Book Measurements of Hadronic Decays of Z Bosons

Download or read book Measurements of Hadronic Decays of Z Bosons written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Z° bosons have been produced by collisions of longitudinally polarized electrons with unpolarized positrons at the SLAC Linear Collider and their decays have been recorded by the SLD experiment. We present preliminary measurements of the properties of the resulting Z° decays into multi-hadronic final states. We find good agreement with the predictions of perturbative QCD and fragmentation models.

This book was released on 1992 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1992 the SLD experiment at SLAC collected over 11,000 hadronic decay events of Z[sup 0] bosons produced in collisions of polarised electrons with unpolarised positrons delivered by the SLC. Preliminary experimental results are presented on tests of the value of the gluon spin involving events containing three hadronic jets measured in the final state. A leading order QCD prediction is found to be in agreement with the data, whilst a model including scalar gluons is clearly excluded. Effects of the electron beam polarisation upon the orientation of the three-jet event plane are discussed.

Book Measurement of the Z boson Branching Fraction Into Hadrons Containing Bottom Quarks

Download or read book Measurement of the Z boson Branching Fraction Into Hadrons Containing Bottom Quarks written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We use the Mark II detector to study Z decays into bottom quark-anti-quark pairs, leading to the production of bottom hadrons. The Z bosons are formed in ee− annihilation at the SLC at center-of-mass energies between 89 and 93 GeV. We identify events containing semileptonic decays of bottom hadrons by detecting isolated leptons, i.e leptons with high transverse momenta relative to the nearest hadronic jet. Using isolated electrons and muons, we measure the B-hadron semileptonic branching ratio times the fraction of hadronic Z decays which contain bottom hadrons, B(B 2!Xl[nu]){center dot}[Gamma](Z 2!b{bar b})/[Gamma](Z 2!had) = 0.025 {sub -0.009}{sup +0.100} {plus minus} 0.005, where we have listed the statistical errors followed by the systematic error. Assuming B(B 2!X(ell)[nu]) = 11% {plus minus} 1%, we measure [Gamma](Z 2!b{bar b})/[Gamma](Z 2!had) = 0.23 {sub -0.09}{sup +0.11}, in good agreement with the standard-model prediction of 0.22. We find [Gamma](Z 2!b{bar b}) = 0.40 {sub -0.16}{sup +0.19} GeV. 83 refs., 34 figs., 19 tabs.

Book Strange Particle Production in Hadronic Z Decays

Download or read book Strange Particle Production in Hadronic Z Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study has been made of neutral strange baryons and pseudoscalar mesons produced in hadronic decays of the weak gauge boson V. The experiment was performed at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, which has the unique capability of colliding highly polarized electrons with unpolarized positrons. Overall production rates and spectra of the K° and the [Lambda]° (+[Lambda]°) were measured and compared with other experiments as well as with Quantum Chromodynamics calculations. The combination of the small, stable beam spots produced by the SLAC Linear Collider (SLC) and the precision vertexing capabilities of the SLC Large Detector (SLD) permitted the separation of the hadronic events into three quark flavor-enriched samples. An unfolding was performed to obtain flavor-pure samples, and for the first time measurements were made of K° and [Lambda]° (+[Lambda]°) production rates and spectra in uds, c, and b quark events at the Z° pole. This measurement revealed significant production differences. Utilizing the large quark production asymmetry due to the polarized electron beam, high-purity quark and antiquark jet samples were obtained. The first measurement of production differences of the [Lambda]° baryon in quark and antiquark jets was performed, which provided clear evidence for a leading particle effect at high momenta.

Book Study of Hadronic Final States of Z Boson Decays

Download or read book Study of Hadronic Final States of Z Boson Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have studied hadronic final states produced in the decays of Z bosons using the Mark II detector at SLC. We have measured the distributions of global shape parameters, inclusive charged particle distributions, charge particle multiplicity and jet multiplicity. The results are compared to predictions of QCD-based models optimized at the PEP energy. The data and models agree within the present statistical precision. We have also investigated a new method to determine the QCD scale parameter [Lambda]{sub {ovr MS}} using differential jet multiplicity. 9 refs., 5 figs.

Book Searches for New Particles Produced in Z Boson Decay

Download or read book Searches for New Particles Produced in Z Boson Decay written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Searches for events with new particle topologies in 455 hadronic Z decays with the Mark 2 detector at SLC are presented. 95% confidence level lower limits of 40.7 GeV/c2 for the top quark mass and 42.0 GeV/c2 for the mass of a fourth generation charge - 1/3 quark, regardless of decay mode, are obtained. For a fourth generation sequential Dirac neutrino?4 mass up to 43 GeV/c2. Decays of the Z boson to a pair of non-minimal Higgs bosons (Z → H{sub s}°H{sub p}°), where one of them is relatively light ({approx lt} 10 GeV/c2), are also considered. Limits are obtained on the ZH{sub s}°H{sub p}° coupling as a function of the Higgs boson masses. 11 refs., 2 figs., 2 tabs.
