Book Working Mums

Download or read book Working Mums written by Danielle Ross Walls and published by . This book was released on 2020-05-05 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Working Mums: Stories by mums on how they manage children, work and life is a collection of empowering stories that will make working mums everywhere laugh in sympathy and nod in recognition. The stories are from Australian mums doing a range of work in addition to raising their children, including working full-time, part-time or freelance, studying, or running their own businesses. The stories are different yet in many ways universal - not unlike the journey of parenting itself. The book's primary aim is to help working mums feel less alone in their challenges. In fact, as the stories show, sometimes it is those very challenges that lead to unexpectedly amazing opportunities for personal and professional growth. Contributors include: - Missy Higgins, singer-songwriter, musician, actor and activist - Alisa Camplin, former world champion aerial skier and Olympic gold medallist - George McEncroe, founder of Australia's first all-female rideshare service Shebah - Annie Nolan (Uncanny Annie), equality activist and social commentator - Chloe Chant, early childhood educator whose letter to a senator went viral - Kristy Vallely, founder of The Imperfect Mum online community - Simone McLaughlin, founder of Jobs Shared - Carly Naughton & Alee Fogarty, marriage equality advocates, blogger and tattoo artist and many more, from fields including health, academia, beauty, politics and small business. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 'Real mums sharing very real stories - warts and all - about the career upheaval becoming a mum often brings. If you are a working mum or about to become one, this is your go-to book!' - Debbie Hatswell, founder of Story Mama and Board Member, Children's Book Council of Australia If there's one conversation we need to be having more, it's the one about the complexities of being a working mother in Australia right now...There has to be a way to make it work and I really believe that sharing stories like these will help get us there.' - Lucy Kippist, Parenting Editor, Kidspot.com.au 'My journey's been about loving what I do, having a purpose and feeling that I'm making a difference. The stories in Working Mums truly echo that sentiment.' - Carolyn Creswell - Mum of four, Founder of international business Carman's Kitchen and Telstra Australian Business Woman of the Year

This book was released on 2017-04-18 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stop feeling like sh*t for being a mom—laugh-out-loud affirmations for every parent Guess what? This “parenting book” is not designed to make new parents feel bad. Authors and co-hosts of the popular comedy podcast One Bad Mother, Biz Ellis and Theresa Thorn, know firsthand that raising kids is tough. They also know that, most likely, parents are winning more than they’re failing. This book reminds parents that it’s okay to have a low bar. Celebrate what did happen, not what didn’t, including gems such as: Did you get up this morning? Great! You’re doing an awesome job! Your kid fell asleep? Even if it was just for two hours, that’s amazing. Good job! Has your kid eaten? That’s probably your doing, so yeah, you’re a winner! The perfect gift for the growing family, You Are Doing a Great Job! is the much-needed reminder to screw all expectations and advice. It belongs on the shelf next to Go the Fu*k to Sleep and Let’s Panic About Babies. Or better yet, tear out the pages and hang them up.

Drawing on lessons from her own incredible journey--together with insight from conversations with thousands of other women--Rachel encourages moms to break cycles, take off masks, and prevent fear from taking control. Rachel reminds you there is always a reason to hope, to move forward, and to dare the impossible. You can make changes. You can pursue dreams, find yourself, and live a life of deep happiness and boundless joy. Stop waiting for "someday." Take hold of the moment, and say yes to your dreams.

Book I Know How She Does It

Download or read book I Know How She Does It written by Laura Vanderkam and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2017-01-03 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyone has an opinion, anecdote, or horror story about women and work. Now the acclaimed author of What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast shows how real working women with families are actually making the most of their time. “Having it all” has become the subject of countless books, articles, debates, and social media commentary, with passions running high in all directions. Many now believe this to be gospel truth: Any woman who wants to advance in a challenging career has to make huge sacrifices. She’s unlikely to have a happy marriage, quality time with her kids (assuming she can have kids at all), a social life, hobbies, or even a decent night’s sleep. But what if balancing work and family is actually not as hard as it’s made out to be? What if all those tragic anecdotes ignore the women who quietly but consistently do just fine with the juggle? Instead of relying on scattered stories, time management expert Laura Vanderkam set out to add hard data to the debate. She collected hour-by-hour time logs from 1,001 days in the lives of women who make at least $100,000 a year. And she found some surprising patterns in how these women spend the 168 hours that every one of us has each week. Overall, these women worked less and slept more than they assumed they did before they started tracking their time. They went jogging or to the gym, played with their children, scheduled date nights with their significant others, and had lunches with friends. They made time for the things that gave them pleasure and meaning, fitting the pieces together like tiles in a mosaic—without adhering to overly rigid schedules that would eliminate flexibility and spontaneity. Vanderkam shares specific strategies that her subjects use to make time for the things that really matter to them. For instance, they . . . * Work split shifts (such as seven hours at work, four off, then another two at night from home). This allows them to see their kids without falling behind professionally. * Get creative about what counts as quality family time. Breakfasts together and morning story time count as much as daily family dinners, and they’re often easier to manage. * Take it easy on the housework. You can free up a lot of time by embracing the philosophy of “good enough” and getting help from other members of your household (or a cleaning service). * Guard their leisure time. Full weekend getaways may be rare, but many satisfying hobbies can be done in small bursts of time. An hour of crafting feels better than an hour of reality TV. With examples from hundreds of real women, Vanderkam proves that you don’t have to give up on the things you really want. I Know How She Does It will inspire you to build a life that works, one hour at a time.

Book The Third Floor Movie Mystery

Download or read book The Third Floor Movie Mystery written by Daniel McTeigue and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2014-08-19 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When my band Third Floor broke up in December of 1989 I got into renting movies on the weekend. I had gone about 3 years not watching any movies because I was so busy with music. VCRs were new and renting movies was the new thing. I started hearing the phrase Third Floor in a lot of movies. I thought I may have been losing my mind so I started a list of the movies where I heard Third Floor in them. I also counted movies where there were scenes that the director did a close up of a door with a 300 series number because I figured that most 300 series rooms are on the Third Floor. My list grew and grew. Twentythree years later with me seemingly unable to get a full time job I dug out the old lists and found out that I had about 90 movies. So I decided it was book worthy. While writing the book the movie total grew to 115 movies. There is some sort of conspiracy going on here but I dont know what it is. The whole first half of the book is talking about how I always dreamed of being a drummer in a band and I tell my life story of what it was like to bring a dream to fruition and how I co-formed the band Third Floor and then I transition into the movie topic. If youre a person who loves movies, youve got to get this book.
