Book Supersymmetry Supergravity And Superstring Proceedings Of The Kias ctp International Symposium

Download or read book Supersymmetry Supergravity And Superstring Proceedings Of The Kias ctp International Symposium written by Jihn E Kim and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000-06-27 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supersymmetry, supergravity and superstring are the most popular research topics in particle physics. In particular, the phenomenological studies beyond the standard model have become very popular in view of possible identification or exclusion of supersymmetric particles in the future. Also, the lightest supersymmetric particle in most supersymmetric models can be a good candidate for dark matter in the universe. The recent developments in supersymmetry with important applications to particle physics are the main theme of this book, which includes superstring calculations with D-branes, TeV-scale gravity, superstring- and supergravity-inspired interactions, supersymmetric GUT, supergravity phenomenology, and cosmological implications of LSP.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The traditional purpose of the Adriatic Meeting is to present most advanced scienti?c research conducted by the lecturers who take part in the development of their ?elds and, in addition, to provide a school-like atmosphere for young scientists. Dubrovnik, as a geographical centre of this region of Europe, provided a most adequate location for this conference. Having very agreeable surroundings, the conference site nevertheless gave a focus for very strong scienti?c interaction. The subjects chosen for the 8th meeting, in September 2001, were gauge theories, particle phenomenology, string theories and cosmology. We were able to bring together a very good cross section of outstanding scientists who gave extraorinarily good presentations. Certainely one reason for this success is that most of us feel obliged to help the scienti?c life in South East Europe return to its former level. However, there are very exciting new scienti?c developments as well. Part of the meeting was dominated by neutrino physics which has just seen exciting progress by establishing neutrino masses experimentally. This was d- cussed within neutrino masses and grand uni?ed theories (GUTs). General - pects of neutrino physics and CP violation, neutrino mixing and the bayron asymmetry were presented along the same lines. On the theoretical side the idea of the construction of gauge theories on non-commutative spaces and their phenomenological implications is accepted worldwide within the particle physics community.

Book String Theory Compactifications

Download or read book String Theory Compactifications written by Mariana Graña and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-21 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lectures in this book provide graduate students and non-specialist researchers with a concise introduction to the concepts and formalism required to reduce the ten-dimensional string theories to the observable four-dimensional space-time - a procedure called string compactification. The text starts with a very brief introduction to string theory, first working out its massless spectrum and showing how the condition on the number of dimensions arises. It then dwells on the different possible internal manifolds, from the simplest to the most relevant phenomenologically, thereby showing that the most elegant description is through an extension of ordinary Riemannian geometry termed generalized geometry, which was first introduced by Hitchin. Last but not least, the authors review open problems in string phenomenology, such as the embedding of the Standard Model and obtaining de Sitter solutions.

Book Extra Dimensions in Space and Time

Download or read book Extra Dimensions in Space and Time written by Itzhak Bars and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-12-04 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In physics, the idea of extra spatial dimensions originates from Nordstöm’s 5-dimensional vector theory in 1914, followed by Kaluza-Klein theory in 1921, in an effort to unify general relativity and electromagnetism in a 5 dimensional space-time (4 dimensions for space and 1 for time). Kaluza–Klein theory didn’t generate enough interest with physicist for the next five decades, due to its problems with inconsistencies. With the advent of supergravity theory (the theory that unifies general relativity and supersymmetry theories) in late 1970’s and eventually, string theories (1980s) and M-theory (1990s), the dimensions of space-time increased to 11 (10-space and 1-time dimension). There are two main features in this book that differentiates it from other books written about extra dimensions: The first feature is the coverage of extra dimensions in time (Two Time physics), which has not been covered in earlier books about extra dimensions. All other books mainly cover extra spatial dimensions. The second feature deals with level of presentation. The material is presented in a non-technical language followed by additional sections (in the form of appendices or footnotes) that explain the basic equations and formulas in the theories. This feature is very attractive to readers who want to find out more about the theories involved beyond the basic description for a layperson. The text is designed for scientifically literate non-specialists who want to know the latest discoveries in theoretical physics in a non-technical language. Readers with basic undergraduate background in modern physics and quantum mechanics can easily understand the technical sections. Part I starts with an overview of the Standard Model of particles and forces, notions of Einstein’s special and general relativity, and the overall view of the universe from the Big Bang to the present epoch, and covers Two-Time physics. 2T-physics has worked correctly at all scales of physics, both macroscopic and microscopic, for which there is experimental data so far. In addition to revealing hidden information even in familiar "everyday" physics, it also makes testable predictions in lesser known physics regimes that could be analyzed at the energy scales of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN or in cosmological observations." Part II of the book is focused on extra dimensions of space. It covers the following topics: The Popular View of Extra Dimensions, Einstein and the Fourth Dimension, Traditional Extra Dimensions, Einstein's Gravity, The Theory Formerly Known as String, Warped Extra Dimensions, and How Do We Look For Extra Dimensions?

Book Nonlinear Supersymmetry Spontaneous Supersymmetry Breaking and Extra Dimensions

Download or read book Nonlinear Supersymmetry Spontaneous Supersymmetry Breaking and Extra Dimensions written by Chrysoula Markou and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject matter of the present thesis is the partial breaking of N=2 supersymmetry in four and in five spacetime dimensions. In the first case, we study the off-shell nonlinear realization of the broken N=1 superymmetry with the use of nilpotent N=2 superfields that contain the Goldstone degrees of freedom of the massive spin-3/2 multiplet of N=1 supersymmetry. These Goldstino superfields can either be the Maxwell or the single-tensor multiplet. The partial breaking is induced by a combination of magnetic and electric Fayet-Iliopoulos terms, the coefficients of which can be seen as deformation parameters of the transformations of the broken supersymmetry algebra or, futhermore, as deformations of the superfields themselves. Interactions of deformed Goldstino multiplets with undeformed multiplets generate a super-Brout-Englert-Higgs effect but without gravity, in which an N=1 vector multiplet absorbs an N=1 linear multiplet and becomes massive. In the second case, we study on-shell the partial breaking that is induced by the background value of the dilaton that is linear in the extra dimension, with the latter being a toy model of the holographic dual of little string theory. A particular gauging of N=2, D=5 supergravity can accommodate this model, with N=1 supersymmetry remaining intact in four dimensions. Upon compactification of the extra dimension, we find that the introduction of branes is compatible with the direction of the unbroken supersymmetry.
