Book Microscopy Techniques for Biomedical Education and Healthcare Practice

Download or read book Microscopy Techniques for Biomedical Education and Healthcare Practice written by Leonard Shapiro and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-11-02 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited book has a strong focus on advances in microscopy that straddles research, medical education and clinical practice. These advances include the shift in power from conventional to digital microscopy. The first section of this book covers imaging techniques and morphometric image analysis with its applications in biomedicine using different microscopy modes. Chapters highlight the rich development of fluorescence methods and technologies; particle tracking techniques with applications in biomedical research and nanomedicine; the way in which visualizations have revolutionized taxonomy from gross anatomy to genetics; and the psychology of perception and how it affects our understanding of cells and tissues. The book’s first section concludes by exploring the use of CT modalities to evaluate anterior deformities in craniosynostosis. In the second section of the book, chapters on anatomical and cell biology education explore the history of anatomical models and their use in educational settings. This includes examples in 3D printing and functional human anatomical models that can be created using easily available resources and the use of biomedical imaging in visuospatial teaching of anatomy; the novel use of ultrasound in medical education and practice; and skill acquisition in histology education using a flowchart called a ‘decision tree’. This book will appeal to histologists, microscopists, cell biologists, clinicians and those involved in anatomical education and biomedical visualization, as well as students in those respective fields.

Book Protein tyrosine phosphatase interacting protein 51 during migration in HaCat cells

Download or read book Protein tyrosine phosphatase interacting protein 51 during migration in HaCat cells written by Eva Schubkegel and published by Lehmanns Media. This book was released on with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Survival comes and goes with migration! This thesis shows the importance of the Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase Interacting Protein 51 in migrating cells. Migrating cells are essential for wound healing - alias survival - or, on the other hand, are taking a responsible part of a carcinogen progress during metastatic invasion - alias death. Therefore, it is utmost of interest to discover more in detail the involved proteins and the protein-protein-interactions.

Book Synthetic Immunology

    Book Details:
  • Author : Takeshi Watanabe
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2016-06-09
  • ISBN : 4431560270
  • Pages : 210 pages

Download or read book Synthetic Immunology written by Takeshi Watanabe and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-09 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews the emerging studies of synthetic immunology, including the development and regeneration of immune cells, immune organ development and artificial regeneration, and the synthetic approach towards understanding human immune system. Immunology has developed rapidly over the last 50 years through the incorporation of new methods and concepts in cell and molecular biology, genetics, genomics and proteomics. This progress is the result of works by many excellent researchers all over the world. Currently, immunological research has accumulated detailed knowledge on basic mechanisms of immunity and is in the process to change medical practices. Yet, due to the enormous complexity of the immune system, many aspects on the regulation and function of this system remain unknown. Synthetic biology uses gain-of-function rather than loss-of-function approaches. The goals of synthetic biology can be described in a simple phrase “rebuild, alter, and understand,” namely, to rebuild minimal functional systems using well-defined parts from nature and then to perturb the system to understand its working principles. Given the richness of accumulated knowledge in molecular and cellular mechanisms of the immune system, we now begin adapting the concepts of synthetic biology to immunology. An immune response is a spatiotemporal phenomenon occurring at a given time and at a specialized place in the body. One goal of synthetic immunology is to reconstruct artificial microenvironments for better understanding of an immune response. We hope this yet-to-be-experimental approach of synthetic immunology and the compilation of this book will aid our further understanding of the immune system and future devising the tools to manipulate the immune system for therapy and prevention of the diseases.
