Book Surficial Geology Curtis Lake North Nunavut NTS 56 I North

Download or read book Surficial Geology Curtis Lake North Nunavut NTS 56 I North written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much of the Curtis Lake North map area is covered by streamlined till interspersed in the east by dissected bedrock ridges and plateaus, and in the west by boulder-strewn bedrock uplands. Multiple ice-flow indicators reveal a complex ice flow history during the last glaciation and following deglaciation (Figure 1). East of Curtis Lake, the largest streamlined landforms and early striations converge north-northeastward into Committee Bay, associated with ice streaming during the last glaciation. Pervasive north to north-northwestward streamlined landforms associated with late striations formed during deglaciation as the ice retreated southward. Large meltwater corridors carried meltwater northward, infilling north-trending valleys near the head of the Committee Bay drainage basin. Lateral meltwater channels developed in the southern uplands at the margin of cold-based ice remnants. In the southeast, evidence for a late deglacial eastward ice flow reversal is found in the form of weakly fluted till, fine striations, and glaciofluvial sediments.

Book Surficial Geology Walker Lake South Nunavut NTS 56 J South

Download or read book Surficial Geology Walker Lake South Nunavut NTS 56 J South written by L. A. Dredge and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Much of the Walker Lake South map area is covered by streamlined till plains with shallow, glacially-eroded basins; however the southeast is dominated by a bedrock highland. Striae and streamlined landforms in till indicate initial north-northeast then persistent northwestward ice flow during the last glaciation, although late-glacial flow reversals occurred to the south and east down glacial troughs in the bedrock highland. Weathered bedrock and regotill indicate areas of cold-based ice conditions and combined with the hummocky till, delineate the presence of late-ice remnants in highlands. Large subglacial corridors, containing eskers and other ice-contact deposits, carried meltwater northward into the Arctic Ocean. South of the regional drainage divide, short-lived glacial lakes, marked by wave-cut notches and boulder lags on the till surface, developed as the ice front receded southwards into the upland south of the Ford Lake-Wager Bay lowlands. The marine limit ranges from 100-110 m a.s.l. in this area"--Page [2].

This book was released on 2014 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new surficial geology map product represents the conversion of A-Series Map 1867A and its legend only, using the Geological Survey of Canada's Surficial Data Model (SDM version 2.0) which can be found in Open File 7631. All geoscience knowledge and information from Map 1867A that conformed to the current SDM were maintained during the conversion process. The purpose of converting legacy map data to a common science language and common legend is to enable and facilitate the efficient digital compilation, interpretation, management, and dissemination of geologic map information in a structured and consistent manner. This provides an effective knowledge management tool designed around a geo-database which can expand following the type of information to appear on new surficial geology maps.

Book Reconnaissance Surficial Geology Pelly Lake Nunavut NTS 66 F North

Download or read book Reconnaissance Surficial Geology Pelly Lake Nunavut NTS 66 F North written by D. A. St-Onge and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Preliminary surficial geology studies, through aerial photograph interpretation and limited legacy data, were undertaken in the north half of the Pelly Lake map area. Widespread streamlined till blanket, hummocky till, till veneer and ridged till which may exhibit small transverse ridges locally, are common across the map area. Drumlinoids and crag-and-tails record a regional north-northwestward ice flow during the last glaciation, with local crosscutting age relationships. Rare morainal ridges indicate recessional or stagnant ice-marginal positions. Northward trending meltwater corridors consist of glaciofluvial sediments, zones of scoured bedrock, lags of till veneer and areas of ridged till. Isolated glacial lakes of variable extent were formed by ponding of meltwater, and some fine-grained glacial lake sediments are now characterized by shallow thermokarst lakes. Previous levels of Pelly and Garry lakes are estimated on ice-contact deltas at 190-200 m a.s.l. Active eolian activity can occur adjacent to rivers and lakes, associated with glaciofluvial sediments"--Page [3].
