Book excerpt: Since when did life ever tell you where you were going? Josie Harris always drew comfort from the thought that she lived a charmed life. Unexciting, perhaps, but stable and predictable. In a rut? Josie counted that as luck—at least one knew what would happen next. Then disaster struck. Her parents moved across the country, she lost her job and, worst of all—after more than forty years of marriage, her father announced he was leaving her mother. Some local hussy had lured him away! What kind of senior community was this? Josie knew it was time to take charge. She had to make her parents see sense. So she drove across to the Sunshine Coast and was soon immersed in a new job, new community…and most of all, a new and totally unexpected love.

Download or read book With Love written by Arcelia Watson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-10 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been a joy to write this memoir as a legacy for my son Dennis and my daughter Susan and my grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I have fantastic family and friends. I retired after 54 years as a public school teacher. I loved teaching eighthgraders. I feel that my students have given me more than I gave them. I have spent my years searching and growing and always trying to be a responsible person. I am living a charmed life. In my journey I have dealt with negatives such as alcoholism, divorce, death, codependency, and Alzheimer's. I am a child of an alcoholic; I married and divorced an alcoholic; I was a codependent. Alzheimer's is one of the cruelest diseases there is. The disease erased all that made my mom a unique human being. I hope my story can inspire. Sports have given me much pleasure. I love football, basketball, IRL racing, and NASCAR. My favorites are the Green Bay Packers, the Illini Dan Wheldon, Danica Patrick, Brett Favre, Jeff Gordon, and Jimmie Johnson. Traveling has been the most invigorating experience for me as I have traveled the US and the world. It was so neat to walk the Great Wall of China. I am living a very passionate, positive, and fulfilling life. It is not my age that defines me; it is what I do with my life. With love; my name is Arcelia.

Download or read book Environmental Offsets written by Tor Hundloe and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2021-03-01 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are currently facing significant challenges in environmental management that must be addressed to maintain the health of our planet and our population. While carbon offsetting in its various forms is widespread globally, few countries have fully legislated and put into operation other offset policies. This edited collection aims to fill the gap of knowledge on environmental offsets, from theory to practice. Environmental Offsets addresses four major forms of environmental offsets – biodiversity offsets, carbon offsets, offsetting the depletion of non-renewable resources and offsetting the destruction of built heritage. The authors discuss their research and provide case studies from around Australia and across the developing world. Using examples such as the Sydney Olympics, the Bakossi Forest Reserve in Cameroon and green roof gardens, this book highlights the strengths and weaknesses of environmental offsetting and illustrates how jobs can be created in the offsetting process. Environmental Offsets is both a historical source in our understanding of environmental offsetting and a guide to the way forward. It illustrates what works, what does not and what can be improved for the future.
Download or read book Here on the Coast written by Howard White and published by Harbour Publishing. This book was released on 2021-03-27 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No matter where people live on the BC coast, says Howard White, they have certain shared experiences: frustration with rain and ferries, familiarity with gumboots, bumbershoots, seagull droppings and barnacles in the wrong places. But each little community clings to its own sense of uniqueness and considers itself the true West Coast. As a case in point, White offers fifty funny sketches of life as he has come to know it in sixty-odd years of living along that hundred-mile stretch of monsoon-prone shoreline ironically known as the Sunshine Coast. Included is what must be one of the most admiring testaments ever written about the virtues of the old-time outhouse; fond remembrances of saltwater fishing when a bad day meant you didn’t hook something in twenty minutes; and explorers who stooped to naming islands after favourite racehorses. We also meet a “bouquet of characters,” including a lyrical logger known as Pete the Poet; a diabolical seagoing remittance man; the saintly Quaker philosopher Hubert Evans and White’s barrier-busting Aunt Jean who taught him the advantages of “scientifically enlarging the truth.” Along with accounts of waste disposal wars and wry observations on modern technology, Here On the Coast offers a West Coast counterpart to such favourites as Letters From Wingfield Farm and Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town.
