Download or read book Tessa B Dick written by Tessa B. Dick and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2011 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By the author of Philip K. Dick: Remembering Firebright, this personal memoir tells the life story of a survivor of abuse who also experienced strange and bizarre events that seem to coalesce around a secret government-sponsored experiment in mind control. "The man told me that they were dropping me from the program because I was neither physically nor mentally fit for long-term space travel. I begged him to give me a chance, promising that I would work very hard, but he only looked sad while telling me that it was impossible. He added that I was remembering too much, and that I might tell the secrets to people who shouldn't know about the program. So now I'm telling the secrets." This second edition has an added Epilogue and cover art by Nick Buchanan.

This book was released on 2018-06-20 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blade Runner 2049 shows us a world devastated by war and threatened by a power mad creator of artificial humans. This sequel to the 1982 film Blade Runner suffered from a misguided marketing campaign and contradictions in the plot lines, but it succeeds in showing us the stark beauty of scarred landscapes and deteriorating city streets. Humans live alongside replicants, and they buy virtual friends to combat loneliness. Behind the slick facade of brightly lit animated billboards, many people live in poverty in the future city of Los Angeles, which reflects the state of things today. The story began with a novel by an obscure science fiction author who lived in poverty for most of his life. His dark vision of the future became widely known after Ridley Scott's Blade Runner was released in 1982, but sadly Philip K. Dick died before the film was shown in theatres. His genius is finally recognized, but it is too late for him. Tessa B. Dick began her writing career as a journalist, writing for magazines and newspapers. Her husband Philip K. Dick encouraged her to write fiction after he read her first short story. She worked with him on his later novels, including VALIS and A Scanner Darkly. Since then, Tessa has produced a variety of poems and stories, as well as a murder mystery and several memoirs. Two of her memoirs have been published in Italian translations, and her surrealist novel The Darkening of the Light is currently in the process of translation. Some of her shorter works can be found in the online magazine PKD Otaku, as well as the journal Emanations.

Download or read book What If Our World Is Their Heaven written by Gwen Lee and published by ABRAMS. This book was released on 2002-12-31 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interviews with the genius behind The Man in the High Castle and countless other science fiction classics. In the field of science fiction, Philip K. Dick is unparalleled. His novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? became the classic film Blade Runner. His short story “The Minority Report” was adapted for the screen by Steven Spielberg. The Man in the High Castle has become a hit series on Amazon, and those titles represent only a small fraction of his work. In November 1982, six months before the author’s untimely death, journalist Gwen Lee recorded the first of several in-depth discussions with Philip K. Dick that continued over the course of the next three months. This transcription is a fascinating read for anyone interested in the field of science fiction. “These transcripts bring fresh insights—notably, into the imaginative biotech plot line of the unwritten The Owl in Daylight . . . Dick also discusses music, writing, philosophers and his 1974–1975 mystical visions, when the revelation of his son’s undiagnosed birth defect—‘down to anatomical details’—saved the child’s life . . . Fans will rejoice.” —Publishers Weekly

Book The Exegesis of Philip K Dick

Download or read book The Exegesis of Philip K Dick written by Philip K. Dick and published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. This book was released on 2011-11-07 with total page 1003 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A great and calamitous sequence of arguments with the universe: poignant, terrifying, ludicrous, and brilliant. The Exegesis is the sort of book associated with legends and madmen, but Dick wasn't a legend and he wasn't mad. He lived among us, and was a genius."-Jonathan Lethem Based on thousands of pages of typed and handwritten notes, journal entries, letters, and story sketches, The Exegesis of Philip K. Dick is the magnificent and imaginative final work of an author who dedicated his life to questioning the nature of reality and perception, the malleability of space and time, and the relationship between the human and the divine. Edited and introduced by Pamela Jackson and Jonathan Lethem, this will be the definitive presentation of Dick's brilliant, and epic, final work. In The Exegesis, Dick documents his eight-year attempt to fathom what he called "2-3-74," a postmodern visionary experience of the entire universe "transformed into information." In entries that sometimes ran to hundreds of pages, Dick tried to write his way into the heart of a cosmic mystery that tested his powers of imagination and invention to the limit, adding to, revising, and discarding theory after theory, mixing in dreams and visionary experiences as they occurred, and pulling it all together in three late novels known as the VALIS trilogy. In this abridgment, Jackson and Lethem serve as guides, taking the reader through the Exegesis and establishing connections with moments in Dick's life and work.

A rare, revelatory portrait, "as close as you're ever going to get to the Escher drawing that is Christopher Nolan's remarkable brain" (Sam Mendes). In chapters structured by themes and motifs ("Time"; "Chaos"; "Dreams"), Shone offers an unprecedented intimate view of the director. Shone explores Nolan's thoughts on his influences, his vision, his enigmatic childhood past--and his movies, from plots and emotion to identity and perception, including his latest blockbuster, the action-thriller/spy-fi Tenet ("Big, brashly beautiful, grandiosely enjoyable"--Variety). Filled with the director's never-before-seen photographs, storyboards, and scene sketches, here is Nolan on the evolution of his pictures, and the writers, artists, directors, and thinkers who have inspired and informed his films. "Fabulous: intelligent, illuminating, rigorous, and highly readable. The very model of what a filmmaking study should be. Essential reading for anyone who cares about Nolan or about film for that matter."--Neal Gabler, author of An Empire of Their Own: How the Jews Invented Hollywood and Walt Disney, The Biography
