Book Test Results of Rail Top Plastic Trays as a Means of Programmed Water Braking for Monorail Rocket Sleds

Download or read book Test Results of Rail Top Plastic Trays as a Means of Programmed Water Braking for Monorail Rocket Sleds written by John E. Krauss and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests were conducted to determine the feasibility and practicability of using water-filled frangible rail-top trays to brake monorail track vehicles. This braking technique has been tested at entrance velocities of up to approximately fifteen hundred feet per second with predictable and effective results.

Book Evaluation of an Extendible Aerodynamic Drag Brake for Monorail Rocket Sleds

Download or read book Evaluation of an Extendible Aerodynamic Drag Brake for Monorail Rocket Sleds written by Daniel J. Krupovage and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Velocity versus coast distance measurements on one monorail rocket sled were conducted to obtain quantitative information on the braking effectiveness of an extendible aerodynamic drag brake. The data were obtained by means of ribbon frame cameras and reduced to the form of drag coefficients for the rocket sled and aerodynamic drag brake. The drag brake as described has a drag coefficient of approximately 1.68 in the subsonic regime and approximately 1.8 in the supersonic regime. (Author).

Book Effectiveness of Nylon Drag Straps for Braking Monorail Sleds

Download or read book Effectiveness of Nylon Drag Straps for Braking Monorail Sleds written by Daniel J. Krupovage and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Velocity versus coast distance measurements on two monorail rocket sleds were conducted on the Holloman track to obtain numerical information on the braking effectiveness of nylon drag straps. The data were obtained from ribbon frame camera readings and reduced to the form of drag area of the sleds and the drag straps. The straps as described are shown to increase the effective drag area of the monorail sleds used by approximately one square foot and to be an effective means for reducing recovery distance in the speed range below approximately 700 ft/sec. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is as a detailed, but highly readable and balanced account of the history of animal space flights carried out by all nations, but principally the United States and the Soviet Union. It explores the ways in which animal high-altitude and space flight research impacted on space flight biomedicine and technology, and how the results - both successful and disappointing - allowed human beings to then undertake that same hazardous journey with far greater understanding and confidence. This complete and authoritative book will undoubtedly become the ultimate authority on animal space flights.
