Book excerpt: Excerpt from Teachers Handbook to Bible History: A Practical Commentary Upon the Principal Events of the Old and New Testament With Directions for Their Application in the Religious and Moral Training of Children A. Preparation. - Many thousand years ago there was no earth, no sun, no moon, no star, no animal; not even man existed. God alone reigned supreme then as always. We shall now see how God created the earth, the sun, the moon, the stars, the animals upon the earth, the birds in the air, the fish in the sea, and last - the most perfect of creatures - man. B. Narration. - Points: (I) The Creation of the World. (2) The Institution of the Sabbath. C. Explanation. - (a) "In the beginning" - that is to say, before the world was formed, the time when nothing existed but God alone - "God created" - that is, by His divine power He called forth out of nothing - "heaven and earth" - heaven, the invisible world wherein the angels dwell; the earth, the visible world, the temporary abiding-place of man. This earth as first called forth was not beautiful as now, but a great waste of waters, a place desolate, empty, void - without animal or plant - it had not yet been prepared for man. Over the wide expanse of desolate waters, whose great depths covered vast precipices, the Spirit of God moved, that all might be brought from chaos to order and made into a habitable earth for the being man He was later to create. "And God said: Be light made" - "Light" full, complete, independent light. "And God said: Let there be a firmament" - "Firmament," that is, the atmosphere which surrounds the earth and which we generally call the heavens. It is that space which extends from the earth to the fixed stars. "The waters were divided from the waters;" that is, one portion of them became as vapor, and was elevated above the firmament in the form of clouds: these God called the waters above. The other portion He called the waters below the firmament; that is, the waters which were left upon the earth; this water He called the sea, and gathered it into the place He had prepared for it - the basin of the sea which surrounds the dry land. Next, God made "the dry land to appear," to which He gave the name of earth, which means sterile. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Bible History for Children and Youth

Download or read book Bible History for Children and Youth written by Habakkuk Educational Materials and published by . This book was released on 2021-04-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book begins with the story of Creation in the Old Testament and ends with a discussion of Revelation, the last book of the New Testament. It can be read independently by third-grade students and up and was designed to improve a student's reading skills while learning about Bible history. Each story is followed by a list of questions meant to test their comprehension over what was read. (Answers are available in Teacher Resources and Answer Keys to Accompany Bible History for Children and Youth, by Habakkuk Educational Materials.) Besides the questions in the book, computer-based tests that consist mainly of multiple-choice questions are available for each Bible story and can be accessed free of charge by visiting the website of Habakkuk Educational Materials at https://www.habakkuk.net/. The computer will notify users if an answer is correct or incorrect, and their grades will be displayed after completing a test. Forty Bible verses, each with its own tune to assist children with its memorization, have also been posted to the website. Many of the stories have illustrations that can be filled in with colored pencils or crayons, and several even include reproductions of famous paintings in the public domain, such as Carl Bloch's "Sermon on the Mount." In addition, the stories provide the correct pronunciation of challenging Bible names, and a pronunciation guide is provided prior to the first story. In the Old Testament section, students will learn how God kept His promise to give the children of Israel the land of Canaan and how He responded to the prayers of such persons as Hannah, David, and Hezekiah when they cried out to Him for help. In the New Testament section, they will read about Jesus' teachings, His love and compassion for all people, the sacrifice He made for us, and the mission His followers embarked on to spread the Good News. In addition, this book elaborates on Old Testament prophecies that were fulfilled, including the Babylonian captivity and the suffering Messiah, and examines the history behind certain Jewish and Christian holidays and the significance behind the Lord's Supper.
