Book Temperature Salinity and Sigma t Along the Standard Seal Island Transect

Download or read book Temperature Salinity and Sigma t Along the Standard Seal Island Transect written by Canada. Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Science and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report reviews the spatial and temporal distribution of the historical oceanographic data on Hamilton Bank along the continental shelf portion of the Seal Island-southern tip of Greenland transect. The report presents a brief descriptive analysis of various indices describing the temperature field along the transect, including a discussion of the 1928-94 time series of the cross-sectional area of the cold intermediate layer. Annual time-series of temperature, salinity, and density (sigma-t) are presented for the inshore, mid-shelf, and offshore areas of the transect based on all data available from 1928 to 1994. In addition, there are monthly averaged vertical cross-sections for the period 1928-94 as well as monthly transects by year.

Book Methods of Seawater Analysis

Download or read book Methods of Seawater Analysis written by Klaus Grasshoff and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-07-30 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the book first appeared in 1976, Methods of Seawater Analysis has found widespread acceptance as a reliable and detailed source of information. Its second extended and revised edition published in 1983 reflected the rapid pace of instrumental and methodological evolution in the preceding years. The development has lost nothing of its momentum, and many methods and procedures still suffering their teething troubles then have now matured into dependable tools for the analyst. This is especially evident for trace and ultra-trace analyses of organic and inorganic seawater constituents which have diversified considerably and now require more space for their description than before. Methods to determine volatile halocarbons, dimethyl sulphide, photosynthetic pigments and natural radioactive tracers have been added as well as applications of X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy and various electrochemical methods for trace metal analysis. Another method not previously described deals with the determination of the partial pressure of carbon dioxide as part of standardised procedures to describe the marine CO2 system.

Book Contemporary Issues in Estuarine Physics

Download or read book Contemporary Issues in Estuarine Physics written by Arnoldo Valle-Levinson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-01-28 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Estuaries are of high socioeconomic importance with twenty-two of the thirty-two largest cities in the world located on river estuaries. Estuaries bring together fluxes of fresh and saline water, as well as fluvial and marine sediments, and contain high biological diversity. Increasingly sophisticated field observation technology and numerical modeling have produced significant advances in our understanding of the physical properties of estuaries over the last decade. This book introduces a classification for estuaries before presenting the basic physics and hydrodynamics of estuarine circulation and the various factors that modify it in time and space. It then covers special topics at the forefront of research such as turbulence, fronts in estuaries and continental shelves, low inflow estuaries, and implications of estuarine transport for water quality. Written by leading authorities on estuarine and lagoon hydrodynamics, this volume provides a concise foundation for academic researchers, advanced students and coastal resource managers.

Book Oceanographic Analysis with R

Download or read book Oceanographic Analysis with R written by Dan E. Kelley and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-10-17 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the R software environment as a key tool for oceanographic computations and provides a rationale for using R over the more widely-used tools of the field such as MATLAB. Kelley provides a general introduction to R before introducing the ‘oce’ package. This package greatly simplifies oceanographic analysis by handling the details of discipline-specific file formats, calculations, and plots. Designed for real-world application and developed with open-source protocols, oce supports a broad range of practical work. Generic functions take care of general operations such as subsetting and plotting data, while specialized functions address more specific tasks such as tidal decomposition, hydrographic analysis, and ADCP coordinate transformation. In addition, the package makes it easy to document work, because its functions automatically update processing logs stored within its data objects. Kelley teaches key R functions using classic examples from the history of oceanography, specifically the work of Alfred Redfield, Gordon Riley, J. Tuzo Wilson, and Walter Munk. Acknowledging the pervasive popularity of MATLAB, the book provides advice to users who would like to switch to R. Including a suite of real-life applications and over 100 exercises and solutions, the treatment is ideal for oceanographers, technicians, and students who want to add R to their list of tools for oceanographic analysis.
