Book excerpt: Teddy's Button is a heartwarming story by Amy LeFeuvre which has entertained countless children and adults over the years. This reprint contains the three original illustrations appended to the first edition. We join the title character, who is a proud and strong-willed young boy. Openly gregarious, Teddy is a natural storyteller and makes friends in his locality thanks to this talent. His favorite tale of all however is one which concerns his father: a brave soldier who fought and died in battle when Teddy was very young. Proud of his father's bravery, Teddy carries a button from the very jacket his Dad fought in. Eventually Teddy begins to attend church, where he steadily realizes that the finest captain of all is not of the military, but of the Lord. Gradually, Teddy's belief in Jesus Christ strengthens; he realizes that his assertive nature could well verge on bullying, and that by serving God he can extinguish his capacity for bad deeds.

Book A Day in the Life of My Teddys Bears

Download or read book A Day in the Life of My Teddys Bears written by Rosaleen Obrien-Pegler and published by Chipmunkapublishing ltd. This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DescriptionIn writing this book Rosaleen has captured the heart of every man, woman, and child, seeing the world through the eyes of a Teddy Bear, and has stirred up childhood memories of long forgotten years. Whether you are a child or an adult this book has been written just for you. Teddy Bear is usually the one and only toy that Mum will trust with her baby, as he/or /she begins to learn how to place trust in what is usually her first soft toy. Such soft fur and a welcoming face is a joy to see giving young children confidence in the knowledge that when dad and mum turn out the lights at night their little one is not alone. Also Teddy plays a role when children have bee advised about their behaviour and they feel frustrated they can confide in Teddy. Teddy is on childrens level and even when one has to go shopping and leave at home their partner who may not be well it is a nice thing to place Teddy beside them on the sofa. This book has been written by Rosaleen who got behind the mind of Teddy and has related his concerns and joys, even older folk in hospices have a Teddy to bring comfort. All in all this book deserves a place in every school, nursery, library, and of course family homes.Teddy Bear promises one thing that is he will give you back all the love that you give him and more...By the way Rosaleen has just one question...What happened to your Teddy Bear?About the AuthorI have been in receipt of trauma counselling since 1999 on a daily basis, at times speaking till the early hours of the morning.Support from my trauma Counsellor helps me to come to terms with accepting that what has happened to me cannot now be changed. I cannot ever forgive those who had a vicarious liability to look after me and failed. As a result of being locked away for some years all because we were poor has brought certain limitations to my day to day life. Writing is a form of therapy and allows me to be free to be the person that I want to be, and should have been my birthright. Through writing I can reach out to others who may have had such an unfortunate experience as myself . Daily flashbacks can be upsetting and I fill my life with things to do so as to block them out. Day to day life can be exhausting and coping mechanisms that I learnt in order to survive have not helped me in the outside world. God help all fellow survivors and perhaps one day Ireland will accept the terrible price we paid. Shame on all you right thinking residents in Ireland to allow the government and Catholic Church to ignore harm done to me and many others who are either dead or too ill to tell their story. Thanks to Chipmunkapublishing I have been able to confront my demons and a Big Thank you to Reatha my trauma counsellor without her I would not be here today writing about my stolen life.

Book excerpt: Thimbleful' is a compilation of short stories for young children who are in the age group of six to twelve years. With the parents' care and pampering, children are often devoid of many worldly anxieties. Every child believes that as long as their parents are with them, they can be worry-free. The worrisome outlook that grownups acquire with age, by & by, is blissfully unaware to them .That makes children more & more endearing to all of us. A beautiful flower, a bewitching colour, an act of kindness, a word of encouragement, all have the ability to leave a lasting impression on the little ones .If we can strive to keep their world as such, Mother nature would be indebted to us forever & ever. The author adheres to this opinion. Let us bring out the hidden rainbow for them!

Book Development of executive function during childhood

Download or read book Development of executive function during childhood written by Yusuke Moriguchi and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2016-04-01 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Executive function refers to the goal-oriented regulation of one’s own thoughts, actions, and emotions. Its importance is attested by its contribution to the development of other cognitive skills (e.g., theory of mind), social abilities (e.g., peer interactions), and academic achievement (e.g., mathematics), and by the consequences of deficits in executive function (which are observed in wide range of developmental disorders, such as attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism). Over the last decade, there have been growing interest in the development of executive function, and an expanding body of research has shown that executive function develops rapidly during the preschool years, with adult-level performance being achieved during adolescence or later. This recent work, together with experimental research showing the effects of interventions targeting executive function, has yielded important insights into the neurocognitive processes underlying executive function. Given the complexity of the construct of executive function, however, and the multiplicity of underlying processes, there are often inconsistencies in the way that executive function is defined and studied. This inconsistency has hampered communication among researchers from various fields. This Research Topic is intended to bridge this gap and provide an opportunity for researchers from different perspectives to discuss recent advances in understanding childhood executive function. Researchers using various methods, including, behavioral experiments, neuroimaging, eye-tracking, computer simulation, observational methods, and questionnaires, are encouraged to contribute original empirical research. In addition to original empirical articles, theoretical reviews and opinions/perspective articles on promising future directions are welcome. We hope that researchers from different areas, such as developmental psychology, educational psychology, experimental psychology, neuropsychology, neuroscience, psychiatry, computational science, etc., will be represented in the Research Topic.
