Book Leading the Charge

Download or read book Leading the Charge written by Tony Zinni and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2009-08-04 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "What's happened to our leaders and to our leadership?" Based on General Zinni's leadership experiences from the battlefield to the boardroom, Leading the Charge shows a new way through the significant leadership challenges of the 21st century. The times are changing at an ever-increasing velocity. Old systems, organizations, and ways of operating no longer work in our dynamic, complex and increasingly unstable new environment. Out of this chaos and confusion, a new and different leader must emerge. Old systems and methods will no longer work. Leading the Charge is a visionary leadership book that examines the trends that have reshaped our world and the ways in which visionary leaders and organizations can effectively respond. Tomorrow's successful leaders--in all fields, including the military, academia, politics, and business--must know how to create, operate, and thrive in very fluid, flattened, and integrated structures that are remarkably different from the traditional organizations we are used to seeing. They will have to manage rapidly changing technology and flows of information, and create faster and more far-reaching spans of control. Leading the Charge shows the way, and is an incisive and compelling guide to the new world of leadership, one that will prove indispensable for years to come. Organized around "Leading a New World," a revolutionary leadership course General Zinni developed and taught at the Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy at Duke University, Leading the Charge makes a convincing case that leaders must . . . - change with the times to be relevant. - be ready for crisis mode at any given time. - have a moral compass and the ability to steer the company in the right direction. - be forward thinking, not reactive, to provide innovation and creativity. - develop great leaders.

Book excerpt: The way people buy has gone through a massive revolution in recent years: thanks to blogs, review sites and chat rooms, we no longer have to rely on what a company says about its products and services - we can read what our fellow consumers think about what they've bought, and make our own decisions bearing those views in minds. The result? Empowered customers who know exactly what they want and who can now explore many ways to get it. Many companies, however, just won't accept that things have changed and haven't adjusted their marketing efforts to match. In Crowd Surfing, David Brain and Martin Thomas explain what marketers, advertisers and brand specialists need to do to communicate with today's savvier consumers. They include case studies of successes and failures from the business world and beyond, and interview leaders such as Michael Dell and Sebastian Coe to help illustrate their points.

Book Reimagining Shakespeare s Playhouse

Download or read book Reimagining Shakespeare s Playhouse written by Joe Falocco and published by Boydell & Brewer. This book was released on 2010 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerous attempts have been made in the modern and postmodern era to recreate the staging conventions of Shakespeare's theatre, from William Poel to the founders of the New Globe. This volume examines the work of these directors, analyzing their practical successes and failures; it also engages with the ideological critiques of early modern staging advanced by scholars such as W.B. Worthen and Ric Knowles. The author argues that rather than indulging in archaism for its own sake, the movement looked backward in a progressive attempt to address the challenges of the twentieth century. The book begins with a re-examination of the conventional view of Poel as an antiquarian crank. Subsequent chapters are devoted to Harley Granville Barker and Nugent Monck; the author argues that while Barker's major contribution was the dubious achievement of establishing the movement's reputation as an essentially literary phenomenon, Monck took the first tentative steps toward an architectural reimagining of modern performance space, an advance which led to later triumphs in early modern staging. The book than traces the sporadic and irregular development of Tyrone Guthrie's commitment to early modern practices. The final chapter looks at how competing historical theories of playhouse design influenced the construction of the Globe, while the conclusion discusses the ongoing potential of early modern staging in the new millennium.

Book Outlearning the Wolves

Download or read book Outlearning the Wolves written by David Hutchens and published by Leverage Networks, Inc. This book was released on 2000 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Outlearning the Wolves 3rd Edition: Surviving and Thriving in a Learning Organization Robert Fritz calls this fable a true classic that demonstrates how "a good story can be one of the best sources of profound change." Now available in 11 languages; the book continues to find new audiences and win the hearts of those who embrace its lessons. Yet; it’s fair to say that the central message of this deceptively simple tale is almost as radical today as it was when Pegasus first published it 10 years ago. As Fritz observes; it is still the rare organization that appreciates the insight that the sheep in the story discover: Individual learning; good as it is; does not necessarily translate into organizational learning. The learning must become collective." That’s why this book continues to be such an important resource for innovators determined to confront the wolves of complacency in their organizations by stimulating people’s natural desire to creatively improve their results together.
