Book TASTING THE POWERS OF THE AGE TO COME

Download or read book TASTING THE POWERS OF THE AGE TO COME written by Elvis Mbonye and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In August, 2007, something extraordinary happened in the life of Mrs. Jennifer Isabirye (not her real names), a short, slender, middle-aged career teacher whom I had not met until that day. It was at a conference organized annually in Kamuli, a small town district in the eastern region of Uganda. The conference was held at Bethel Church. It was the first time I attended this prophetic event upon invitation to speak. Seated in the crowded room were people from the surrounding area and beyond, about 200 of them. This was not your usual event; strange things were happening as I singled out individuals, uncannily describing facts about their lives with amazing accuracy. Mrs. Isabirye happened to be one of them. "You are angry at a certain man for financial reasons," I said to her. "Forgive him, for if you don't you will hold back your progress." "I also see a problem with your fibroids," I added. "I see you had an operation about them, but it wasn't successful. I see a swelling around your lower abdomen (that part of her body was fully covered by her dress) and it's because of those fibroids." I was not through with Mrs. Isabirye. "Today you will experience a strange discharge from your body, but have no fear about it, for it will be God dealing with you. However, make sure you neither let your doctor nor your daughter know about it. If you do this if you keenly follow my revelatory directions you will receive a miraculous healing shortly." In her subsequent testimony, a day later, Mrs. Isabirye verified everything. Astounded at how I could know these things, she said, "The man I was bitter with was my employer, because for six months I had not received my salary. Also, I have fibroids, and a few months ago I had an operation about them that wasn't successful. "However, what surprised me even more was when he (implying me) said I should neither tell my doctor nor my daughter after the strange discharge from my body. I only see one doctor and I only have one daughter for a child; how he could have known that is beyond any earthly explanation. I experienced the strange discharge from my body that day, but unfortunately I told my doctor and daughter about it." Because she did not keenly follow the revelatory directions, Mrs. Isabirye did not receive her miraculous healing. However, the following year I was back there and I was taken to her house where I prayed for her. I called the experience extraordinary because that is what it was for Mrs. Isabirye and for several other people who got to witness or experience the mystical for the first time. But to me, such uncanny comprehension and the supernatural world are, for the lack of a better word, commonplace. And they can be for you too, if you are daring enough to read through. Atheist or agnostics may dismiss Mrs. Isabirye's story as spiritual mumbo-jumbo. They will undoubtedly have a perfectly logical argument why such supernatural occurrences are not possible. Denominational Christians who think of faith as nothing more than a set of dos and don'ts might similarly dismiss it, perhaps with less fervour. They too would have sound arguments in support of their positions. What I am presenting in this book, however, are experiences. The world abounds with arguments, every man or woman has one to back their position and most of them make good sense. But in her time of need, Mrs. Isabirye didn't need an argument, she needed an experience. Someone with an experience is never at the mercy of someone with just an argument. So whatever your disposition; believer, agnostic, atheist or anything in between, I dare you to read this with an open mind, you will undoubtedly find this text eerily challenging. Early experiences The mysterious world of the supernatural is not a reality I discovered in my latter years. Growing up as a child in Bugolobi, a middle-class suburb of Kampala, I frequently experienced close enc

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than seventy years, The Spiritual Man, Watchman Nee's classic on spiritual growth, has helped believers advance in their pursuit of gaining Christ by showing them the way to let the Lord fully gain them. According to Nee, "The most frustrating experience of believers today is that in seeking for progress in the spiritual path, they do not find the proper way. As a result, they grope in darkness, being at times high or low, lingering around the crossroads year in and year out, and having no one to consult for direction. The author of this book was such a one. For this reason, the book emphasizes clear guidance on the proper path. Every chapter of this book is for the purpose of directing the believers on the right course. Therefore, all those who seek after God with an honest heart can go step by step accordingly. Almost every chapter begins from the position of the sinner and goes on step by step toward the peak of spiritual life." This electronic book is the third of three volumes.

Book excerpt: Winner, Arab American National Museum Book Award for Children's/YA Literature, among other awards and honors. "When a war ends it does not go away," my mother says."It hides inside us . . . Just forget!" But I do not want to do what Mother says . . . I want to remember. In this groundbreaking memoir set in Ramallah during the aftermath of the 1967 Six-Day War, Ibtisam Barakat captures what it is like to be a child whose world is shattered by war. With candor and courage, she stitches together memories of her childhood: fear and confusion as bombs explode near her home and she is separated from her family; the harshness of life as a Palestinian refugee; her unexpected joy when she discovers Alef, the first letter of the Arabic alphabet. This is the beginning of her passionate connection to words, and as language becomes her refuge, allowing her to piece together the fragments of her world, it becomes her true home. Transcending the particulars of politics, this illuminating and timely book provides a telling glimpse into a little-known culture that has become an increasingly important part of the puzzle of world peace.

Book Still Sovereign

  • Author : Thomas R. Schreiner
  • Publisher : Baker Books
  • Release : 2000-03-01
  • ISBN : 1585585149
  • Pages : 534 pages

Download or read book Still Sovereign written by Thomas R. Schreiner and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2000-03-01 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relationship between divine sovereignty and the human will is a topic of perennial theological dispute and one that is gaining increased attention among contemporary evangelicals. In Still Sovereign, thirteen scholars write to defend the classical view of God's sovereignty. According to the editors, "Ours is a culture in which the tendency is to exalt what is human and diminish what is divine. Even in evangelical circles, we find increasingly attractive a view of God in which God is one of us, as it were, a partner in the unfolding drama of life. . . . In contrast, the vision of God affirmed in these pages is of one who reigns supreme over all, whose purposes are accomplished without fail, and who directs the course of human affairs, including the central drama of saving a people for the honor of his name, all with perfect holiness and matchless grace." The fourteen chapters of Still Sovereign (originally part of the two-volume, The Grace of God, the Bondage of the Will) are divided into three parts. Part 1 offers fresh exegesis of the biblical texts that bear most directly on the doctrines of election, foreknowledge, and perseverance of the saints. Part 2 explores theological and philosophical issues related to effectual calling, prevenient grace, assurance of salvation, and the nature of God's love. The final section applies the doctrines of election and divine sovereignty to Christian living, prayers, evangelism, and preaching.

Book Seeing and savouring Jesus Christ

Download or read book Seeing and savouring Jesus Christ written by JOHN PIPER and published by Inter-Varsity Press. This book was released on 2020-05-21 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who is Jesus Christ? You've never met Him in person, and you don't know anyone who has. But there is a way to know who he is. How? Jesus Christ - the divine Person revealed in the Bible - has a unique excellence and a spiritual beauty that speaks directly to our souls and says, "Yes, this is truth." It's like seeing the sun and knowing that it is light, or tasting honey and knowing that it is sweet. The depth and complexity of Jesus shatter our simple mental frameworks. He baffled proud scribes with his wisdom but was understood and loved by children. He calmed a raging storm with a word but would not get himself down from the cross. Look at the Jesus of the Bible. Keep your eyes open, and fill them with the portrait of Jesus in God's Word. Jesus said, "If anyone's will is to do God's will, He will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority." Ask God for the grace to do His will, and you will see the truth of His Son. John Piper has written this book in the hope that all will see Jesus for who he really is and will come to enjoy him above all else.

Book Every Bitter Thing Is Sweet

Download or read book Every Bitter Thing Is Sweet written by Sara Hagerty and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2014-10-07 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sara Hagerty masterfully draws from her own story of spiritual and physical barrenness to birth in readers a new longing for God. With exquisite storytelling and reflection, Hagerty guides readers to a tender place that God is holding just for them—a place where he shapes the bitterness of lost expectations into deep, new places of knowing Him. In the age of fingertip access to answers and a limitless supply of ambitions, where do we find the God who was birthed in dirt and straw? Sara Hagerty found him when life stopped working for her. She found him when she was a young adult mired in spiritual busyness and when she was a new bride with doubts about whether her fledgling marriage would survive. She found him alone in the night as she cradled her longing for babies who did not come. She found him as she kissed the faces of children on another continent who had lived years without a mommy’s touch. In Every Bitter Thing Is Sweet, Hagerty masterfully draws from the narrative of her life to craft a mosaic of a God who leans into broken stories. Here readers see a God who is present in every changing circumstance. Most significantly, they see a God who is present in every unchanging circumstance as well Whatever lost expectations readers are facing—in family, career, singleness, or marriage—Every Bitter Thing Is Sweet will bring them closer to a God who longs for them to know him more. What does it look like to know God’s nearness when life breaks? What does it mean to receive his life when earthly life remains barren? How can God turn the bitterness of unmet desire into new flavors of joy? With exquisite storytelling and reflection, Hagerty brings readers back to hope, back to healing, back to a place that God is holding for them alone—a place where the unseen is more real than what the eye can perceive. A place where every bitter thing is sweet.

Book excerpt: What beliefs are core to the Christian faith? This book is here to help you understand the reason for your hope as a Christian so that you can see it with fresh sight and invite others into the conversation. A lot of Christians take their story—the narratives that give rise to their beliefs—for granted. They pray, go to church, perhaps even read their Bible. But they might be stuck if a stranger asked them to explain what they believe and why they believe it. Author, pastor, and theologian Mike Horton unpacks the essential and basic beliefs that all Christians share in a way that is easy to understand and applicable to our lives today. And in a way that will make you excited to be a Christian! Core Christianity covers topics like: Jesus as both fully God and fully man. The doctrine of the Trinity. The goodness of God despite a broken world. The ways God speaks. The meaning of salvation. What is the Christian calling? Includes discussion questions for individual or group use. This introduction to the basic doctrines of Christianity is perfect for those who are new to the faith, as well as those who have an interest in deepening their understanding of what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.

Book The Cross and Salvation Hardcover

Download or read book The Cross and Salvation Hardcover written by Bruce Demarest and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2006-08-01 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With America's confidence in the Bible at an all-time low and the strength of her spiritual convictions waning, it is essential for Christians—especially Christian leaders—to be well-grounded in biblical theology. To have a clear and comprehensive understanding of the key doctrines of evangelicalism. In response, professor and award-winning author Bruce Demarest has made plain God's glorious plan of salvation, his provision for the human dilemma through Christ's work on the cross, and the application of saving grace to unbelievers. Demarest's unique approach defines each topic, identifies its most pressing issues, examines the ways in which the doctrine has been understood historically, and interprets the Bible's revelation. The result is a clear and carefully constructed doctrinal statement that you can defend, live out, and communicate to others. This singular, comprehensive treatment of one of Christianity's essential doctrines gives definitive, Bible-based answers about salvation and the cross— and about related theological issues such as grace and regeneration. It's perfect for clarifying your theology and gaining deep understanding of this foundational theme. Part of the Foundations of Evangelical Theology series.

In God of All Things, pastor and author Andrew Wilson invites you to rediscover God in this way, too--through ordinary, everyday things. He explores the idea of a material world and presents a variety of created marvels that reveal the gospel in everyday life and fuel worship and joy in God--marvels like: Dust: the image of God Horns: the salvation of God Donkeys: the peace of God Water: the life of God Viruses: the problem of God Cities: the kingdom of God God of All Things will leave you with a deeper understanding of Scripture, the world you live in, and the God who made it all.
