Download or read book Tax Planning for Farm and Land Diversification written by Julie Butler and published by Bloomsbury Professional. This book was released on 2020-12-16 with total page 688 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasingly those running a farming business need to look closely at opportunities to diversify their revenue streams as the more traditional activities become less sustainable on their own. This title is written for the accountants, tax advisers and others who have these businesses or individuals as their clients. It explores the tax planning opportunities available in different circumstances such as re-use of redundant buildings and planting more woodland. Relevant cases are considered throughout as is the increasing focus of HMRC towards the reliefs available to farmers. The sixth edition covers a number of important new developments: - the Agriculture Bill 2019-20 which has the main aims of reforming UK agriculture policy, replacing the current subsidy system, supporting land-owners and farmers in the transition away from the Common Agricultural Policy and introducing a new Environmental Land Management scheme - the results of the consultation on tenancy reform - New CGT returns from 5 April 2020 (need for a 30-day disclosure) - The new Annual Investment Allowance set at £1 million - Implications from the pressure to plant more trees (and promise of more subsidies) to increase the profitability of woodland - The tax impact of 'rewilding' and 'agroforestry'

Book Butler s Equine Tax Planning

Download or read book Butler s Equine Tax Planning written by Julie Butler and published by . This book was released on 2018-10-25 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Butler's Equine Tax Planning: Second Edition examines all the important tax issues relating to equestrian matters. It is a must read for all those involved in this complex industry, looking at its various different areas together with a consideration of tax planning and protection against tax pitfalls. Butler's Equine Tax Planning understands the vast range of equestrian industries, from stud farms, competition yards and liveries to individuals at the top of their game in polo, eventing, dressage and racing. All these have very different tax treatments and here these are explained and examined in light of recent tax legislation and decisions resulting from a number of tax tribunals over the last few years. One important issue for all new equine businesses is losses. The equestrian industry generally has high infrastructure costs and early year losses are thus not unusual. Understanding how these tax losses can be maximised against other income is therefore key. Other important areas that require tax planning are often less obvious. For example, a lot of equestrian enterprises stem from farm diversification and the alternative use of land, which has a complex set of tax rules in itself. There are also tax implications associated to the development opportunities of an equestrian unit which now may arise with the Government decision to ensure there are more houses in the UK. This book captures the passion and enthusiasm for the industry and the advantages and opportunities that accompany it whilst embracing all the tax efficiencies and highlighting tax problems. ABOUT THE AUTHOR After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1980, Julie founded Butler & Co in 1986. Book excerpt: Butler's Equine Tax Planning: Third Edition examines all the important tax issues relating to equestrian matters. It is a must read for all those involved in this complex industry, looking at its various different areas together with a consideration of tax planning around a large number of changes and protection against tax pitfalls. Equine Tax Planning understands the vast range of equestrian industries, from stud farms, competition yards and liveries to individuals at the top of their game in polo, eventing, dressage and racing. All these have very different tax treatments and here these are explained and examined in light of recent tax legislation and decisions resulting from a number of tax tribunals over the last few years, e.g. Cliff and Vigne. One important issue for all equine businesses is the tax efficiency of losses. Understanding how tax relief for these tax losses can be maximised against other income is key. Other important areas that require tax planning are often less obvious. For example, a lot of equestrian enterprises stem from farm diversification and the alternative use of land, which has a complex set of tax rules in itself. There are also tax implications associated with the development opportunities of equestrian property which may arise with the Government's continued drive to ensure there are more houses in the UK, and this edition focuses on how to maximise any tax planning opportunities available. Since the second edition the industry has had to cope with COVID, Brexit and lockdown. The farming world has also been in turmoil with subsidy changes, a move towards farming for the environment and the Agriculture Act 2020 which has impacted on the equine world, especially stud farms. There have also been a number of tribunals on the mixed rate of Stamp Duty Land Tax. All the changes have put a large focus on the pony paddock and the "happy hacker" with increases in horse prices and the value of equestrian properties staying strong. This book captures the passion and enthusiasm for the industry and the advantages and opportunities that accompany it whilst embracing all the tax efficiencies and highlighting tax problems at an early stage.

Book Federal Tax Policies and Farm Households

Download or read book Federal Tax Policies and Farm Households written by Ron Durst and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2010-02 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Changes in Fed. tax provisions affecting both individual and business income taxes have reduced average tax rates for all farm households, resulting in the lowest tax burden on farm income and investment in a decade. Similarly, an analysis of the changes to Fed. estate tax policies suggests that increases in the value of property that can be transferred to the next generation free of the estate tax, combined with special provisions for farmers and other small businesses, have greatly reduced the number of farm estates subject to the tax and the amount owed. While nearly 10% of commercial farm estates could owe tax in 2009, only 1-2% of all farm estates are estimated to be subject to the Fed. estate tax this year. Charts and tables.
