Book Review and Evaluation of the Air Force Hypersonic Technology Program

Download or read book Review and Evaluation of the Air Force Hypersonic Technology Program written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1998-09-05 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was undertaken in response to a request by the U.S. Air Force that the National Research Council (NRC) examine whether the technologies that underlie the concept of a hypersonic, air-launched, air-breathing, hydrocarbon-fueled missile with speeds up to Mach 81 can be demonstrated in time to be initially operational by 2015. To conduct the study, the NRC appointed the Committee on Review and Evaluation of the Air Force Hypersonic Technology Program, under the auspices of the Air Force Science and Technology Board.

Book Surface based Air Defense System Analysis

Download or read book Surface based Air Defense System Analysis written by Robert H. M. Macfadzean and published by Artech House Publishers. This book was released on 1992 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes a multidisciplinary introduction to the analysis of air defence systems. It supplies the tools to carry out independent analysis. Individual sections deal with threat missions, observability, manoeuvrability and vulnerability. With the support of several examples, the text illustrates 12 air defence process models. These models form the foundation for any air defence system analysis, covering initial detection to kill assessment.

Book Air Warfare in the Missile Age

Download or read book Air Warfare in the Missile Age written by Lon O. Nordeen and published by Smithsonian Institution. This book was released on 2014-12-02 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lon O. Nordeen has completely updated his 1985 chronicle of military aviation’s evolving role in warfare, now covering the major conflicts of the past four decades. He presents the historical and political background of each conflict and includes in-depth discussions of the aircraft, weapons, tactics, training, new systems, and other factors that influenced the outcome of each war. New and existing chapters have been enhanced with information based on recently declassified material—especially regarding Vietnam—and new sources in Egypt, Israel, and the former Soviet Union. As “smart” bombs have become more successful in reducing the risks for pilots and frontline troops, air-missile warfare has become the central player in military conflicts. Air Warfare in the Missile Age, Second Edition, is a valuable resource for understanding the evolution of modern air warfare.

Book Surface To Air Missiles of the People s Republic of China

This book was released on 2013-09 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Pages: 25. Chapters: S-300, HQ-61, QW-1 Vanguard, PL-12, TY-90, FN-6, HQ-9, LY-60 / FD-60 / PL10, HN-5, HQ-7, PL-8, PL-9, QW-2 Vanguard 2, KS-1, TA580/TAS5380, HQ-2J. Excerpt: The S-300 is a series of Russian long range surface-to-air missile systems produced by NPO Almaz, all based on the initial S-300P version. The S-300 system was developed to defend against aircraft and cruise missiles for the Soviet Air Defence Forces. Subsequent variations were developed to intercept ballistic missiles. The S-300 was jointly produced by Almaz with Samsung Group of South Korea since 1993. The S-300 system was first deployed by the Soviet Union in 1979, designed for the air defense of large industrial and administrative facilities, military bases, and control of airspace against enemy strike aircraft. The project-managing developer of the S-300 is Russian Almaz corporation (government owned, aka "KB-1") which is currently a part of "Almaz-Antei" Air Defense Concern. S-300 uses missiles developed by MKB "Fakel" design bureau (a separate government corporation, aka "OKB-2"). The S-300 is regarded as one of the most potent anti-aircraft missile systems currently fielded. Its radars have the ability to simultaneously track up to 100 targets while engaging up to 12. S-300 deployment time is five minutes. The S-300 missiles are sealed rounds and require no maintenance over their lifetime. An evolved version of the S-300 system is the S-400 (NATO reporting name SA-21), entering limited service in 2004. Numerous versions have since emerged with different missiles, improved radars, better resistance to countermeasures, longer range and better capability against short-range ballistic missiles or targets flying at very low altitude. There are currently three main variations. Two S-300-PM missile TEL and a 'Flap Lid' radarThe S-300P (transliterated from...

Download or read book Red SAM written by Steven J. Zaloga and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2011-12-20 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Russian SA-2, nicknamed “Red SAM,” is history's dominant antiaircraft missile. In 1960 it famously downed Gary Powers' U-2 spyplane, and two years later it was one of the missiles deployed during the Cuban Missile Crisis, which almost sparked a nuclear showdown between America and the USSR. The SA-2 was also deployed in Vietnam, North Korea, Egypt, and even the Gulf War. Using photographs, color artwork, and rare accounts from the weapon's designers, Steven J Zaloga examines the missile's development, linking this to its massive impact on Cold War air campaigns, and investigates the design changes that have helped the SA-2 stand the test of time.

Book Missile Flight Simulation

Download or read book Missile Flight Simulation written by Jeffrey Strickland and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011-08 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surface-to-air missiles are designed to defend a land area against an aerial or theater ballistic missile threat. The size of the defended area and the capabilities of the threat have great influence on the speed, maneuverability, and lethality requirements of the missile system. Simulation of the missile flight path can provide valuable information about these requirements. A missile flight simulation is a computational tool that calculates the flight of a missile from launch until it engages the target. The simulation is based on mathematical models of the missile, target and environment. This book provides instruction for the preparation of these mathematical models to simulate the flight of a surface-to-air missile. This book may be used as a reference or as a textbook, although it is devoid of exercises. However, the reader is encourages to perform the simulation of Charter 12 using MATLAB and Simulink, or a programming language such as FORTRAN (see Chapter 10).

Book History of Strategic Air and Ballistic Missile Defense 1945 1955

Download or read book History of Strategic Air and Ballistic Missile Defense 1945 1955 written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the book's Foreword: In the early 1970s, the U.S. Army Center of Military History contracted with BDM Corporation for a history of U.S. efforts to counter Soviet air and missile threats during the Cold War. The resulting two-volume History of Strategic Air and Ballistic Missile Defense covers the years 1945-1972 when the strategic arms competition between the United States and the Soviet Union was at its height. The study was first published for limited distribution in 1975 and recently declassified with minimal redaction. These volumes address the passive and active defense strategies, technologies, and techniques adopted by both U.S. and Soviet defense planners. Much of their actions centered around three common questions: How might we be attacked? How shall we defend our country? What can technology do to solve the basic problems of defending against this new intercontinental threat?
