Book Synthesis of Azo Dyes for Use in Dye sensitized Solar Cells

Download or read book Synthesis of Azo Dyes for Use in Dye sensitized Solar Cells written by Marsha Grimminger and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the increase in fossil fuel costs and the limitability of readily available reserves, the need for research in renewable energy sources is crucial. Organic solar cells can be a convenient and low-cost approach to harvesting solar energy using readily available and often recyclable materials. Traditional silicon solar cells have shown high reliability, but installation costs are prohibitive. Dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are a promising alternative at a fraction of the cost. DSSCs use dyes with high quantum efficiency adsorbed on a titanium dioxide film to absorb light and transfer electrons. The dye is regenerated by a counter electrode and electrolyte, improving device stability. Our group has been exploring inexpensive, soluble, light stable azo dyes used in the textile industry for light absorption. Our goal is to generate solution processable DSSCs which can be spray painted directly on a roof or large area surface. By making device fabrication inexpensive, we decrease the need for high power conversion efficiency (PCE). Traditional silicon cells have a PCE around 13% which has been matched by DSSCs with carefully designed dyes. The synthesis, electronics, and solar cell device characteristics of several azo dyes will be presented.

Book Synthesis of Novel Chalcogenopyrylium Dyes for Dye sensitised Solar Cells

Download or read book Synthesis of Novel Chalcogenopyrylium Dyes for Dye sensitised Solar Cells written by Chi Wing Szeto and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Novel chalcogenopyrylium dyes for dye-sensitized solar cells were synthesized, including monomethine dyes with different chalcogenopyrylium cores, dyes with phosphonate or symmetrical carboxylic acid anchoring groups, and dyes with electron-donating triphenylamine and N, N-dimethylphenylamine moieties. The synthetic strategy for chalcogenopyrylium dyes is to generate the key chalcogenopyranone intermediate initially, followed by condensation with 4-methylpyrylium dyes. The reactive anchoring carboxylic acid group was protected in the synthesis by an ethyl ester and the deprotection method of these dyes is developed in this thesis.

Book Biological Approaches in Dye Containing Wastewater

Download or read book Biological Approaches in Dye Containing Wastewater written by Ali Khadir and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-03-30 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The textile industry segment has been continuously expanding and it is reported that the global market was US$1000 billion in 2020. Aside from the fact that textile industry could be profitable and offers several advantages for human life, this industry produces wastewater containing many harmful substances in the form of organic and inorganic moieties. Textile wastewater can lead to serious environmental problems if discharged without treatment. In this first volume of the application of biological mechanisms, processes and units are reviewed in terms of dye degradation and removal. The role of biodegradation, bioaccumulation and biosorption in bio-decolorization are discussed. The book starts with highlighting the fundamentals of aerobic and anaerobic mechanisms having different configurations. The moving bed bioreactor (MBBR), up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket reactors, sequential aerobic/anaerobic batch reactors, membrane bioreactor, etc are also covered in this edition.

Book Dyes and Pigments

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ahmet Gürses
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2016-05-04
  • ISBN : 3319338927
  • Pages : 88 pages

Download or read book Dyes and Pigments written by Ahmet Gürses and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-04 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the authors go back to basics to describe the structural differences between dyes and pigments, their mechanisms of action, properties and applications. They set the scene by explaining the reasons behind these differences and show how dyes are predominately organic compounds that dissolve or react with substrates, whereas pigments are (predominantly) finely ground inorganic substances that are insoluble and therefore have a different mode of coloring. They also describe the role of functional groups and their effect on dyeing ability, contrasting this with the way in which pigments cause surface reflection (or light absorption) depending on their chemical and crystalline structure and relative particle size. The book explores the environmental impact of dyes in a section that covers the physical, chemical, toxicological, and ecological properties of dyes and how these are used to assess their effect on the environment and to estimate whether a given product presents a potential hazard. Lastly, it assesses how, in addition to their traditional uses in the textile, leather, paper, paint and varnish industries, dyes and pigments are indispensable in other fields such as microelectronics, medical diagnostics, and in information recording techniques.
