This book was released on 2005-06-10 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2005 Article IV Consultation highlights that the Swiss economy has returned to growth with supportive external demand and domestic policies. However, the recovery has been fragile, and business indicators suggest that activity is currently experiencing a soft patch. The IMF staff projects growth of 11⁄4 percent in 2005, from 1.7 percent in 2004, with some risks on the downside if demand from partner countries were to falter. Potential growth is estimated at 11⁄2 percent and is projected to decline in the medium term to 3⁄4 percent as a result of population aging.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Iceland’s 2008 Article IV Consultation shows that the long expansion is coming to an end, exposing the economy’s overstretched private sector balance sheets, large macroeconomic imbalances, and high dependence on foreign financing. With external liquidity constraints binding, economic activity is expected to slow significantly from unsustainably high levels, inflation to remain well above target, and the current account to narrow. Uncertainty surrounding the outlook is unusually large, dominated by significant downside risks, both external and domestic.

Book What Drives Prices in Egypt

Download or read book What Drives Prices in Egypt written by Hanaa Kheir-El-Din and published by American University in Cairo Press. This book was released on 2009-10-01 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 2004, economic reforms in Egypt have led to robust expansion, a healthy external position, and enhanced investor confidence. But despite these positive macroeconomic developments, inflation has been steadily rising. Does fiscal policy threaten price stability? Does wage growth in the Egyptian economy lead price inflation, or is it the reverse? In this volume, these and other questions are examined by contributors who participated in a conference held in Cairo in late 2007. Here is a coherent and comprehensive analysis of the factors driving prices in Egypt, in an attempt to find a satisfactory balance between prices and economic growth. While Egypt is the focus of the analysis, the papers draw upon the relevant literature, and international experience, the findings can be applied to other middle-income economies. This timely study helps to explain the complex issues facing economists and policymakers, with proposals for reform. Contributors: Hala Abou-Ali, Hala Fares, Omneia A. Helmy, Alaa Ibrahim, Hanaa Kheir-El-Din, Rania Al-Mashat, Diaa Noureldin, Klaus Schmidt-Hebbel, and Sherine Al-Shawarby.

Progress in the structural area has been impressive, and this has contributed to Austria’s relatively favorable growth performance in the past period.

Book EU Enlargement

Download or read book EU Enlargement written by Geomina Țurlea and published by ASP / VUBPRESS / UPA. This book was released on 2007 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twenty researchers and scientists from 13 different European countries join forces to offer their insights into the development of the Information Society in their respective countries. These experts provide analyses regarding issues of technological absorption, economic growth, and cohesion across the enlarged European Union. This volume shows that the history of Information Society in these countries has mainly been about catching up under harsh economic constraints. The ongoing monitoring of these innovative challenges--and how they are addressed at a regional and national level--is an essential contribution to these countries' efforts to become world-class economies.

Book The Beginner s Guide to Nation Building

Download or read book The Beginner s Guide to Nation Building written by James Dobbins and published by Rand Corporation. This book was released on 2007-02-08 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the end of the Cold War, the United States, NATO, the United Nations, and a range of other states and nongovernmental organizations have become increasingly involved in nation-building operations. Nation-building involves the use of armed force as part of a broader effort to promote political and economic reforms, with the objective of transforming a society emerging from conflict into one at peace with itself and its neighbors. This guidebook is a practical ?how-to? manual on the conduct of effective nation-building. It is organized around the constituent elements that make up any nation-building mission: military, police, rule of law, humanitarian relief, governance, economic stabilization, democratization, and development. The chapters describe how each of these components should be organized and employed, how much of each is likely to be needed, and the likely cost. The lessons are drawn principally from 16 U.S.- and UN-led nation-building operations since World War II and from a forthcoming study on European-led missions. In short, this guidebook presents a comprehensive history of best practices in nation-building and serves as an indispensable reference for the preplanning of future interventions and for contingency planning on the ground.
