of misinformation, fake news, and bias abound. Everyone claims they are correct; they have the Truth. Seeking Truth looks at both the philosophical and practical issues of Truth to understand how we come to know what we know and why we disagree so much. More importantly, it lays out how we can disagree in ways that avoid division and polarization and instead move to build a consensus on the Truth. Seeking Truth addresses things like how to think about what you believe, how to handle disagreement and errors positively, how do you know if you are open-minded, and how to make better decisions. Seeking Truth uses a lot of examples to make this case. To avoid current disputes, most are drawn from history, as people in various times and settings sought to understand how nature works, what happened in a particular event, or what is the best way to proceed or govern ourselves. Science, history, politics, business, all of these areas involve Truth in one way or another. Seeking Truth will help you become a better thinker, a more critical thinker, and one who moves closer to the Truth.

Book The Perfect Way

Download or read book The Perfect Way written by Osho and published by Osho International. This book was released on 2017-12-12 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book you hold in your hand or you are just ordering from an online store is a unique book. It is the first book by the contemporary mystic Osho. At the beginning of his public life, Osho who is at that time a professor of philosophy at Jabalpur University, introduces people to a new and unique understanding of meditation during experiential meditation camps. He speaks to the participants and responds to questions. This book is the first published records of Osho's first meditation camp in Rajastan, India. In fifteen small chapters he gives a condensed presentation of his understanding of meditation which he then elaborates in many more talks and publications - but the essential message is already available in this book. Osho speaks to the individual, not to a collective, not the abstract collective of humanity, or a collective defined by religion or nationality or race but to individuals as the core element of existence. We used one of his opening comments as a longer quote on the front cover of the book as it seem so important "The individual is the unit of the whole and it is through him that both evolution and revolution can take place. You are that unit." Osho, mentions this book on several occasions in his later talks. When the second prime minister of India traveled to Russia, a copy of The Perfect Way was with him. And when someone in contact with Osho at the age of ninety stumbled upon The Perfect Way, he commented, “All my learning of the scriptures was futile, only this small book is enough.” In The Perfect Way the reader meets a human being who knows, but who also knows how to convey what he knows. His genius in full flight, he points us as far as one can with words toward the inner world of the self, toward the zone of silence. What starts on a hot summer day in the early 1960’s will prove to be the first seed of a revolutionary experiment in the flowering of human consciousness – one which will eventually transform the lives of millions of people all over the world. “To be without thoughts is meditation,” Osho says. “When there are no thoughts, it is then we come to know the one hidden by our thoughts. When there are no clouds, the blue sky is revealed.” This book is page after page of blue sky.
