Book Syllabus and Manual of Physical Training for Public Schools

Download or read book Syllabus and Manual of Physical Training for Public Schools written by Laurence Samuel Hill and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-26 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Syllabus and Manual of Physical Training for Public Schools This book is the outcome of the experience of the author in nine years' work as instructor and director of physical training in public schools. In -the preparation of the manuscript valuable suggestions and ideas of organization and arrangement of material were received from workers in the same field and from the many excellent syllabi now used in various city school systems. The object in presenting the work is to give teachers a guide for classroom exercises and concrete examples of required work in physical training with instructions and explanations necessary to make clear interpretations of subject matter. Adequate material is offered and arranged to comply with the New York State requirements in physical training B, D and E. Especial attention is called to the explanations of movements of the different parts of the body; recreation drills; graded lessons; athletic periods for boys and girls; imaginary plays, and games. Attention should also be called to the fact that habits of regular exercise and of personal cleanliness are health measures and are essential parts of any program for the health education of school children. As the direct result of carrying out this course in physical training children will acquire the health habits taught. We can examine each child to find out if the exercises are practiced regularly at home; if the talks on personal cleanliness are bearing fruit in the improvement of the child's personal appearance; and if the-habit of walking and sitting in correct position is becoming fixed. Valuable assistance in the preparation of this manual was rendered by Dr. Horatio M. Pollock and Miss Ruth Slocum, and expert criticism was kindly given by Dr. Thomas A. Storey, Inspector of Physical Training, New York State. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The editor has essayed to compile from the com plex and technical army manual a set Of regulations suitable for use In Public Schools. The erect carriage and the precision of move ment Of the soldier appeal strongly to children. Book Manual of Exercises in Physical Training Vol 1 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Manual of Exercises in Physical Training Vol 1 Classic Reprint written by Carl Ziegler and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-31 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of Exercises in Physical Training, Vol. 1 Since those who do the actual teaching are the ones who should understand the needs and conditions best, all the members of the Physical Training Department were called in conference. This book embodies many features suggested by their experience. It is only when we attain correct and energetic execution on the part of the pupils, when teachers and pupils alike have grasped the purpose of each exercise, so as to be able to detect and correct faulty execution, that we may hope for those results which alone justify teaching this subject. In order that the greatest possible good may accrue to the pupils, the teachers must thoroughly acquaint themselves with the subject matter. The Instructions to Teachers, the descriptions of the exercises, the manner of giving commands, as well as the lessons which are to be given, must be carefully studied. Teachers must also observe closely the work of the special teachers, and learn the best methods of giving a gymnastic lesson. In this way they will learn to use to the best possible advantage the limited time allowed this subject. The lessons must be memorized so that they can be given without reference to the book. There must be a regular time in the daily program for the exercises, and at this time the complete lesson should be given. The conditions under which the work is conducted in the regular class room are not altogether favorable. For this reason the success of the lesson will depend largely upon the attitude of the class teacher. The fidelity and faithful cooperation of the teachers and those in charge of the schools will determine the results attained. This manual contains fifty lessons, each of which is intended to be for two weeks. Each grade will use twenty lessons, as follows. This book was released on 2017-05-27 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Physical Training for Boys and Girls: For Use by Public-School Teachers, Parents, and the Superintendents, of Junior Societies in Churches Tms book is not an argument for strengthening our belief in the efficiency of physical training; rather, it is a short manual which will guide us to some of the best methods of developing the boy and girl. We already have faith in gym nasties and athletics, in games and plays, in competitive sports; but, having nailed our flag to the mast, let us now stand by our guns and protect the boy and the girl by so developing them morally and physically that their own bodies, their own minds, and the ideals that impel them to every voluntary act of life will form a bulwark against the slings and arrows that will assail them throughout their lives. The boy and girl will never get along better by being neglected, they will certainly be well armored and forewarned if they are trained early. Book Syllabus for Physical Education in the Schools of Rhode Island Classic Reprint

Download or read book Syllabus for Physical Education in the Schools of Rhode Island Classic Reprint written by Gertrude Bradley Manchester and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-05 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Syllabus for Physical Education in the Schools of Rhode Island A similar public policy was evidenced in the statute, en acted ih 1917, that authorizes school committees to establish and maintain at public expense clinics for the remedying of dental de fects and the treatment of the teeth of school children whose parents, after notice, neglect to take action. The law requiring physical edu cation was requested ih petitions addressed to the State Board of Education, which were signed by hundreds of persons professing an interest in the welfare of school children. There could be no serious question that a popular demand for physical educationexisted. The movement was promoted particularly by the Rhode Island Branch of the National Congress of Mothers and Parent Teacher Associations. A bill was prepared in the office of the Com missioner of Public Schools, and it was introduced in the General Assembly by the Honorable James M. Armstrong, Senator from East Providence and Chairman of the Committee on Education. The law requires that every child over eight years of age who is attending any school, or who is being educated privately, shall re ceive instruction and practice in physical training, under such regu lations as the State Board of Education may prescribe or approve, during periods which shall average at least twenty minutes in each school day. To the teachers of the public and private schools of Rhode Island is entrusted the duty and responsibility of carrying this salutary legislation into effect - a duty and responsibility that should be met with the conscientious care and public spirit which characterize Rhode Island teachers. The essential and fundamental requirement of the law is twenty minutes of instruction or directed exercise for every child during every school day. This requirement must be met in school and in school time. This Syllabus for Physical Education has been prepared for the purpose of guiding teachers in meeting the requirements of the new law, and it presents a course of instruction planned to cover the eight grades of elementary schools and the four years of high schools. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Koehler's West Point Manual of Disciplinary Physical Training This manual is based upon the experience gathered in this work at the United States Mili tary Academy during a period extending over more than a generation, and upon the direct personal application of the results of this experience to approximately men in our new Army, of whom were aspirants for commissions. In general, the manual is a revision of Special Regulations, No. 23, Field Training of the Soldier, a syllabus prepared by the author, and published by the War Department, -by the direction of the Secretary of War, making it mandatory upon all to carry out this work in the service in accordance with these special regulations.
