Book Teacher s Handbook to the Catechism Vol 2

Download or read book Teacher s Handbook to the Catechism Vol 2 written by A. Urban and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Teacher's Handbook to the Catechism, Vol. 2: A Practical Explanation of Catholic Doctrine for School and Pulpit; With Special Regard and Minute Directions for the Catechizing of Children; The Commandments, With Nearly 2, 000 Questions and Answers A person in authority, or superior, is required for a command ment, because a subject can not command. The superior must make his will known. He must reveal it, otherwise the subjects can not know or fulfil it, nor could they be punished for acting against it. God, being the Supreme Lord of heaven and earth, the Lord of lords, His commandments are necessarily the most important. The Catechism puts the question: Is it sufficient for obtaining eternal salvation that we believe all that God has revealed? The answer is: No; we must also keep His commandments. Holy Scripture says: If thou wilt enter into life, keep the command ments (matt. Xix. I7). This question is asked at the very be ginning of this part, because Martin Luther and other heretics have taught that faith alone be sufficient for salvation. The Catholic Church meets this false doctrine with a denial, and says: It is not enough to believe only; our faith must be a living faith; we must live according to our belief, and must prove our faith by worker. He who does not live according to his faith resembles a man who, wishing to travel to a distant place, studies the route, the language, the customs and habits of the countries he must pass through, and yet does not undertake the journey, but remains at home. He can not therefore reach the end intended. That faith alone is not sufficient for salvation we know from the life of our Lord. When the rich young man asked: Lord, what must I do to obtain eternal life? The answer was: If thou wouldst enter into life, keep the commandments. Christ did not say: If thou wouldst enter into life, believe - but He said, Keep the commandments. The Catechism asks further: Are we able to keep the command ments of God? Book Course of Christian Doctrine Vol 2

Download or read book Course of Christian Doctrine Vol 2 written by and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-14 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Course of Christian Doctrine, Vol. 2: A Handbook for Teachers; Grades V, Vi, VII, VIII Why should we not employ the same means in teaching Catechism? Traditional methods should be broken with; we should take up again something of the idea that informed the old Miracle plays, and with all possible reverence press into the service of religion every appliance that has helped to simplify and make pleasant our secular teach ing. If the test of the master's success is the child's willing cooperation, have we had full reason to be satisfied with the results obtained by the Catechetical Method alone? The Course of Religious Instruction herewith presented is the outcome of attempts to bring the New Education to bear on the old sacred and unchangeable truths, and to lead the children not only to know, but to love and practise them. Prepared at first as a guide to young teachers of a religious community, it met with the approbation of priests who saw its practical results; then it passed into wider circulation, so that for several years it has stood the test of actual use in the schoolroom. In response to repeated requests it is now published for general use, in the hope that it may not be less effective in a wider sphere than it has been in a comparatively limited circle.
