Book Procurement of Abdominal Organs in Multi Organ Donation in Deceased Donor

Download or read book Procurement of Abdominal Organs in Multi Organ Donation in Deceased Donor written by Bulang He and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organ procurement is an essential step for organ transplantation, from which a quality organ is received for subsequent transplantation. As the demand for organ transplantation continues to grow, multi-organ donation including the heart, lung, live, pancreas, kidneys, and small intestine from one potential donor is always a priority to meet the demand. The donor is generally rigorously assessed for suitability of organ donation prior to proceeding to organ procurement. The quality of the organ from multi-organ procurement is usually satisfactory without jeopardizing its transplantation. In this chapter, the surgical technique for procurement of the organs from the abdomen is described. Some alternative techniques have also been discussed. Some pictures are inserted to facilitate understanding of the surgical procedure.

Book Surgical Techniques of Multiorgan Procurement from a Deceased Donor

Download or read book Surgical Techniques of Multiorgan Procurement from a Deceased Donor written by Farzad Kakaei and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solid organ transplantation is now the standard treatment for many types of diseases and using a standard surgical technique for organ procurement from the deceased donors is an important step in preventing complications after such complicated procedures. In most centers, retrieval of heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, small bowel, pancreas and other organs is done at the same time by different surgeons under supervision by a team leader who is most familiar with at least basic steps of surgical technique of procurement of all the solid organs. Each transplant surgeon, regardless of his or her sub-specialty, has to know how to prepare and dissect the delicate anatomical structures which are in common between the two adjacent organs for example portal vein (liver-pancreas), superior mesenteric vein (pancreas-small bowel), abdominal inferior vena cava (liver-kidneys), supra-diaphragmatic inferior vena cava (liver-heart) and pulmonary artery-veins (heart-lungs). This needs a multidisciplinary approach by the most experienced members of the transplant team to decrease the warm ischemic time of the organs without any harm to them by better coordination between all the surgeons. In this, chapter we briefly describe the multiorgan retrieval procedure in a deceased donor, and we hope that following these instructions results in better quality of the procured organs without jeopardizing their vital anatomical structures.

Book Abdominal Surgery

  • Author : Jose Kam
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2018-11-28
  • ISBN : 9781090896445
  • Pages : 159 pages

Download or read book Abdominal Surgery written by Jose Kam and published by . This book was released on 2018-11-28 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book quickly and easily guides the reader through the difficult steps during organ procurement. It is mainly illustration-based, without much text, and covers surgical technical mistakes and organ damage. In most donors, the surgical procedure can be challenging for an inexperienced surgeon and so often a detailed walkthrough is required to prepare for the operation. This part of transplant surgery is critically important as inadequate preservation or surgical injury at this stage can lead to complete organ damage or to serious complications in the recipient. At present, most multi-organ donor (MOD) procurement procedures are performed by a local surgical team, which is not necessarily the same team as the one responsible for the transplantation. The accepting center therefore has to rely on the expertise and skills of the procurement team, meaning that adequate training and a standardization of the surgical techniques is of vital importance.
