Book Construction and Reactivity of Pt Based Bi component Catalytic Systems

Download or read book Construction and Reactivity of Pt Based Bi component Catalytic Systems written by Rentao Mu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-06-20 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, the author outlines the construction of active structure and modulation of catalytic reactivity of Pt-based bi-component catalysts, from the model systems to real supported catalysts. The thesis investigates the promotion effect of the second components on catalytic performance of Pt catalysts, and presents the reversible generation of the “sandwich-like” structure of Pt-Ni catalysts, containing both surface NiO1-X and subsurface Ni by alternating redox treatments at medium temperature. With the aid of single layer graphene, the dynamic process of chemical reactions occurring on the Pt(111) surface can be visualized using in-situ LEEM and DUV-PEEM techniques, the results of which are included here. The author reveals that the graphene layer exhibits a strong confinement effect on the chemistry of molecules underneath and the intercalated CO can desorb from the Pt surface around room temperature and in UHV, which may promote the CO oxidation confined under graphene.

It comprises technological data of all six platinum-group metals and their technically relevant alloys and compounds. The volume starts with a review on the recovery of the platinum-group metals (23 pages); the next 42 pages are devoted to processes for separating and refining the PGM in order to obtain metals of high purity. The electrodeposition of the PGM and their alloys is treated on 26 pages. The by far most extensive section deals with PGMand their alloys and compounds in catalysis. After a historicalsurvey and alist of important reviewson PGMcatalysis, the catalytic properties of the metals are treated in a general way, followed by unsupported metals and alloys including preparation of catalysts and their reactions in various industrial processes. The role of supported metals and alloys is described in asimilar manner. This isfollowed byan extensive description of the preparation and the reactions of PGM compounds with various nonmetals and their catalytically active role in a number of industrial processes (226 pages). The last chapter (21 pages) is a compilation of data on the medical use of cytostatic platinum compounds. Book Methods of Surface Analysis

Download or read book Methods of Surface Analysis written by A.W. Czanderna and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods of Surface Analysis deals with the determination of the composition of surfaces and the identification of species attached to the surface. The text applies methods of surface analysis to obtain a composition depth profile after various stages of ion etching or sputtering. The composition at the solid—solid interface is revealed by systematically removing atomic planes until the interface of interest is reached, in which the investigator can then determine its composition. The book reviews the effect of ion etching on the results obtained by any method of surface analysis including the effect of the rate of etching, incident energy of the bombarding ion, the properties of the solid, the effect of the ion etching on generating an output signal of electrons, ions, or neutrals. The text also describes the effect of the residual gases in the vacuum environment. The book considers the influence of the sample geometry, of the type (metal, insulator, semiconductor, organic), and of the atomic number can have on surface analysis. The text describes in detail low energy ion scattering spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Auger electron spectroscopy, secondary ion mass spectroscopy, and infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy. The book can prove useful for researchers, technicians, and scientists whose works involve organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and other related fields of chemistry, such as physical chemistry or inorganic chemistry.

Download or read book Catalysis written by John R. Anderson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of a commercially successful process for the catalytic synthesis of ammonia was a scientific as well as a technical triumph. Its implications were con siderable. It demonstrated the power of a combination of innovative technology and engineering together with basic chemical science, and it introduced ideas and techniques into catalytic science and process engineering which are still with us today. In a real sense, this process changed the face of industrial chemistry and process technology. Of course, the key step in the direct synthesis of ammonia was the development of an efficient catalyst, and the historical account given by Dr. S. A. Topham in the first chapter of this volume shows how this was success fully accomplished, and how this was combined with the successful solution of other daunting technical problems to make the overall process possible. The microstructure of a catalyst is an important feature which determines its behaviour, and the electron microscope is one of the most important instrumental methods by means of which structural and microstruc tural information can be obtained. Nevertheless, the elec tron-optical processes of image formation are complex, but need to be properly understood if image interpreta tion is to be done reliably. In the second chapter of this volume, Dr. J. V. Sanders addresses the entire field of the application of electron microscopic methods to the examination of catalysts.

Book excerpt: The series Topics in Current Chemistry Collections presents critical reviews from the journal Topics in Current Chemistry organized in topical volumes. The scope of coverage is all areas of chemical science including the interfaces with related disciplines such as biology, medicine and materials science. The goal of each thematic volume is to give the non-specialist reader, whether in academia or industry, a comprehensive insight into an area where new research is emerging which is of interest to a larger scientific audience. Each review within the volume critically surveys one aspect of that topic and places it within the context of the volume as a whole. The most significant developments of the last 5 to 10 years are presented using selected examples to illustrate the principles discussed. The coverage is not intended to be an exhaustive summary of the field or include large quantities of data, but should rather be conceptual, concentrating on the methodological thinking that will allow the non-specialist reader to understand the information presented. Contributions also offer an outlook on potential future developments in the field.

Book Electrochemical Science for a Sustainable Society

Download or read book Electrochemical Science for a Sustainable Society written by Kohei Uosaki and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-06-15 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book honors Professor. John O’M. Bockris, presenting authoritative reviews on some of the subjects to which he made significant contributions – i.e., electrocatalysis, fuel cells, electrochemical theory, electrochemistry of single crystals, in situ techniques, rechargeable batteries, passivity, and solar-fuels – and revealing the roles of electrochemical science and technology in achieving a sustainable society. Electrochemistry has long been an object of study and is now growing in importance, not only because of its fundamental scientific interest but also because of the central role it is expected to play in a future sustainable society. Professor John O’M. Bockris contributed greatly to various aspects of fundamental and applied electrochemistry – such as the structure of the double layer, kinetics and mechanism of the electrochemistry of hydrogen and oxygen, electrocatalysis, adsorption and electrochemical oxidation of small organic molecules, fuel cells, electrocrystallization, theoretical electrochemistry, new methods, photoelectrochemistry, bioelectrochemistry, corrosion and passivity, hydrogen in metals, ionic solutions and ionic liquids, and molten silicates and glasses, as well as socio-economic issues such as the hydrogen economy – for over half a century from 1945 until his retirement in 1997.

Book Adsorption and Catalysis on Transition Metals and Their Oxides

Download or read book Adsorption and Catalysis on Transition Metals and Their Oxides written by Vsevolod F. Kiselev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with adsorption and catalysis on the surface of transition elements and their compounds, many of which are in teresting because of their particular electronic structure. The authors have worked through a vast body of experimental evi dence on the structure and properties of surfaces of transition metals and relevant oxides. Consideration is given mostly to simple (as opposed to mixed) oxides of transition elements, to common metals and to the adsorption of simple gases. A great deal of attention is paid to the nature of active surface sites responsible for chemisorption and catalytic transformations. The description relies mainly on the simplified ligand-field theory, which, however, proves quite satisfactory for predicting the adsorptive and catalytic activity of species. In many cases simple systems were explored with the aid of novel techniques, and it is only for such systems that the mechanism of the ele mentary act of adsorption and catalysis can be given adequate treatment. The present monograph has emerged from our earlier work in Russian, which appeared in the Khimiya Publishing House (Mos cow) in 1981. This English edition has, however, been revised completely to broaden its scope and to include more recent a chievements. For fruitful discussions the authors are grateful to A.A.
