Book Symbols Meaning and The Sacred Quest

Download or read book Symbols Meaning and The Sacred Quest written by Andrew Cort and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2011-11-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fed up with Violence, Hatred, and Bigotry? In a world where religious differences often trigger hatred and violence, here is a book that celebrates the Beauty, Decency, Wisdom and Unity of all our traditions. The real purpose of religion is not to supply a questionable historical narrative, or to teach moral rules that no one can follow, or to command its followers to believe a lot of fantastic claims that defy all scientific logic. The REAL purpose of religion is to present a great Wisdom Teaching -- through Allegory, Symbol and Metaphor -- that teaches our souls the inner psychological and spiritual steps that must be taken to achieve spiritual awakening and communion with Divinity. The "Return to the Promised Land", for example, is a symbolic elucidation of the soul's return from inner material slavery (called "Egypt") to spiritual freedom and enlightenment (called "Canaan"). Along the path there are many steps, many adventures, many trials, and many joys. The different ways that the story is shared by different religions and different cultures is a testament to the magnificent human imagination! But the underlying commonality of meaning and purpose that unites the stories, the cultures, and us, is even more striking! What will SYMBOLS, MEANING, AND THE SACRED QUEST do for YOU? * It will reveal the hidden method of SPIRITUAL AWAKENING that lies buried in the ancient stories; * It will open your Heart to deeper levels of TRUST, UNDERSTANDING and COMPASSION; * It will give you hours of ENTERTAINMENT and PLEASURE as you discover and rediscover the spellbinding tales and legends from around the world - and read them with fresh eyes and ears!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the past four or five years much of my thinking has centered up on the relationship of symbolic forms to philosophic imagination and interpretation. As one whose own philosophic speculations began at. the end of a cultural epoch under methodologies dominated either by neo-Kantianism or schools of logical empiricism the symbol as a prod uct of a cultural imagination has been diminished; it has been neces sary for those who wanted to preserve the symbol to find appropriate philosophical methodologies to do so. In the following chapters we shall attempt to show, through a consideration of a series of recent interpretations of the symbol, as well as through constructive argu ment, that the symbol ought to be considered as a linguistic form in the sense that it constitutes a special language with its own rubrics and properties. There are two special considerations to be taken ac count of in this argument; first, the definition of the symbol, and sec ond, the interpretation of the symbol. Although we shall refrain from defining the symbol explicitly at this point let it suffice to state that our definition of the symbol is more aesthetic than logical (in the technical sense of formal logic ), more cultural than individual, more imaginative than scientific. The symbol in our view is somewhere at the center of culture, the well-spring which testifies to the human imagination in its poetic, psychic, religious, social and political forms.

Download or read book Love Wisdom and God written by Andrew Cort and published by Createspace Indie Pub Platform. This book was released on 2010-08-02 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Morality, as secularists know, does not require a deity. Blind faith, as atheists know, often leads to hatred, violence and war. Taking myth and scripture as literal accounts of history, as scientists know, borders on the nonsensical. If religion is to be credible for modern, educated, sophisticated people, there has to be more. And there is. In LOVE, WISDOM, AND GOD, Dr. Andrew Cort demonstrates that in their deepest and most important sense, these are internal, psychological stories. Through allegory and symbol they weave the tale of a soul that has descended into material life and must now do the necessary work to find its way home again. This inner journey, the basis for all 'Sacred Quest' legends, has been called "Persephone's Return to Olympus," "The Return to the Promised Land," "The Quest for the Holy Grail," and many other names. In other words, Mythology and Scripture can be read as manuals for spiritual initiation. When this is understood: The underlying unity of all our traditions is revealed. The atheist objection that the stories are irrational becomes irrelevant. The justification for religious hatred and war disappears.

Unique among Jean Klein's works, the dialogues contained in this book have been organised by subject. Topics include: Relationship; The Nature of Thinking; The Art of Listening; A conversation on Art, etc. Questioner: “In certain situations in life I feel blocked by a fear which prevents me from acting. How can I be free from this obstacle?” Jean Klein: “First free yourself from the word, the concept, "fear." It is loaded with memory. Face only the perception. Accept the sensation completely. When the personality who judges and controls is completely absent, when there is no longera psychological relationship with the sensation, it is really welcomed and unfolds. Only in welcoming without a welcomer can ther be real transformation. “We are in essence one with all existence; when we truly observe ourselves there is ultimately no observer, only observation--awareness.”
