Book Addition Elimination and Substitution Markovnikov Hofmann Zaitsev and Walden

Download or read book Addition Elimination and Substitution Markovnikov Hofmann Zaitsev and Walden written by David E. Lewis and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2022-07-01 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addition, Elimination and Substitution: Markovnikov, Hofmann, Zaitsev and Walden: Discovery and Development discusses foundational reactions in organic chemistry and their major protagonists, contributions to synthesis, and history. Hofmann, Zaitsev, and Markovnikov are introduced, along with their major discoveries and contributions to organic chemistry. The history of controversies around Markovnikov’s Rule are addressed. The book introduces Walden’s original demonstration of configuration inversion, then discusses bimolecular elimination reactions, regioselective addition reactions, regiospecific alkene synthesis, and the development of modern reactions with configuration inversion. With its unique perspective, focus, and comprehensive coverage, this book belongs on the shelf of every organic chemist. Introduces Markovnikov, Zaitsev, Hofmann, and Walden as actual persons, rather than just an abstract term used as a form of short-hand to describe the rules Discusses, in depth, the discovery and usage of these reactions and rules, from their discovery to their most recent applications Includes biographical materials about chemists responsible for major changes in application of the rules Traces the history of the applications of these reactions, e.g., anti-Markovnikov additions in catalytic organic synthesis, and reactions such as the Mitsunobu reaction improving the original SN2 displacement

Book Strategies and Tactics in Organic Synthesis

Download or read book Strategies and Tactics in Organic Synthesis written by Thomas Lindberg and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 565 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strategies and Tactics in Organic Synthesis, Volume 3 provides detailed accounts of interesting advances in the field of synthesis. This book discusses the tasks of multistep synthesis from finding the proper reagents, reaction, and conditions for individual steps to inventing new chemistry to fill gaps in existing synthetic methodology. Organized into 13 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the development of redox glycosidation strategy through ester methylenation. This text then examines the development of computer-assisted molecular modeling with applications to a wide range of problems in biological and organic chemistry. Other chapters consider the medicinal significance of ginkgo tree, which has prompted systematic studies to correlate the claimed beneficial effects of its extracts to the active principles. This book discusses as well the biological potency of pentacyclic quassinoids. The final chapter deals with the economic synthesis of a penem antibacterial. This book is a valuable resource for chemists.

Book Studies in Natural Products Chemistry

Download or read book Studies in Natural Products Chemistry written by Atta-ur Rahman and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-12-03 with total page 1365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural Products Chemistry continues to grow at an increasing pace and this growth is reflected in the present volume of Studies in Natural Products Chemistry, which is the 20th of this series. The first 20 volumes were largely devoted to structure and synthesis of various classes of natural products, irrespective of their bioactivity. Subsequent volumes of this series will however be devoted to the chemistry of bioactive natural products and will therefore a departure from the earlier volumes. The present volume contains contributions from a number of eminent scientists and covers interesting reviews on terpenes, alkaloids and other types of natural products reported from terrestrial and marine sources. Comprehensive indexes covering all the 20 volumes have been prepared which include a Cumulative General Subject Index along with more focused Cumulative Indices on Organic Synthesis, Pharmacological Activity and Biological Source. This comprehensive indexing of the volumes should make the entire series much more valuable and user-friendly.

Book Antimalarial Natural Products

Download or read book Antimalarial Natural Products written by A. Douglas Kinghorn and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-02 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume begins with a short history of malaria and follows with a summary of its biology. It then traces the fascinating history of the discovery of quinine for malaria treatment, and then describes quinine’s biosynthesis, its mechanism of action, and its clinical use, concluding with a discussion of synthetic antimalarial agents based on quinine’s structure. It also covers the discovery of artemisinin and its development as the source of the most effective current antimalarial drug, including summaries of its synthesis and biosynthesis, its mechanism of action, and its clinical use and resistance. A short discussion of other clinically used antimalarial natural products leads to a detailed treatment of additional natural products with significant antiplasmodial activity, classified by compound type. Although the search for new antimalarial natural products from Nature’s combinatorial library is challenging, it is very likely to yield new antimalarial drugs. This book thus ends by identifying ten natural products with development potential as clinical antimalarial agents.
