Book Telematics Transportation And Spatial Development

Download or read book Telematics Transportation And Spatial Development written by Hans M. Soekkha and published by VSP. This book was released on 1990-12 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of telematics --- an integration of telecommunications and informatics --- is one of the new electronic technologies which merges communication and information processes by using computer networks, and is expanding rapidly. It is expected that developments in this field will have a strong impact on future transportation and locational decisions as well as on the behaviour of companies and individuals. This Proceedings volume contains the papers that were held during the First International Symposium ''Telematics --- Transportation and Spatial Development'', The Hague, 14--15 April 1988. The lectures held covered current and expected developments in telematics and the effects of applications of telematics on the economy, transportation and spatial planning. The main topics discussed were: -- Telematics as a new technology -- Telematics as substitute for physical transport -- Telematics as an optimization of existing transportation techniques and processes -- Telematics as a factor in spatial reorganization

Book Telematics and Transport Behaviour

Download or read book Telematics and Transport Behaviour written by Peter Nijkamp and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major strategy to reduce transport congestion and other social costs of transport is to ensure that travellers make the best decisions, based on real time information. A wide range of technological systems have been developed to provide this information, but little is known about how travellers actually respond to it. This book offers an overview of various transport telematics options and provides an appropriate methodological framework, followed by a presentation of results from actual applications of these telematics systems from a range of European countries in various transport sectors. The empirical results are supplemented by analytical models and geographic information systems representations with a view on generalizing these findings and identifying the key parameters which determine user response.

Book Developments in Telecommunications

Download or read book Developments in Telecommunications written by Edward Mozley Roche and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-17 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published in 1997. Developments in information technology and telecommunications are giving new meaning to the concepts of space and time. In particular the concepts of "local" and "global" are starting to merge together even though they apparently represent entirely different scales. One example is "telework", also known as "telecommuting". Another is the rapid growth of outsourcing. These developments are based on new technologies such as multimedia, rapid improvements in storage technologies, and the information superhighway, including the Internet. The structure of the world's telecommunications industry is changing and, in addition, political and social autonomy is breaking down. The role of the nation state is challenged, as are the old avenues and levers of political power. Nation states have attempted to grab functional control over the emerging infrastructure, but they are ultimately unable to exert control over the flood of information surging around the world. There still remains a strong middle ground between local and global, dominated by multinational corporaions and governments.

Book Modern Transport Telematics

Download or read book Modern Transport Telematics written by Jerzy Mikulski and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-10-14 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Transport Systems Telematics, TST 2011, held in Katowice-Ustron, Poland, in October 2011. The 47 papers included in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in this book. Transport telematics systems are information technologies that are used in the field of transport, including infrastructure, vehicles and users. Intelligent transport systems are advanced applications that are to provide innovative services for the various modes of transport and traffic management. Also they should enable users to be better informed and make safer, more coordinated and smarter use of transport networks. Telematic services integrate telecommunications, electronics and information technology in transport engineering in order to plan, design, operate, maintain and manage transport systems.

Download or read book Transportation for the Future written by David F. Batten and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the seventies and eighties, the industries associated with the transportation of goods and people have been exposed to some profound changes. The quickening pace of technological change - with its growing emphasis on telecommunications, knowledge-handling capacity, and air transportation - is increasing the discrete character of the world economy. Thus the network structure of global development patterns is becoming more important, with metropolitan centres as key nodes and rapid transportation routes as key links. In this evolutionary situation, changes in the preferred mix of transport modes are inevitable. The faster and more direct modes will be favoured, individually and in combination, and there will be an increasing interest in transportation policies and the provision of infrastructure. This volume contains a collection of innovative papers presented at the First International Conference on Transportation for the Future, held in Södertälje, Sweden in July 1988. Twenty industry leaders and prominent scientists from Europe, USA and Japan present their views about the ongoing transformation of production and distribution systems among firms striving for Just-In-Time methods, economies of scope, and a fully integrated approach to their economic activities. The future of passenger travel and infrastructure are also discussed. The resulting book presents a surprisingly consistent picture of how the transportation industries of the industrialized nations may be expected to grow and change in a long-term perspective.
