Book Terminal Guidance Simulator Study Program Vol I Basic Report

Download or read book Terminal Guidance Simulator Study Program Vol I Basic Report written by NORTHROP AIRCRAFT INC HAWTHORNE CA. and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The prpose of the simulation program is to study the feasibility of achieving high accuracy by means of human aid to a missile guidance sys tem during the transitional and terminal phases of flight. The equipment simulates and displays to human operators by means of closed circuit television and appropriate optical devices the view obtained from a nose-mounted, space-sta bilized television camera as the missile ap proaches the target area. The simulator provides the operators with a means of inserting dance commands which can be refined as the resolution increases when the missile approaches the target area. The scene viewed by the operator is pro duced by high resolution transparencies made from aerial photographs of ground terrain. (Author).

Book Terminal Guidance Simulator Study Program Test the Effects of Raster Line Numbers Frame Rates Fields of view Signal to noise Ratios and Transparencies of Representative Terrain on Operator Performance Volume I Simulation Test Data

Download or read book Terminal Guidance Simulator Study Program Test the Effects of Raster Line Numbers Frame Rates Fields of view Signal to noise Ratios and Transparencies of Representative Terrain on Operator Performance Volume I Simulation Test Data written by H. J. Coleman and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work described in this report was designed to explore the effect Raster Line number, Frame Rates, Fields-of-View, Signal to Noise Ratios, and Transparencies of representative terrain, have on operator performance. It is an exploration of the main effects, simple interactions, and higher order interactions of these variables with respect to the operator's performance. The 5 subjects were briefed with regard to the various changes that could be expected in the displayed image with which they would be working. Specific briefing materials for each of the 3 transparencies used consisted of a vertical photograph of the general area containing the target and an enlargement of the area immediately surrounding the target area. The test included: Information Frame Rates of 30, 10, and 3 frames/sec, Raster Lines 729, 243 and 81, Fieldsof-View 15, 10 and 5 sq mi, Signal-to-Noise Ratios of 0, 8, 15 and 20 db. Each subject was exposed to each transparency, each Raster Line number, each Frame Rate, each Signal-to-Noise Ratio, and each Field-of-View an equal number of times. The test results were scored on the basis of miss distance. (Author).

Book Terminal Guidance Simulator Study Program Image Evaluation Volume Ii Results of Experiment

Download or read book Terminal Guidance Simulator Study Program Image Evaluation Volume Ii Results of Experiment written by B. L. Cole and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report consists of two volumes. Volume I covers a discussion on the theory of image formation, and an application is made to television imaging systems. Volume II covers the results of the image evaluation experiment conducted as a part of ONR Contract Nonr364800. The purpose of this report is to provide objective methods of assessing characteristics of optical systems as opposed to the usual subjective approach. The objective characteristics considered were transfer characteristic, the sine wave response, and the signal-to-deviation ratio. However, in the final analysis, any valid objective estimate of image quality will have to pass the test of correlation with subjective impressions in future experiments. As a result of the image evaluation experiment and associated studies conducted under this contract, methods are now available to assess the characteristics of imaging systems prior to design. A common language is provided to describe the performance of elements in an optical system so that the complete system can be designed from the characteristics of the constituent elements. In order to effectively use the techniques developed, the requirements and the environment in which the system is to be used must be well defined. (Author).

Book Terminal Guidance Simulator Study Program Test Repeated Exposure of Operators to Selected Target Areas

Download or read book Terminal Guidance Simulator Study Program Test Repeated Exposure of Operators to Selected Target Areas written by H. J. Coleman and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work described in this report was designed to explore the relationship between repeated operator experience with a terminal guidance simulator and the operator's ability to acquire a target within sixty seconds. The test material consisted of ten photographic transparencies featuring targets of different degrees of difficulty. Each subject worked each transparency eight times, beginning at a different initial point each time. Four specific conclusions were drawn as a result of analyzing the data: (1) There is a learning effect associated with 8 repeated exposures to the same transparency; however, the difference is significant at less than the 5% level; (2) There is a learning effect associated with the increase in the amount of experience of the subjects. This is a learning effect from one test session to another and is significant at better than the 1% level; (3) There does not appear to be a learning effect associated with the interaction of runs and trials. There does not appear to be a difference in the amount of learning during a test session which is a function of the experience level of the subject; and (4) The differences which were noted in the performance of the subjects during the experiment were related to the amount of experience of the subjects and to the relative difficulty of the transparencies. Book Terminal Guidance Simulator Study Program Test Investigation of Factors Affecting Difficulty of Target Acquisition and Identification

Download or read book Terminal Guidance Simulator Study Program Test Investigation of Factors Affecting Difficulty of Target Acquisition and Identification written by H. J. Coleman and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to determine what factors or variables relate to the relative difficulty of the transparencies used in Norair simulation studies. It was assumed that the mean radial miss distance is related to the difficulty of a transparency. It is also assumed that the relative difficulty of a transparency is related to variables thought to be significant in photo-interpretations. This study is then an attempt to relate the relative difficulty of a transparency as measured by the mean radial miss distance of the subjects in Norair Simulation Study and the ratings of ten subjects rating the transparencies in terms of variables used in photo-interpretation.
