Book Scuba Fundamental

Download or read book Scuba Fundamental written by Simon Pridmore and published by Sandsmedia via PublishDrive. This book was released on 2020-02-26 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you do not yet scuba dive but are thinking of learning, then Scuba Fundamental - Start Diving the Right Way is for you. It takes you from the germ of the idea that you might like to try scuba diving up to the point where you have done around 20 dives. This is not your standard how-to scuba diving manual. It is very different. The purpose of Scuba Fundamental is not to teach you how to dive. A dive instructor will do that. But this book will make the learning process much easier. It will help you make the right choices and avoid the pitfalls that await new and uninformed divers coming into the sport. It will also set you well on the road to becoming a capable and competent lifelong diver. Scuba Fundamental tells you how to make sure you are prepared for a scuba diving course and what a good beginners course should entail. It tells you how to choose a good instructor, how to decide which operators to dive with after you have finished your course and what sort of dives you should be doing when you first start diving. You will learn the many ways in which diving will change your life and also acquire some extremely valuable advice on the etiquette involved in the sport. Throughout the book and especially in the chapter "It Happened to Me" you will be entertained, educated and encouraged by anecdotes from people who are now experienced divers but were once beginners too. There is also an entire section devoted to diving safety, much of which covers vitally important aspects of scuba diving that standard training manuals don't emphasise enough or even leave out completely. The book's message is: start scuba diving the right way and you will be relaxed and ready for the adventure. You will have more fun, make fewer mistakes and be confident in the fact that you are well informed, have made the best choices and have spent your money wisely. Scuba Fundamental is a unique, reliable and essential guide: one that you can trust completely and follow during this formative phase of your scuba diving life. "I wish I had had this book to read when I learned to dive. I remember being totally confused." Robin Yao, Executive Editor, EZDIVE magazine "This is the book divers should give to friends when they say they want to learn to scuba dive." Ian Thomas, Scuba Instructor Trainer

Book excerpt: “Superbly written and action-packed, The Last Dive ranks with such adventure classics as The Perfect Storm and Into Thin Air.”—Tampa Tribune Spurred on by a fatal combination of obsession and ambition, Chris and Chrisy Rouse, an experienced father-son scuba diving team, hoped to achieve wide-spread recognition for their outstanding and controversial diving skills by solving the secrets of a mysterious, undocumented, World War II German U-boat that lay only a half day’s mission from New York Harbor. The Rouses found the ultimate cost of chasing their personal challenge: death from what divers dread the most—decompression sickness, or “the bends.” In this gripping recounting of their tragedy, author Bernie Chowdhury, himself an expert diver, explores the thrill-seeking, high-risk world of deep sea diving, its legendary figures, most celebrated triumphs, and notorious tragedies.

Book The Psychology of Teaching Recreational Scuba Diving

Download or read book The Psychology of Teaching Recreational Scuba Diving written by Marc Luxen and published by . This book was released on 2017-12-05 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book about practical psychology for instructors of recreational scuba divers. (well, as far as I know). This is really quite amazing, because teaching diving is all about psychology! Dive instructors who can apply some easy psychological insights to what they do every day have more success in teaching, and also have a much easier time doing their job. I am glad you want to be one of them. This book will make you a better instructor, and very quickly as well. It is only a short book, easy to read, and very practical. But maybe you first want to know a bit about me. I am Marc, and I have worked as a dive instructor and PADI staff instructor for over ten years (with a few breaks in between). I have written a book about the theory of scuba diving, and made an online course about that too. I have trained hundreds of divers, and led many instructor training programs. I am not someone telling you something from behind a desk. I have got my stuff wet extensively. I also have a PhD. in psychology. Not the kind of psychology where you help people with mental problems, but the kind of psychology where you research how people are different and how you can work with that in things such as personnel selection or education. I left universities a long time ago to live at the sea and go diving, but of course I have never forgotten what I had learned in all those years. This book is the result of those two lives, I suppose.I told you this in the hope you will trust that I know what I am talking about. And what will we be talking about? This book has two parts: Part one is about recognising stress and dealing with stress by playing with control and social support. Then we will look how you can deal with mistakes, learn from them, and get feedback on your performance in a good way. Next up is working with differences between your students, and with cultural differences. The last chapter is about some cool psychological techniques: preparing for skills by using Mental Imagery and some elementary memory tricks. Part 2 is completely practical, and goes deeply into your every day work: applying the techniques of part 1 on land, like meeting and greeting students, briefing skills, or getting them into their gear; in confined water, like the psychology of demonstrations, evaluating skill performance, or dealing with students who go up. Finally, we look at your work in the ocean; diving from a boat, the decent, or leading dives with open water students. This short book will make you a much better dive instructor with almost no effort. That is really true. You will be amazed what a difference it will make. There is a Facebook support group for this book at https://www.facebook.com/groups/psychologyteachingdiving/Read on!
