Book excerpt: Unknowingly to me, the writing of this book commenced decades ago while traveling my thirty-five state territories as a tractor trailer driver. Listening to volumes of the Bible on cassette tapes, I often felt compelled to pull over and write on various issues as they occurred to me. Across the years, I improved, but not until I became a serious reader did I develop my present style through the influence of various prolific authors: GK Chesterton, C. S. Lewis, John MacArthur, and others. This book is a collection of theological essays, poetry, and short stories, some of which are true stories of my road trips and life experiences. In a backsliding state, however, some old bad habits revisited, landing me in prison. As I entered my first jail cell, it was vacant except for a beautiful leather-bound NKJ version of the Bible and a copy of a Strong's Concise Concordance of the Bible still sealed in cellophane wrap. That, my friends, I needn't say but I will anyway is an unheard of incident in 10 million vacant jail cells. So now I had just what I would need to polish my previous work, the time, pardon the pun, and the equipment. For my familiarity with the Bible was exhaustive, but only on tape so the concordance was what I would need to find my way around. This was to me a sign from God clearer than words. In addition to reading and writing, I lead Bible study in county jail, and eventually in state prison I shared my work from the pulpit at our chapel. It was then that I felt lead to compose this book; however, it was the Holy Spirit's help and energy who made it happen. I pray that it produces the ends to which it is sent multiplying the faithful among men in Christ Jesus. Remember to pray for the men and women who have lost their way.

Book Bind the Testimony To Acknowledge God Outright

This book was released on 2015-06-15 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine sitting in a circle of fifteen men, men dressed in sky blue shirts and navy blue pants that have “CDCR Prisoner” stamped in bold yellow letters down one leg, men of varying ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds, men whose crimes include burglary, kidnapping, and murder. In my wildest imagination, I could not have pictured myself as part of that scene, and yet I have been sitting in such a circle at San Quentin State Prison, facilitating the Christian Creative Writing Class, for over two years, loving every moment and marveling at the men’s intensity. On a particular Friday morning in September of 2013, the men and I prayed in and began the work of our class. After commenting on a piece of writing one of the students had shared, our conversation turned to a discussion of ways we could glorify God through our writing. James piped up: “I think we should each write a testimony of how we came to Christ and put them all together in a book!” The fifteen men in the circle looked at one another and at me and grinned. And that was the genesis of "Bind the Testimony". - Kathleen Jackson

Book excerpt: Journey out of Lodebar: Testimony of a Prisoner's Wife is based on the true-life story of Robert and Glenda Simmons, a couple residing on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Almost nearing retirement, Robert was implicated in a bribery scheme with the commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Corrections and was sentenced to prison at sixty-one years of age. This unexpected legal trouble occurring so late in life for the couple found Glenda regrettably unprepared emotionally and financially. She was completely falling apart. Glenda was at a place in her life in which she knew that the only way she would survive this upheaval in her happy, comfortable home and lifestyle was with God's help and strength. So Glenda went into survival mode, and throughout this book, she tells us about her plight, her innermost thoughts, disappointments and victories, and how she found strength through prayer, Bible verses, and gospel songs. In the process of developing a closer relationship with God, Glenda was inspired to write this book to celebrate the goodness of God in her life. We also learn that life had not always been peaches and cream for the happy couple. There had been a terrible storm in their marriage over twenty-five years prior to their prison predicament, and Glenda had not fully recovered from that storm. The book has a surprise ending because God is always full of surprises!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the true story of a young boy who grew up with a deep desire for love and acceptance. Instead he was harshly abused and mistreated by his alcoholic preacher father and older brother. He grew into a violent man whose life consisted of fights, and scrapes with law enforcement. He learned to run when things got really tough. Often, he sought the will of God for his life, rising from being a victim to an overcomer several times, however drugs and alcohol always pulled him back down. He had a beautiful wife and children that he loved dearly, but when things got tough, he'd walk away into the ready arms of alcohol and other women. This would be his undoing. Finally, one day in 1984, a shootout left a man dead and him in the county jail on a murder charge. Thinking his life was over, he attempted to end his life, but two ministers of God felt led to pray with him, thus preventing his death. Finally, in an honest attempt to be set free from his guilt and pain, he cried out to God, and God saved him and set him free. He found that God was not finished with him and discovered his life had just begun. This story is a must read for evangelical use or prison ministry, for it points those who are going astray including those already in jails or prisons to the cross of Calvary and to a loving, forgiving Savior who will set them free too. Jimmy Windham has been in a maximum-security prison in the South Carolina prison system for over 34 years. Though his life and testimony have won many men to Christ; he still requests prayers for the strength of Christ in his everyday life. Bro. Jimmy is still in prison, but by God's anointing on his life, he is standing in faith and still testifying of God's delivering power over sin and brokenness.

Book excerpt: The Bible is full of testimonies whose sole purpose is to guide its readers to put faith in Jesus. In this book, I have collected a number of testimonies from ex-offenders and current prisoners. These testimonies about Christ bear an important purpose: to establish Jesus as the Messiah, lead people to repentance, and guide individuals towards a saving faith in Him. It doesn't matter how many sins you have committed. These testimonies are here to teach you to reach out to Christ and choose salvation. The Lord is calling you away from sin and towards His righteousness. You need only to stop and listen. It doesn't matter if you are in prison, on the streets, or anywhere else. You too can stop and hear His calling. This book contains the testimonies, the personal life stories, of men whose lives have been changed by the work of Christ in their hearts. My testimony (and those of many others) about Christ carries with it an important purpose. Its purpose is to provide you with evidence that Jesus is the Savior who changes men's lives. I will share Jesus' message of salvation which leads men to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ (Acts 20:21) who alone can save, giving men eternal life. Reading these testimonies will elicit a response. See yourself in these stories and understand that these men are saved. Your sins can be blotted away just like theirs. You too can have your name placed in the Book of Life.

Book The Man That Got Thrown Out Of Jail

Download or read book The Man That Got Thrown Out Of Jail written by Irving Risch and published by Irving Risch. This book was released on with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This might sound like a strange title for a book, but as you will see it fits. It was back in 1979 that I had a life-changing event that took place right after I turned 41, but before I tell you what happen I just want to say this, that God gave me a gift. At the time, I didn't have any idea on how to use this gift because this was something new to me and I didn't even know that I had this gift. Are you confused yet? Maybe This will help. When the Lord ascended it is said that he gave gifts to the church. Gifts like apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds, and teachers. The reason he gave all these gifts was for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ, His church. The Lord made sure that after he left this world he was going to equip men with all these gifts to help in the ministry of His church, (He called it his body). You see that is what the true church is, it is the hand of God reaching down to mankind here on earth. It is an extension of Christ work with the human race. Now getting back to the gift He gave me, He gave me the gift of evangelism. Maybe you are asking how do I know he gave me this gift. Well, He put it in my heart to want to reach out to those who are leading a life like I did before my conversion. I want to evangelize those who are locked up behind bars. The undesirables of the world; those that are locked up and kept apart from what we call the free society. A few years ago I started a jail ministry and everything was going great. It was as if the Lord had lit a fire under me and I was going to the jail three times a week and also doing one on one's with some of the inmates. But deep down I felt that something was wrong. The Jail administrator seemed to be real cold toward me and I heard her make comments like, "if I had it my way, these inmates wouldn't have any activities like this." While I was there she took some of the privileges away for the inmates. Things like coffee during the meeting. I know for a fact, that some of them would come out just because they could get a cup of coffee. It was a way of getting some inmates to hear what God wanted to say to them through His Word, the Bible. So when this privilege was taken away the numbers dropped. It was as if the devil was trying to prevent God's Word from being heard. She seemed to be watching me like a hawk, just waiting for me to slip up, and I did. To me, it was just a small thing but she made a big deal about it. What I did was to say something to one of the inmates about one of the jailers. I live in a very small town of 2500 people and most people knew one another. One day I was doing a one on one with one of the female inmates when I found out she was the step-daughter to one of my neighbors, and the house on the other side of my house belonged to one of the jailers. In the midst of the conversation, I made the comment that three of us were all neighbors. Apparently there was a rule that I was not to do this, and this is what she was waiting for. Because of this, I was thrown out of the jail, and that is where I came up with the title of this book. When this happen some of the inmates were asking if I could come back, I really felt excepted by them, and to be real honest, I really had a heart for those that were locked up. There was a real connection. I was there to help them, and they came to know this. Now I didn't leave them cold turkey. I had a younger man going to the jail with me to help, and when I left, he took over for me. And by the way, he is still there and doing a great job. D. L. Moody inspired me to write this book even though he is dead. I read something that gave me the idea to put these stories together. In the following pages, you will find some stories about lives that were changed by coming in contact with God through an evangelist that was sent to them by God Himself. And I truly believe that God is sending his workers out into the field for the harvest is ripe and ready. My hope is that this book will change lives by bringing some to the saving grace of God. God is in the business of saving lives saving marriages saving families; He is in the saving business. I know this because he saved me, saved my marriage, and has save many in my family.
