Book Experiments in Pig Feeding Classic Reprint

Download or read book Experiments in Pig Feeding Classic Reprint written by George Espy Morrow and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-12-07 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Experiments in Pig Feeding It has already been proposed that a test of what is called a com posite sample of the milk is sufficiently accurate and requires much less work and expense than a test of the milk brought by each patron daily. This composite sample can be obtained by putting into a quart glass fruit jar, which is a convenient receptacle for this purpose, a small quantity of the milk brought by the patron each day. At the end of the week the jar contains a mixture of the milk brought during the seven days, and a test of this mixture (composite sample) is to take the place of the daily test. From the record of the pounds of milk brought by each patron during the week and the test of his composite sample for the week a sim ple calculation shows the pounds of butter fat supplied to the creamery by each patron, and for that he is paid. The accuracy of one test by the composite sample, as a substitute for seven or more separate tests of the samples, depends, when made as de tailed in the following pages, on the uniformity in quantity and quality of the milk from which the composite sample is made up; but, as will be seen, the method is sufficiently accurate for all practical purposes at a creamery. Book Feeding and Management of Hogs Classic Reprint

Download or read book Feeding and Management of Hogs Classic Reprint written by John Irwin Thompson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-02-14 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Feeding and Management of Hogs The number of hogs in California last year was approximately Statistics show a gradual increase for the past few years; also that the number now is fully one-fourth less than it was twenty eight years ago. During this time the population has more than doubled, so that the pork produced here supplies probably not more than one-third the amount consumed. The market value of pure-bred hogs must have increased materially, for the total value of hogs now is more than double what it was twenty-eight years ago (when the number was fully one-fourth greater). Of course the price per pound is also higher, but it is not sufficiently so to account for the difference. The entrance of many new breeders into this business and the shortage of the supply has created a very great demand for breeding stock. Breeders are finding a ready sale for good quality stock for breeding purposes and for the market. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
