Before starting his Martial Arts school in Darwin, Australia in 1974, Master Caputo did extensive training in Tang Soo Do, Goju and Aikido, Nei Gong, Kick Boxing and Penak Silat; as well as mastering acupuncture and oriental medicine. After meeting Venerable Zasep Tulku Rinpoche in 1976, he subsequently travelled to India to study Tibetan Buddhism. There he met with HH Dalai Lama and was tutored by HH Ling Rinpoche and HH Trijang Rinpoche, tutors to the HH Dalai Lama. The Living Buddha in Martial Virtue is his account of his quest to rediscover the link between physical Martial Arts and spiritualism in the way that was conceived by warrior Buddhist monk, Bodhidharma, some 1500 years earlier. Sadly, Master Caputo died in a car accident in 1985 but his legacy is a thriving network of Martial Art schools administered by the Tang Soo Tao Federation of Australia. The release of the 50th Anniversary edition of his book honours his lasting legacy. Tang Soo Tao; martial art; martial arts; self defence; black be

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tang Soo Do The Way Of The Warrior In this book Grand Master Dominick Giacobbe gives the reader a complete understanding of the 2,000 year old Korean Martial Art of Tang Soo Do. This book is filled with philosophy, technology, terminology and the theory of the art. The way of the Warrior is a very important concept in the study of Tang Soo Do. To understand that almost 2,000 years ago on the southern beaches of Korea, a group of Hwa Rang Warriors planted the seed of Tang Soo Do. They incorporated the five point code of Honor which taught them to have an attitude to overcome all odds and obstacles. They developed the strength of mind to never give up or to never retreat in battle. They preached strength of mind and strength of spirit. For seven years these warriors trained intensely with extreme dedication and determination. They became strong from within. They believed in themselves and in their strengths. Our battles may not be the same as the Hwa Rang Warriors but we are confronted with battles each day of our lives. We must be strong, positive and never retreat in facing them. We are the modern day Warriors of Tang Soo Do. Face your troubles and learn to overcome them with strength and with a total positive mind. Tang Soo!

  • Pages : 404 pages

Download or read book Muye Dobo Tongji written by Chŏngjo ((Roi de Corée ;) and published by Turtle Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1789, King Chongjo, ruler of the Yi dynasty, ordered General Yi Duk-moo to compile an official textbook on all martial art forms then present in Korea to preserve them for future generations. The result, the Muye Dobo Tongji, is the only surviving classical text on the Korean arts of war. Based on the earliest known Korean martial arts treatise, the Muye Chebo written in 1599, the Muye Dobo Tongji clearly shows the influence of the neighbouring Japanese and Chinese armies. Through hundreds of wars and invasions, Korean soldiers adapted battlefield skills and tactics from their enemies, creating a unique system of their own. Organised into 24 distinct disciplines comprised of empty hand fighting, weaponry and horsemanship, this book is an accurate historical snapshot of the warrior arts of the hermit kingdom in the late 18th century. The release of 'The Comprehensive Illustrated Manual of Martial Arts of Ancient Korea' marks the first time this volume is available in English. Carefully translated from the original text and illustrated with reproductions of ancient woodblock carvings, this book provides fascinating insights into Korea's martial arts legacy.

Book Moo Do Chul Hahk

Download or read book Moo Do Chul Hahk written by Hyun Chul Hwang and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2009-08 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Moo Do Chul Hahk (Moo Do Philosophy) presents a philosophy of the internationally recognized martial art grandmaster and Founder of the Moo Duk Kwan, Hwang Kee. Hwang Kee established the Korean Soo Bahk Do Association, served as its President for many years, and dedicated his life to the practice and teaching of the traditional Korean Martial Art, Soo Bahk Do. The Moo Do Chul Hahk details a philosophy of the "martial way" (Moo Do), a philosophy of balance emphasizing the development of personal virtue and character. It is a book written as a guide for any martial arts practitioner who wishes to deepen their understanding and practice of Moo Do Philosophy to become an authentic moodoin--that is, a true follower and exemplar of the "Martial Way." This book was also written for students and scholars of Asian Studies interested in the evolution of Asian philosophical thought in the practice of traditional martial arts. Scholars will find descriptions of Taoist and Confucian philosophical principles and their application to a traditional Korean Martial Art by a deeply respected contemporary practitioner. The introduction provides a historical and socio-political context for the emergence of the organization known as the Moo Duk Kwan and the evolution of the practice of Soo Bahk Do. It also provides information regarding the basis of the practice of Soo Bahk Do founded in a highly treasured Korean historical document entitled the Moo Yei Do Bo Tong Ji. Scholars of Asian Studies interested in the historical, social, political and philosophical emergence of traditional martial arts will find this book a valuable source. However, readers will find that the real value offered by the Moo Do Chul Hahk, is a message of hope, peace and a way of living by following the principles of nature, harmony, balance, and virtue.

Book Tao Te Ching

  • Release : 2016-09-19
  • ISBN : 9781537772349
  • Pages : 74 pages

Download or read book Tao Te Ching written by Len Losik, Ph.d. and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-09-19 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tao Te Ching The Way of the Power is referred to as the Laozi and is one of only several ancient Chinese texts in existence. The text's true authorship and date of writing is unknown, although the oldest excavated copy dates back to the late 4th century BC, around the time of Adam and eve was in the Garden of Eden, Cain kills his brother Abel and the bronze age provides better weapons for men to kill each other. The Way of the Power was reduced to 34 chapters from 81 by the author. It's an example of Asian culture's way it stored and passed on Asian wisdom and knowledge, but updated using 21st century principles of modern psychology, Physics, Engineering and Roman Catholic and Protestant Christian religious theology for easier reading versus the way in which the West developed and used libraries and books on science, philosophy, architecture etc during the same time to do the same. The ideas are condensed to singular; the style is poetic. The rhetorical style now combines short, declarative statements and "possible" intentional contradictions for the reader to exercise their reasoning and deduction skills. The first lines create memorable phrases, while the second forces the reader to create their own understanding of the possible contradictions. The Tao Te Ching The Way of Power is one of just a few fundamental text for Taoist, Legalists, Confucius, Daosts and Buddhist followers to study as the Western Christian Bible is studied, which when it was first introduced, was interpreted through the Daoist words and concepts. The author includes many original Chinese art works including poetry, paintings, calligraphy and gardeners, and many artists used the Tao Te Ching for inspiration. Its influence spread widely outside Asia as well, and is among the most translated text in world literature due to the lack of ancient texts from Asian cultures. The Wade-Giles romanization for the "Tao Te Ching" dates back to early English transliterations in the late 19th century; its influence can be seen in words and phrases that are well established in English. The passages are purposefully ambiguous, and topics range from political advice for rulers to practical wisdom for everyday people. Because the variety of interpretation is limitless, not only for different people but for the same person over time, readers should avoid making claims of objectivity or definability. Its for those serious readers who want to have a mind expanding experience, one that will broadens one's ability to understand the less demanding Western texts while increasing one's wisdom and knowledge of the universe around us

Book excerpt: Wing Chun is one of the most popular martial arts in the world. It was made famous by Bruce Lee and his master, Yip Man. The most practiced form of Wing Chun is the Hong Kong version, which is streamlined and compact. However, older systems survive in China and one of them is the obscure art known as Fut Sao (Buddha Hand) Wing Chun. Fut Sao Wing Chun was brought to America in 1961 by Grandmaster Henry Leung, (Hong Lei, Chi Man), who learned the whole system under Great Master Gao Jhi Fut Sao. The system was passed down in America to Master Leung's one disciple, Sifu James Cama. In this book Cama sets out, for the first time, the outline of the Fut Sao system of Wing Chun Kuen. This book is special because, for the first time ever, the Fut Sao Siu Lin Tao and its two-man set are revealed. The Hei Gung set and meditation visualization practice are also detailed. The gem of the art is its internal practices which are rarely seen in Wing Chun. Chapters included: forms training, weapons, training enhancement devices, sensitivity training and internal training.
