Book Valuation of Internet and Technology Stocks

Download or read book Valuation of Internet and Technology Stocks written by Brian Kettell and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-03-25 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Valuation of Internet and Technology Stocks offers practical information on how to value internet and high-tech companies more accurately. The book reviews previous practice, highlights the deficiencies in existing stock market techniques, and shows how to modify or replace them. It also demonstrates how the New Economics necessitates new forms of investment analysis. This book presents new ways of looking, researching and valuing internet and high-tech companies. It explains why there has been a high correlation between high loss companies and a rocketing stock price. It questions whether there is still a place for discounted cash flows when there is no cash flow to discount. It also considers what new methods are available to value super growth companies and whether these methods are any better than existing techniques. Chapters deal with a wide range of topics including: where technology/internet stocks fit in a new economy; how you value traditional common stocks; application of the Porter model to the valuation of technology/internet stocks; problems with applying traditional valuation models for technology/internet stocks; derivative markets and real options; and the lessons that can be learned by investors from the year 2000 collapse of technology/internet stocks. This text will be of interest to traders, investment managers, institutional investors, plan managers, and finance professionals. * Investigates why there has been a high correlation between high loss companies and a rocketing stock price * Questions whether there is still a place for discounted cash flows when there is no cash flow to discount * Considers what new methods are available to value super growth companies and whether these methods are any better than existing techniques

Book Tech Stock Valuation

Download or read book Tech Stock Valuation written by Mark Hirschey and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2003-06-17 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contribution of research and development to a company's market value has grown considerably in recent years. In the mid-1970s, accountants were able to capture on their ledgers 90-95% of a firm's book value, but by 2000 the importance of intangible assets had grown to the point where they could account for only 13-15%. Financial economists and accountants have investigated the link between a firm's market value and its R & D spending, and various factions advocate a variety of positions on the amount and rate of investment, investors' ability to capture returns on that investment, and ways to measure value, investment, and returns. 'Tech Stock Valuation' extends the R & D literature by providing detailed direct evidence on the market value implications of inventive and innovative output. Specifically, the book demonstrates that stock-price effects of patent output are most pronounced in the case of of high-quality patents, where patent quality is measured by scientific merit. Scientific measures of patent quality give tech stock investors and R & D managers a valuable new tool that can be used to measure R & D program effectiveness. At the same time, it gives investors a new tool to help them assess the value of hard-to-measure intangible assets. *Provides detailed direct evidence on the market value implications of inventive and innovative output *Based on recent research, much of which Dr. Hirschey has pioneered *Gives financial professionals a new tool for assessing R & D quality and its relation to market valuation.

Book Equity Research for the Technology Investor

Download or read book Equity Research for the Technology Investor written by Sundeep Bajikar and published by BAJIKAR TECH INVESTOR. This book was released on 2016-03-22 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes an equity research approach which combines principles of value investing with domain specific expertise in the technology industry. The book also provides an overview of the financial services industry and the different types of conflicts of interest that drive market participants toward objectives that may not be aligned with those of the individual investor. The book describes an equity research process that I have followed throughout my career as a financial analyst, and shows that equity research is difficult not just for the technical skills involved but also due to behavioral issues that one has to deal with quite frequently when it comes to investing. Equity Research takes a lot of work - much more than an individual investor is likely to be able to commit given that her main profession is probably something other than investing. A central message of the book is for the individual investor to find an independent investment manager who she can trust to pursue an investment strategy that is aligned with her goals.

Nothing But Net provides the knowledge and insights you need to understand what’s really hot, to know what’s not, and to outperform other investors consistently and decisively. Famous for his smart, savvy and unique approach to Tech stock investing, Mark Mahaney provides his 10 proven rules for succeeding as a long-term Tech stock investor—explaining everything he’s learned during almost 25 years of analyzing internet stocks, including: Why revenue growth and customer metrics―not earnings―are what matter most to Tech investors How to invest―not trade―in the great growth opportunities that lie ahead How to determine when high valuations are a warning sign and when they signal an opportunity “I’ve watched the rise of some of the leading companies of today–Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, Google–and the fall of some of the leading companies of yesterday–Yahoo!, eBay, and AOL...,” Mahaney writes. “[F]iguring out which companies really are going to be dominant franchises is an extremely hard thing to do. But those who accomplished this were arguably able to generate some of the best portfolio returns in the stock market over the past generation.” Nothing But Net provides powerful advice for the next two decades―lessons you can start applying today and use for years to come.

Book Where the Money Is

Download or read book Where the Money Is written by Adam Seessel and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-05-24 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “One of the best books I have read on investing in years. ” —Bill Ackman, founder and CEO, Pershing Square Capital Management From a successful investor and a contributor to Barron’s and Fortune comes a once-in-a-lifetime book that gives modern investors what they need most: a fresh guide to making money in a stock market now dominated by tech stocks. Technological change is reshaping the economy in a way not witnessed since Henry Ford introduced the assembly line. A little more than ten years ago, only two of the ten most valuable publicly traded companies in the world were digital enterprises—today, they comprise eight of the top ten. Investors around the world are struggling to understand the Digital Age and how they can use the stock market to profit from it. Author Adam Seessel understands. Several years ago, he watched his old-school portfolio built using traditional value investing principles decline while the market, driven by “expensive” tech stocks, advanced. Determined to reverse course, he set off in search of a new investment paradigm, one that remained true to the discipline that Ben Graham gave us a century ago while reflecting the new realities of the Digital Age. In this “helpful take on playing the stock market” (Publishers Weekly), Seessel introduces a refreshed value-based framework that any investor, professional or amateur, can use to beat the modern market. Like all sectors, the tech sector follows certain rules. We can study these rules, understand them, and invest accordingly. The world is changing, and we can profit from it. Approaching tech this way, the economy’s current changes and the rapid rise of tech stocks are not reasons to be frightened or disoriented—they’re reasons to be excited. Infused with the same kind of optimism and common sense that inspired Benjamin Graham’s The Intelligent Investor and Peter Lynch’s One Up on Wall Street, Where the Money Is ushers in a new era of modern value investing.
