Book Texas Lawman Will Justice

Download or read book Texas Lawman Will Justice written by Mike Hundley and published by . This book was released on 2017-03-16 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Young Texan Will Justice had a good life. Good until the day he rode home to see four men spurring their horses away from his ranch house. After burying his beautiful young wife, he burned the cabin and rode off into a year of seeking his well-deserved revenge. At a small barn in the Texas hills on a ghostly morning of evil, he finally got even. It was only then the anguish of his grief and the memory of his dead mother began to demand of his conscience that he rejoin the company of good men. The ghosts of his sated revenge rode with him, and his grief and guilt led him to pick up the badges of two ambushed U. S. Marshals from the dirt. The inevitable fated meeting with Old Judge Adkins set his life as a cold blooded murderer onto a new path. With Justice's many confessions and sworn oath to right his past, "The Judge" decided not to hang him for the murders and pinned a silver star on his chest. The young marshal's need to find his own salvation led him deep into Texas doing rightful things for the people. His legend as a lawman and gunfighter grew while he devastated ranks of outlaws on long dark trails as he shot or brought them to be hung by the judge. He offered no second chances. Years later as he rode to capture a killer, Rawd Brawley, his long history with Divine Intervention led him. He was pulled to the shores of the Bright River. Images in his mind of the devastated auburn-haired young woman he found there drove him against his own will to break his sworn oath with Judge Adkins. He rode back into the arms of the devil and returned onto a long trail of revenge as he moved his beloved badge from his chest into his pocket. His fight against bad men turned into a long running battle against the bad menace that still lived deep within him. Images of his dead wife, his violated mother and the woman at the river became one. They were all young, all beautiful and all destroyed by actions of bad men. The visions drove him to fight at all costs against all bad men and the demons living inside his heart. The killer's trail led him into a vengeful chase of Rawd Brawley across Texas and deep into Mexico. As he crossed the border, he threw his badge into the dirt and followed a cold trail of Brawley and his killers. He pledged to the women to kill as many of the bad men as he could before he would be killed himself. The end comes as he stands alone in a village square, facing three killers. No one, not even the fastest gunman in Texas, expected what happened next in the humble town of Rosa Rios.Texas Lawman, Will Justice-Marshal is an action packed Western full of gunfight scenes and the struggles of a good man who relives the wrongs that he suffered in his life every day. The good in him fights against the evil across every page until the end of his long journey. Colorful descriptive scenes of fights, courage and death fill the pages as the characters leave the landscape strewn with dead bodies, action and blood until the last page. Mike Hundley promises readers a realistically frightening trip back into the dangerous Old West in this action packed Western thriller written in his original but old style.

Book Country Cop

  • Author : Barry Goodson

Download or read book Country Cop written by Barry Goodson and published by University of North Texas Press. This book was released on 2020-05-15 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The deputy sheriff or sheriff of a county often is perceived as the lone officer protecting the citizens of a small town. Country Cop is the riveting story of one such deputy sheriff, Barry Goodson, and his experiences with the Parker County Sheriff’s office in the 1990s and early 2000s in North Texas. Goodson was required to answer any call for service within an area roughly the size of Rhode Island (just under 1000 square miles), where a backup officer could be many miles away, and so he often patrolled and handled calls alone in a county renowned for being a haven for drug manufacturers and dealers. Goodson puts the reader in his patrol car to vicariously share what it is like to be in county law enforcement. He reveals his officer’s skills, which include the ability to identify an offender immediately, to assess that offender’s immediate intent (apparent or not), and to decide on proper action before the offender can unleash his or her attack on that deputy or against the originally intended victim. More often than not, he employed “verbal judo” to de-escalate a situation instead of drawing his gun. Calls from dispatch ranged from a simple need to clear livestock from the highways to shots fired or a 150 mph high-speed auto chase of drug dealers. More often, drug dealer attacks erupted during a perceived normal traffic stop with the offender suddenly producing a weapon, forcing Goodson to use force to subdue the individual. During one domestic violence call Goodson and another officer forced entry to stop a violent father from extreme violence against his wife and two teenage sons, but then Goodson had to intercept the wife as she lunged forward with a pair of long scissors in an attempt to stab the other officer in the back. Country Cop gives the inside story of county law enforcement and will prove a valuable resource for those in criminal justice, those who aspire to a career in law enforcement, and to all who enjoy a good police story.

Download or read book Lone Star Justice written by Robert M. Utley and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In the annals of law enforcement few groups or agencies have become as encrusted with legend as the Texas Rangers. The always-readable historian Robert Utley has done a thorough job of chipping away these encrustations and revealing the Ranger's rather rag-and-bone, catch-as-catch-can beginning in a time when the Texas frontier was very far from being stable or safe. A fine book."--Larry McMurtry, author of Lonesome Dove From The Lone Ranger to Lonesome Dove, the Texas Rangers have been celebrated in fact and fiction for their daring exploits in bringing justice to the Old West. In Lone Star Justice, best-selling author Robert M. Utley captures the first hundred years of Ranger history, in a narrative packed with adventures worthy of Zane Grey or Larry McMurtry. The Rangers began in the 1820s as loose groups of citizen soldiers, banding together to chase Indians and Mexicans on the raw Texas frontier. Utley shows how, under the leadership of men like Jack Hays and Ben McCulloch, these fiercely independent fighters were transformed into a well-trained, cohesive team. Armed with a revolutionary new weapon, Samuel Colt's repeating revolver, they became a deadly fighting force, whether battling Comanches on the plains or storming the city of Monterey in the Mexican-American War. As the Rangers evolved from part-time warriors to full-time lawmen by 1874, they learned to face new dangers, including homicidal feuds, labor strikes, and vigilantes turned mobs. They battled train robbers, cattle thieves and other outlaws--it was Rangers, for example, who captured John Wesley Hardin, the most feared gunman in the West. Based on exhaustive research in Texas archives, this is the most authoritative history of the Texas Rangers in over half a century. It will stand alongside other classics of Western history by Robert M. Utley--a vivid portrait of the Old West and of the legendary men who kept the law on the lawless frontier. "A rip-snortin', six-guns-blazin' saga of good guys and bad guys who were sometimes one and the same. By taking on the Texas Rangers, Utley, an accomplished and well-regarded historian of the American West, risks treading on ground that is both hallowed and thoroughly documented. He skirts those issues by turning in a balanced history.... An accessible survey of some interesting--and bloody--times."--Kirkus Reviews

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hailed as "a rip-snortin', six-guns-blazin' saga of good guys and bad guys who were sometimes one and the same," Robert M. Utley's Lone Star Justice captured the colorful first century of Texas Ranger history. Now, in the eagerly anticipated conclusion, Lone Star Lawmen, Utley once again chronicles the daring exploits of the Rangers, this time as they bring justice to the twentieth-century West. Based on unprecedented access to Ranger archives, this fast-paced narrative stretches from the days of the Mexican Revolution (where atrocities against Mexican Americans marked the nadir of Ranger history) to the Branch Davidian saga near Waco and the recent bloody standoff with "Republic of Texas" militia. Readers will find in these pages one hundred years of high adventure. Utley follows the Rangers as they pursue bank robbers, bootleggers, moonshiners, and "horsebackers" (smugglers who used mule trains to bring liquor across the border). We see these fearless lawmen taming oil boomtowns, springing the ambush of Bonnie and Clyde, facing down angry lynch mobs, and tracking the "Phantom Killer" of Texarkana. Utley also highlights the gradual evolution of this celebrated force, revealing that while West Texas Rangers still occasionally ride the range on horseback and crack down on smugglers and rustlers, East Texas Rangers--who work mostly in big cities--now ride in high-powered cars and contend with kidnappers, forgers, and other urban criminals. But East or West, today's Rangers have become sophisticated professionals, backed by crime labs and forensic science. Written by one of the most respected Western historians alive, here is the definitive account of the Texas Rangers, a vivid portrait of these legendary peace officers and their role in a changing West.
