This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Suspended Judgments, Essays on Books and Sensations The world divides itself into people who can discriminate and people who cannot discriminate. This is the ultimate test of sensitiveness; and sensitiveness alone separates us and unites us. We all create, or have created for us by the fatality of our temperament, a unique and individual universe. It is only by bringing into light the most secret and subtle elements of this self-contained system of things that we can find out where our lonely orbits touch. Like all primordial aspects of life the situation is double-edged and contradictory. The further we emphasise and drag forth, out of their reluctant twilight, the lurking attractions and antipathies of our destiny, the nearer, at once, and the more obscure, we find ourselves growing, to those about us. And the wisdom of the difficult game we are called upon to play, lies in just this very antinomy, - in just this very contradiction - that to make ourselves better understood we have to emphasise our differences, and to touch the universe of our friend we have to travel away from him, on a curve of free sky. Book In Search of Suspended Judgment

Book excerpt: This project is about exploring the process of suspending judgment, and the ways it can be facilitated. The author approaches the subject from different perspectives: through personal practice of suspending judgment and observing one's own process; through collaboration with professionals from different areas looking for ways of integrating different non-cognitive approaches into a process of Creative Problem Solving (CPS) facilitation; and through exploring practical ways of facilitating suspending judgment with a pilot group. Rather than aiming at achieving concrete results, the project represents the beginning of the journey of exploration. Its main conclusion is that developing the ability to suspend judgment forms an integral part of a personal development process.

Download or read book Suspended Judgments written by John Powys and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-01-04 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Cowper Powys was a British novelist, lecturer, philosopher, literary critic, and poet. Although Powys published a collection of poems in 1896 and his first novel in 1915, he did not gain success as a writer until he published the novel Wolf Solent in 1929. He was influenced by many writers, but he has been particularly seen as a successor to Thomas Hardy, and Wolf Solent, A Glastonbury Romance (1932), along with Weymouth Sands (1934) and Maiden Castle (1936), are often referred to as his Wessex novels. As with Hardy's novels, the landscape plays a major role in Powys's works, and an elemental philosophy is important in the lives of his characters. In 1934 he published his important Autobiography. Powys was also a highly successful itinerant lecturer, first in England and then from 1905 until the early 1930s in the USA.

Book Realistic Decision Theory

Download or read book Realistic Decision Theory written by Paul Weirich and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2004-09-16 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within traditional decision theory, common decision principles -- e.g. the principle to maximize utility -- generally invoke idealization; they govern ideal agents in ideal circumstances. In Realistic Decision Theory, Paul Weirch adds practicality to decision theory by formulating principles applying to nonideal agents in nonideal circumstances, such as real people coping with complex decisions. Bridging the gap between normative demands and psychological resources, Realistic Decision Theory is essential reading for theorists seeking precise normative decision principles that acknowledge the limits and difficulties of human decision-making.
