Book Tabulated Stress Intensity Factors for Corner Cracks at Holes Under Stress Gradients

Download or read book Tabulated Stress Intensity Factors for Corner Cracks at Holes Under Stress Gradients written by AF. Grandt and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this paper is to present stress-intensity factors, K, for corner cracks at holes in a tabulated format which can be used to calculate K for general stress fields. Stress-intensity factors were obtained with the weight function method for various stress gradients and crack sizes. The paper also describes a superposition procedure to generate K for general stress distributions by using the data presented. This tabulated information is intended to expand the existing database of reference stress-intensity factors. Results were compared with other published solutions in order to evaluate the analysis procedure. In general, the difference between solutions was within 10%.

Book excerpt: Aircraft Sustainment and Repair is a one-stop-shop for practitioners and researchers in the field of aircraft sustainment, adhesively bonded aircraft joints, bonded composites repairs, and the application of cold spray to military and civil aircraft. Outlining the state-of-the-art in aircraft sustainment, this book covers the use of quantitative fractography to determine the in-service crack length versus flight hours curve, the effect of intergranular cracking on structural integrity and the structural significance of corrosion. The book additionally illustrates the potential of composite repairs and SPD applications to metallic airframes. Covers corrosion damage assessment and management in aircraft structures Includes a key chapter on U.S. developments in the emerging field of supersonic particle deposition (SPD) Shows how to design and assess the potential benefits of both bonded composite repairs and SPD repairs to metallic aircraft structures to meet the damage tolerance requirements inherent in FAA ac 20-107b and the U.S. Joint Services

Book Stress Intensity Factors for Surface and Corner Cracked Fastener Holes by the Weight Function Method

Download or read book Stress Intensity Factors for Surface and Corner Cracked Fastener Holes by the Weight Function Method written by W. Zhao and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper presents stress intensity factor solutions for surface and corner-cracked fastener holes by using an efficient and accurate three-dimensional weight function method. The approach is briefly described. Stress intensity factors for crack-face pressure loads of the type (x/r)n are provided, where n varies from 0 to 4. The geometry parameters considered are as follows: the ratio of the hole radius to plate thickness r/T = 1.5 (T = t for corner cracks, T = 2t for surface cracks); the crack aspect ratio a/c = 0.5, 1, and 1.5; the ratio of crack depth-to-plate thickness a/t = 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5. Based on the given solutions and the superposition principle, stress intensity factors for other load cases may be easily obtained. Examples are given for remote tension, biaxial tension, wedge loading in the hole, and simulated pin loading. Also, the effect of the residual stress field following cold expansion is considered for the remote tension loading condition.

Book Analysis of Corner Cracks at Hole by a 3 D Weight Function Method with Stresses from Finite Element Method

Download or read book Analysis of Corner Cracks at Hole by a 3 D Weight Function Method with Stresses from Finite Element Method written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-11-03 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stress intensity factors for quarter-elliptical corner cracks emanating from a circular hole are determined using a 3-D weight function method combined with a 3-D finite element method. The 3-D finite element method is used to analyze uncracked configuration and provide stress distribution in the region where crack is to occur. Using this stress distribution as input, the 3-D weight function method is used to determine stress intensity factors. Three different loading conditions, i.e. remote tension, remote bending and wedge loading, are considered for a wide range in geometrical parameters. The significance in using 3-D uncracked stress distribution and the difference between single and double corner cracks are studied. Typical crack opening displacements are also provided. Comparisons are made with solutions available in the literature. Zhao, W. and Newman, J. C., Jr. and Sutton, M. A. and Wu, X. R. and Shivakumar, K. N. Langley Research Center...

Book Stress intensity Factors for Two Symmetric Corner Cracks

Download or read book Stress intensity Factors for Two Symmetric Corner Cracks written by JC. Newman and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The literature contains several analytical and experimental evaluations of Mode I stress-intensity factors for corner cracks at holes in plates subjected to remote tension, remote bending, or pin loading in the hole. Unfortunately, these solutions give very different stress-intensity factors for the same crack configuration and loading.

Book Transition of Corner Cracks at Holes Into Through The Thickness Cracks

Download or read book Transition of Corner Cracks at Holes Into Through The Thickness Cracks written by S. W. Opel and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study developed correction factors for currently used stress intensity factor equations to more accurately predict stress intensity factors for a corner crack emanating from a hole as it transitions to a uniform through-the-thickness crack. These correction factors resulted in an approximate 15 percent increase in total life prediction and a far better correlation between analytical stress intensity factor predictions and experimental results in the transition region. The material used for total life predictions was 7075-T651 Aluminum, and the initial crack eccentricity, a/c, was always greater than one.

Book Stress Intensity Factor for a Corner Crack at the Edge of a Hole in a Plate

Download or read book Stress Intensity Factor for a Corner Crack at the Edge of a Hole in a Plate written by SS. Palusamy and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A corner-cracked hole in a plate, subjected to remote tension loading, is one of the three benchmark problems identified for the validation of three-dimensional techniques at the workshop held in Battelle Columbus Laboratories. Stress-intensity factor results for the case of circular corner crack obtained by the macroelement technique is presented in this paper. Results for the remote tension loading are compared with those obtained by the boundary-integral equation (BIE) method and three-dimensional finite-element technique based on singular elements.
