Book Enhancing Arizona Department of Transportation s Traffic Data Resource

Download or read book Enhancing Arizona Department of Transportation s Traffic Data Resource written by James Sterling and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) undertook a review and evaluation of the technologies used by the agency to process, store, manage, and disseminate traffic data. Traffic count information constitutes the most elemental data that ADOT uses for planning, analysis and monitoring, and yet often remains the least accessible within the agency. ADOT found that different functional departments often duplicated traffic counts, count information was often little understood, and hence not trusted, and consistent data were not accessible throughout ADOT -- there was not a single source where traffic data were collected and disseminated. Through the research ADOT identified a hierarchy of actions designed to more effectively manage this most basic resource, and to restore confidence among users. An implementation plan was developed and is now being acted upon within the department.

Book Traffic Engineering Handbook

Download or read book Traffic Engineering Handbook written by ITE (Institute of Transportation Engineers) and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-01-26 with total page 688 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Get a complete look into modern traffic engineering solutions Traffic Engineering Handbook, Seventh Edition is a newly revised text that builds upon the reputation as the go-to source of essential traffic engineering solutions that this book has maintained for the past 70 years. The updated content reflects changes in key industry standards, and shines a spotlight on the needs of all users, the design of context-sensitive roadways, and the development of more sustainable transportation solutions. Additionally, this resource features a new organizational structure that promotes a more functionally-driven, multimodal approach to planning, designing, and implementing transportation solutions. A branch of civil engineering, traffic engineering concerns the safe and efficient movement of people and goods along roadways. Traffic flow, road geometry, sidewalks, crosswalks, cycle facilities, shared lane markings, traffic signs, traffic lights, and more—all of these elements must be considered when designing public and private sector transportation solutions. Explore the fundamental concepts of traffic engineering as they relate to operation, design, and management Access updated content that reflects changes in key industry-leading resources, such as the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), AASSHTO Policy on Geometric Design, Highway Safety Manual (HSM), and Americans with Disabilities Act Understand the current state of the traffic engineering field Leverage revised information that homes in on the key topics most relevant to traffic engineering in today's world, such as context-sensitive roadways and sustainable transportation solutions Traffic Engineering Handbook, Seventh Edition is an essential text for public and private sector transportation practitioners, transportation decision makers, public officials, and even upper-level undergraduate and graduate students who are studying transportation engineering.

Book Texas Travel Forecasting Annotated Bibliography

Download or read book Texas Travel Forecasting Annotated Bibliography written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This bibliography is part of an on-going research project between the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The bibliography has attempted to include all significant reports prepared by the Institute in support of urban transportation travel demand modeling and forecasting practice in Texas. An annotation is provided for those reports which still may be of interest to practitioners. Several reports which are now obsolete due to improvements in computer technology are included for completeness and historical interest. In addition several reports prepared by TxDOT which bear directly on travel demand modeling practice are included. The Department reports are not complete and users of this bibliography are requested to provide the Institute with copies of Department reports not presently included so that they may be included in future revisions. The bibliography is organized into six sections: trip generation, trip distribution, traffic assignment, travel surveys, air quality analysis, and overview. Reports are placed in each section according to the phase of modeling covered by the report. However, since the modeling phases are interdependent, most reports will cover aspects of more than one phase. Reports which clearly cover more than one modeling phase are placed in the overview section.

Book The State of the practice in Forecasting Turning Flows

Download or read book The State of the practice in Forecasting Turning Flows written by Janis L. Piper and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this project was to develop a better understanding of the process of forecasting turning flows. Review of the literature provided information about the state of the research in the area of turning flow forecasts and provided information about the models available for use in making turning flow forecasts. A telephone survey was performed to obtain information about the state of the practice in forecasting turning flows in the United States. Turning flow proportions were analyzed to show a coorelation between turning flow proportion and functional classification, and in doing so, average turning flow proportions were developed.
