Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the newly revised Twelfth Edition of Physics: Volume 2, an accomplished team of physicists and educators delivers an accessible and rigorous approach to the skills students need to succeed in physics education. Readers will learn to understand foundational physics concepts, solve common physics problems, and see real-world applications of the included concepts to assist in retention and learning. The text includes Check Your Understanding questions, Math Skills boxes, multi-concept problems, and worked examples. The second volume of a two-volume set, Volume 2 explores ideas and concepts like the reflection, refraction, and wave-particle duality of light. Throughout, students knowledge is tested with concept and calculation problems and team exercises that focus on cooperation and learning.

Download or read book Collected Papers written by H. A. Lorenz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the important work which the late Professor H.A. Lorentz did to develop Maxwell's theory in the years before his middle age. It begins with the treatise concerning the relation be tween the propagation of light and the density of media. The Lorenz Lorentz formula is arrived at (page 57) and an electromagnetic dispersion theory of light is developed (p. 70, Bo) for the first time, so far as we know. This work was finished as early as I878: in an abridged form the results were published in Wiedemann's An nalen der Physik und Chemie (9, 64I, I88o); until now the com plete treatise was only accessible in the Dutch language. In the following dozen years the development of Maxwell's theory was carried further and the result was the paper published in I892, which is found in the end of the volume. The work of Boltz mann and Hertz dates from the same period. Lorentz took the view that matter was perfectly permeable to the ether and that the latter was invariably at rest. Still, after Hertz published his theory based on the idea that the ether contained in moving bodies completely shared the motion, Lorentz inserted a chapter developing the inferences to be drawn from this axiom (p. 206) which was contradictory to the line he followed himself in order to account for Fresnel's coefficient.

Download or read book Refractive Indices of Solids written by Stepan S. Batsanov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-10 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the basics of crystal optics methods and refractive index (RI) measurement techniques in various solids, as well as their scientific and technological applications. In addition to new techniques for cases when traditional techniques are impractical, such as for highly refracting powders, anomalous dispersion of light in the studied solid, or for colloids, it also describes conventional methods of RI measurement.

Download or read book International Tables for Crystallography Mathematical Physical and Chemical Tables written by E. Prince and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2004-01-16 with total page 1043 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Tables for Crystallography is the definitive resource and reference work for crystallography and structural science. Each of the volumes in the series contains articles and tables of data relevant to crystallographic research and to applications of crystallographic methods in all sciences concerned with the structure and properties of materials. Emphasis is given to symmetry, diffraction methods and techniques of crystal-structure determination, and the physical and chemical properties of crystals. The data are accompanied by discussions of theory, practical explanations and examples, all of which are useful for teaching. Volume C provides the mathematical, physical and chemical information needed for experimental studies in structural crystallography. This volume covers all aspects of experimental techniques, using all three principal radiation types (X-ray, electron and neutron), from the selection and mounting of crystals and production of radiation, through data collection and analysis, to interpretation of results. Each chapter is supported by a substantial collection of references, and the volume ends with a section on precautions against radiation injury. Eleven chapters have been revised, corrected or updated for the third edition of Volume C. More information on the series can be found at: http://it.iucr.org
