Book Bifurcation and Symmetry

Download or read book Bifurcation and Symmetry written by BÖHMER and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Symmetry is a property which occurs throughout nature and it is therefore natural that symmetry should be considered when attempting to model nature. In many cases, these models are also nonlinear and it is the study of nonlinear symmetric models that has been the basis of much recent work. Although systematic studies of nonlinear problems may be traced back at least to the pioneering contributions of Poincare, this remains an area with challenging problems for mathematicians and scientists. Phenomena whose models exhibit both symmetry and nonlinearity lead to problems which are challenging and rich in complexity, beauty and utility. In recent years, the tools provided by group theory and representation theory have proven to be highly effective in treating nonlinear problems involving symmetry. By these means, highly complex situations may be decomposed into a number of simpler ones which are already understood or are at least easier to handle. In the realm of numerical approximations, the systematic exploitation of symmetry via group repre sentation theory is even more recent. In the hope of stimulating interaction and acquaintance with results and problems in the various fields of applications, bifurcation theory and numerical analysis, we organized the conference and workshop Bifurcation and Symmetry: Cross Influences between Mathematics and Applications during June 2-7,8-14, 1991 at the Philipps University of Marburg, Germany.

Book The Symmetry Perspective

Download or read book The Symmetry Perspective written by Martin Golubitsky and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The framework of ‘symmetry’ provides an important route between the abstract theory and experimental observations. The book applies symmetry methods to dynamical systems, focusing on bifurcation and chaos theory. Its exposition is organized around a wide variety of relevant applications. From the reviews: "[The] rich collection of examples makes the book...extremely useful for motivation and for spreading the ideas to a large Community."--MATHEMATICAL REVIEWS

Book Bifurcation Theory

    Book Details:
  • Author : Hansjörg Kielhöfer
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2006-04-10
  • ISBN : 0387216332
  • Pages : 355 pages

Download or read book Bifurcation Theory written by Hansjörg Kielhöfer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-10 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past three decades, bifurcation theory has matured into a well-established and vibrant branch of mathematics. This book gives a unified presentation in an abstract setting of the main theorems in bifurcation theory, as well as more recent and lesser known results. It covers both the local and global theory of one-parameter bifurcations for operators acting in infinite-dimensional Banach spaces, and shows how to apply the theory to problems involving partial differential equations. In addition to existence, qualitative properties such as stability and nodal structure of bifurcating solutions are treated in depth. This volume will serve as an important reference for mathematicians, physicists, and theoretically-inclined engineers working in bifurcation theory and its applications to partial differential equations.

Book Non Local Cell Adhesion Models

Download or read book Non Local Cell Adhesion Models written by Andreas Buttenschön and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-06-09 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph considers the mathematical modeling of cellular adhesion, a key interaction force in cell biology. While deeply grounded in the biological application of cell adhesion and tissue formation, this monograph focuses on the mathematical analysis of non-local adhesion models. The novel aspect is the non-local term (an integral operator), which accounts for forces generated by long ranged cell interactions. The analysis of non-local models has started only recently, and it has become a vibrant area of applied mathematics. This monograph contributes a systematic analysis of steady states and their bifurcation structure, combining global bifurcation results pioneered by Rabinowitz, equivariant bifurcation theory, and the symmetries of the non-local term. These methods allow readers to analyze and understand cell adhesion on a deep level.

Book Global Solution Curves for Semilinear Elliptic Equations

Download or read book Global Solution Curves for Semilinear Elliptic Equations written by Philip Korman and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2012 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an introduction to the bifurcation theory approach to global solution curves and studies the exact multiplicity of solutions for semilinear Dirichlet problems, aiming to obtain a complete understanding of the solution set. This understanding opens the way to efficient computation of all solutions. Detailed results are obtained in case of circular domains, and some results for general domains are also presented. The author is one of the original contributors to the field of exact multiplicity results.
