Book Research in Molecular Laser Plasmas

Download or read book Research in Molecular Laser Plasmas written by N. G. Basov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume reports investigations which form part of a major series of theoretical and experimental studies being carried out in the Laboratory of Low-Temperature Plasma Optics at the Lebedev Physics Institute in Moscow. The papers give the results of systematic investigations of the chemical composition and of the electrical and optical properties of discharge plasmas, and also of populations of laser levels. Reliable and detailed information is given on the dissociation of carbon dioxide gas in discharges; the nature of the velocity distribution function, average energies, and densities of electrons; and populations and vibrational temperatures of molecules in cw CO and CO lasers. The material in this volume is intended for specialists in quantum electronics and low temperature plasma diagnostics.

Book Coherent Cooperative Phenomena

Download or read book Coherent Cooperative Phenomena written by N. G. Basov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This anthology is devoted to the theoretical and experimental study of coherent phenomena in quantum optics. Considerable attention is devoted to the investigation of cooperative effects in multilevel molecular and atomic systems. The theoretical analysis is based on a single approach, using the theory of groups, which makes it possible to present the results in a compact and physically elegant form. The results of a detailed experimental and theoretical investigation of the photon echo, self-induced transparency, and nutation are presented. The theory of a coherent resonant mechanism for the interaction of laser radiation with multi atomic molecules which causes "prompt" dissociation is presented. A number of applied pos sibilities, in particular, the control of radiation by laser light and laser isotope separation, are analyzed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains two papers that review certain theoretical problems that have been studied in the Laboratory of Plasma Accelerators and Plasma Physics of the P. N. Lebedev Physics Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. The review of R. R. Kikvidze and A. A. Rukhadze, "Theory of oscillations and stability of a semiconductor plasma with low carrier density in a strong electric field," is devoted to a solid-state plasma. The main attention is devoted to the fact that in such a plasma electro magnetic waves are effectively generated if there is a negative current-voltage characteristic in the carrier current; this effect can compete in importance with the well-known Gunn effect. In their fundamental review paper "Nonlinear theory of the interaction of waves in a plasma," V. V. Pustovalov and V. P. SHin set forth the fundamentals of the theory of nonlinear interaction of waves in a hot rarefied plasma. Besides a systematic exposition of the pro cedure for deriving the equations that describe the nonlinear interaction of waves in an iso tropic or an anisotropic (magnetized) plasma, they study many concrete examples relating to the interaction of definite types of waves under different conditions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1963 the Research Materials Information Center has been answering inquiries on the availability, preparation, and properties of ultrapure inorganic research specimens. It has been possible to do this with reasonable efficiency by searching an automated coded microfilm collection of the report and open literature and of data sheets and question naires provided by commercial and research producers of pure materials. With the growth of the collection to over 70,000 documents and the increase in the demand for more general background information, it has been necessary to compile bibliographies on an increasing variety of subjects. These have been used as indexes to the microfilmed documents for more efficient searching, and in the past distributed in response to individual requests. However, their size and number no longer permit so casual and uneconomic a method of distribution. The "ORNL Solid State Physics Literature Guides" is a practical alternative. Organization The subject organization of the bibliography is given by the Table of Contents. Each section is preceded by a collection of reviews, bibliographies, and "general" papers (i.e., those dealing with methods or equipment rather than single materials, or with such a wide variety of materials that no subsection was appropriate). Coverage is generally from 1960 to mid-1970. Emphasis is on inorganic materials.

Download or read book Optical Properties of Metals and Intermolecular Interactions Opticheskie Svoistva Metallov Mezhmolekulyarnoe Vzaimodeistvie written by D. V. Skobel tsyn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first part of this collection sets out the results of some experimental and theoretical investigations into the optical properties of nontransition metals. The extensive future pros pects of metal optics are indicated; the use of metal optics enables a whole series of import ant electron properties of metals to be determined. Results obtained by studying intermolecular forces (the hydrogen bond and van der Waals forces) using spectroscopic methods (Raman effect and infrared absorption) are presented in the second part. A method of studying the true absorption of the drop phase of a water cloud is described. Methods of increasing the dispersion of manufactured spectral instruments and constructing various infrared spectrometers are indicated. The publication is intended for scientific workers, graduates, and students concerned with problems of metal optics, the electron properties of metals, and molecular spectroscopy. v CONTENTS OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF NONTRANSITION METALS G. This book was released on 2013-11-09 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of articles contains a systematic outline of original experimental and theoretical research on photoproduction of neutral pions at protons and at a strongly bound system of a few nucleons, i.e., the helium nucleus. Spark chambers and their use as spectrometers for photons and electrons are described in detail. The articles of the collection include information on a novel method of determining the efficiency of recording apparatus by generating monochromatic photons. The articles de scribe original theoretical research on the optical anisotropy of nuclei. Problems encountered in experimental studies of operating the synchrotron as a storage-type accelerator of electrons and positrons receive particular attention. The results of this research work are listed, and the problems of oppositely directed electron-positron beams in the 250-MeV synchrotron are considered. The articles should be of interest to physicists, including research workers, teachers, engineers, graduate students, and students in advanced undergraduate courses. v CONTENTS Photoproduction of Neutral Pions at Nucleons and Nuclei B.B. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper we investigated the dynamics of the processes occurring in a Q-switched laser. This work was stimulated by the lack of data on the spatial and temporal development of generation, despite the obvious importance of such data in the use of giant light pulses in in vestigations of the nonlinear interaction of radiation and matter. From a systematic con sideration of a relatively simple model of a Q-switched laser we analytically investigated two main phases of development of the giant pulse - the phase of linear development of generation, which begins with amplification of the spontaneous emission in the modes, and the phase of nonlinear transverse development, during which the giant light pulse proper is emitted. In ad dition, fo r a thorough inve stigation of the picture of development of the pulse as a whole the equations were numerically integrated. ' Subsequent experiments [26, 27] confirmed the occurrence of transverse development of the giant pulse, while recent experiments on nonlinear amplification [28] have shown the sig nificance of this effect in the propagation of the giant pulse in a nonlinear medium. A know ledge of the transverse development of the giant pulse would appear to be essential for the exact determination of the true strength of the light field in experiments on multi photon pro cesses [29]. The developed theory also leads to recommendations for the design of lasers to generate giant light pulses of minimum length and minimum divergence of emission.
