Download or read book Nature Based Solutions for Building Resilience in Towns and Cities written by Asian Development Bank and published by Asian Development Bank. This book was released on 2016-12-01 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Urban populations are projected to increase from 54% to 66% of the global population by 2050, with close to 90% of the increase concentrated in Asia and Africa. Cities and towns---a growing source of greenhouse gas emissions---will need to address challenges posed by climate change. A nature-based approach in identifying climate change vulnerabilities and developing relevant adaptation options was conducted in three towns of the Greater Mekong Subregion. Working with local governments, nongovernment organizations, women's groups, and professional associations, town-wide adaptation measures were defined by overlaying climate change projections on town plans and zoning schemes for strategic infrastructure. This publication captures valuable experience and lessons from the project.

This book was released on 2022-12-01 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report explains the complex challenges facing the six countries in the renewables-rich Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) as they work to implement a comprehensive framework to enable regional electricity power trading. Against the backdrop of energy market volatility, it details how ADB is helping high-voltage electricity network operators reach a deal on interconnections which could unlock extensive economic benefits for each GMS country. Acknowledging a transparent power-sharing regime is still some way off, it provides a road map to help countries overcome infrastructural challenges and political concerns to build a fully synchronized GMS transmission network.

Download or read book Energy Efficiency Developments and Potential Energy Savings in the Greater Mekong Subregion written by Asian Development Bank and published by Asian Development Bank. This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report was produced under the technical assistance project Promoting Renewable Energy, Clean Fuels, and Energy Efficiency in the Greater Mekong Subregion (TA 7679). It reports on energy efficiency targets and developments in five countries in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS): Cambodia, the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam. The GMS countries envisage substantial energy efficiency savings over the next 15 to 20 years, with overall energy efficiency savings amounting to almost 60 million tons of oil equivalent annually by 2030. Most GMS governments have established plans for reaching these targets and have implemented policy, regulatory, and program measures to lower energy intensity and achieve energy efficiency. GMS countries project that their energy needs will double or triple over the next 15 years and greater energy efficiency offers a win-win public-private sector partnership for reducing unsustainable reliance on high-carbon (coal and oil) fuels.
Download or read book GMS Transport Sector Strategy 2030 written by Asian Development Bank and published by Asian Development Bank. This book was released on 2018-11-01 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new strategy for transport development in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) consists of a strategic framework covering 2018–2030 and a set of performance indicators initially covering 2018–2022. It is mainly a strategic document providing a common framework for GMS cooperation in the transport sector. Cooperation in the transport sector has been at the core of the GMS Economic Cooperation Program since its inception in 1992. The main thrust of the program was eliminating the barriers to cooperation, and the significant lack of connectivity was a critical constraint on economic relations among the GMS countries.
Download or read book Review of Configuration of the Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Corridors written by Asian Development Bank and published by Asian Development Bank. This book was released on 2018-02-01 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The economic corridor approach was adopted by the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) countries in 1998 to help accelerate subregional development. The development of economic corridors links production, trade, and infrastructure within a specific geographic area. The review of these corridors was conducted to take into account the opening up of Myanmar and ensure that there is a close match between corridor routes and trade flows; GMS capitals and major urban centers are connected to each other; and the corridors are linked with maritime gateways. The review came up with recommendations for possible extension and/or realignment of the corridors, and adoption of a classification system for corridor development. The GMS Ministers endorsed the recommendations of the study at the 21st GMS Ministerial Conference in Thailand in 2016.
