Book Tales of Twilight Wood Lantern Town

Download or read book Tales of Twilight Wood Lantern Town written by Margaret Carew and published by . This book was released on 2016-12-14 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twilight Wood is a strange but enchanting place. Its edges are boggy, and there are lots of prickly brambles, stinging nettles and spiny yellow gorse bushes which protect its secrets from the outside world. Let us enter it together, just this once. Let us scramble carefully through one of the gaps in the thicket and tread the narrow path leading towards the little stone stile...and, if we walk a little further, a crooked signpost. To our left is Pigwidgeon Village, where the nasty goblins dwell. To our right is Lantern Town, the only part of Pigwidgeon Village that ever sees daylight. This is a place where nothing is bad. There are no foxes, giants or criminals-none of those silly people who laugh and say there is no such thing as make-believe. The little dwellings in Lantern Town come in all shapes and sizes, and are made from anything the little folk have found and brought back from the outside world...There are lots of colourful old boots and shoes, plant pots, jam jars and boxes-even a battered copper kettle. There is the Town Hall, the Church, the Fire Station, the Corner Shop, The Post Office and the Ironmongers. Everything, in fact, that you would find in your own town. Oh, and there is the Royal Palace, though the Queen is not as beautiful and kind as the little folk would like her to be. So, let us enter Lantern Town. Let us get to know some of its inhabitants, and hear of their adventures. I rather think you will want to go there time and time again!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fantastic and Horrific Stories (2021) is a collection of short fiction by Arthur Machen. Condemned as decadent and obscene upon publication, Machen’s writing earned praise from Oscar Wilde and H. P. Lovecraft. Throughout the years, Machen’s work has been referenced and adapted by such figures as Stephen King, Guillermo del Toro, and Josh Malerman for its masterfully unsettling blend of science, myth, and magic. The Great God Pan, perhaps Machen’s most celebrated work, is the story of an occult experiment gone horribly wrong. Clarke has always taken an interest in occult matters, so when a friend offers him a chance to witness an experimental procedure intended to access the spirit realm, he cannot refuse. When the young patient Mary awakens, she shows signs of terror and soon falls into a catatonic state. Convinced of their success in discovering the world of “the great god Pan,” Clarke and Raymond agree to keep their discovery a secret. Years later, a nearby town begins reporting the mysterious disappearances of young children, all of whom have been seen in the forest with a
