Download or read book Metaheuristics for Scheduling in Distributed Computing Environments written by Fatos Xhafa and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-09-08 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grid computing has emerged as one of the most promising computing paradigms of the new millennium! Achieving high performance Grid computing requires techniques to efficiently and adaptively allocate jobs and applications to available resources in a large scale, highly heterogenous and dynamic environment. This volume presents meta-heuristics approaches for Grid scheduling problems. Due to the complex nature of the problem, meta-heuristics are primary techniques for the design and implementation of efficient Grid schedulers. The volume brings new ideas, analysis, implementations and evaluation of meta-heuristic techniques for Grid scheduling, which make this volume novel in several aspects. The 14 chapters of this volume have identified several important formulations of the problem, which we believe will serve as a reference for the researchers in the Grid computing community. Important features include the detailed overview of the various novel metaheuristic scheduling approaches, excellent coverage of timely, advanced scheduling topics, state-of-the-art theoretical research and application developments and chapters authored by pioneers in the field. Academics, scientists as well as engineers engaged in research, development and scheduling will find the comprehensive coverage of this book invaluable.

Download or read book Mysteries in Management written by Ajeet Narain Mathur and published by Random House India. This book was released on 2016-12-07 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can managerial productivity be measured? In management, we continue to take many things for granted and not question the ‘unthought, unexplained knowns’. Why are women under-represented in parliament and in several corporate boards? Is management an art, a science or a craft? Most practitioners merely skim over these conundrums, without ever delving into it. Professor Ajeet N. Mathur has designed an exciting, new course titled ‘Mysteries in Management’ for the flagship MBA (PGP) programme at IIM Ahmedabad, in which selected mysteries that continue to persist in the field of management are discussed. This book includes ten carefully selected mysteries and the author, armed with credible research and revealing examples, tries to demystify them. Accessible and eminently readable, the logic behind these will surprise and delight readers in equal measure.
Download or read book Parallel Algorithm Derivation and Program Transformation written by Robert Paige and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-08-28 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains selected papers from the ONR Workshop on Parallel Algorithm Design and Program Transformation that took place at New York University, Courant Institute, from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1, 1991. The aim of the workshop was to bring together computer scientists in transformational programming and parallel algorithm design in order to encourage a sharing of ideas that might benefit both communities. It was hoped that exposurt: to algorithm design methods developed within the algorithm community would stimulate progress in software development for parallel architectures within the transformational community. It was also hoped that exposure to syntax directed methods and pragmatic programming concerns developed within the transformational community would encourage more realistic theoretical models of parallel architectures and more systematic and algebraic approaches to parallel algorithm design within the algorithm community. The workshop Organizers were Robert Paige, John Reif, and Ralph Wachter. The workshop was sponsored by the Office of Naval Research under grant number N00014-90-J-1421. There were 44 attendees, 28 presentations, and 5 system demonstrations. All attendees were invited to submit a paper for publication in the book. Each submitted paper was refereed by participants from the Workshop. The final decision on publication was made by the editors. There were several motivations for holding the workshop and for publishing papers contributed by its participants. Transformational programming and parallel computation are two emerging fields that may ultimately depend on each other for success.
