LaRosa and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1996-04 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discusses the strides that have been made in the identification and treatment of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) with an armament of powerful technologies and drugs. A goal of minimizing time to diagnosis and treatment of AMI patients was identified. Efforts to meet the goal were also determined and examined. Includes: rapid identification and treatment at emergency care facilities, prehospital management of AMI, public education programs, legislative considerations, present and future hospital management decisions, and more. 50 graphs, charts and tables.

Download or read book Sixth Biennial Conference of the European Society for Engineering and Medicine written by European Society for Engineering and Medicine. Conference and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European Society for Engineering and Medicine is representative of both the engineering and medicine communities, with membership drawn across Europe. The aim of the society is to provide a bridge between the two communities to facilitate engineering solutions to medical problems. The ESEM 2001 conference had a real-world focus and scientific papers were selected on the basis of their clinical application. Contributors at the conference were worldwide to reflect the global relevance and significance of the topics. The papers reflect the three main tracks of the conference: health information systems; bioengineering; and medical instrumentation and imaging. Within each of these areas there are a number of sub-themes on a diverse range of topics, such as: tissue engineering and artificial organs; computers in medicine; and biomedical processing and modelling. This volume is a record of the oral and poster presentations made at the conference, with an overview of the conference structure and a list of keynote speakers.

Download or read book Electrocardiography and Cardiac Drug Therapy written by Vinzenz Hombach and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive overview of electrocardiography and the major effects of current cardiac pharmacological therapy on electrocardiography. The text is based on work presented at the International Symposium on Non-invasive Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Therapy, held in May, 1987 at the University of Cologne. The theme of the book is to review, in broad clinical perspective the current state-of-the-art of electrocardiography as it pertains to standard electrocar diograms, exercise testing, ambulatory electrocardiography, electrocardiographic telemetry, and high resolution electrocardiography. Furthermore, advance!, in cardiac drug therapy in relation to diuretics, beta blocking drugs, antiarrhythmic agents and thrombolytic agents are reviewed. The emphasis of the conference and this book is to review the clinical state-of-the-art information and applications in this regard. In the initial section on electrocardiography, Dr. Spodick reviews our present day physiologic and pathophysiologic understanding of systolic time intervals, and how they are affected by a variety of cardiac disease states and pharmacologic agents. Dr. Ellestad examines problems and provides pragmatic tips on exercise testing in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease, and advances in exercise scores and computer analysis. Dr. Graboys reviews the value of exercise testing in the diagnosis and management of patients with serious ventricular arrhythmias. Dr. Kellermann presents the complimentary role that exercise testing plays in com prehensive follow-up therapy of the cardiac patient, and the use of exercise for work and physical training. Detailed information concerning the interaction of cardiac rehabilitation and ventricular arrhythmias are examined.

This book was released on 2009-04-29 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past 50 years have witnessed a breathtaking evolution in the approaches to the patient with an acute ST elevation myocardial infarction. In the 1960s, the now commonplace cardiac intensive care unit was but a nascent idea. Without much to offer the patient but weeks of absolute bedrest, substantial morbidity and high rates of mortality were the norm. Just 30 years ago, seminal discoveries by DeWood and colleagues suggested that the culprit was plaque rupture with thrombosis, not progressive luminal compromise. Subsequent fibrinolyt- based strategies resulted in a halving of the mortality of acute myocardial infarction. With the introduction of balloon angioplasty in the late 1970s, a few interventional cardiologists braved the question: why not perform emergency angioplasty as a primary reperfusion strategy? Indeed, reports of successful reperfusion via balloon angioplasty appeared (mostly in local newspapers) as early as 1980. Despite being thought of as heretical by mainstream cardiology, these pioneers nonetheless persevered, proving the benefit of ‘‘state-of-the-art’’ balloon angioplasty compared with ‘‘state-of-t- art’’ thrombolytic therapy in a series of landmark trials published in the New England Journal of Medicine in March of 1993. Publication of the first edition of Primary Angioplasty in Acute Myocardial Infarction in 2002 to some extent anticipated the widespread acceptance of primary percutaneous coronary intervention as the standard of care. Since then, in all respects, the evolution of emergency percutaneous revascularization has only accelerated. The universal replacement of balloon angioplasty with stent implantation was clearly one key.
