Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All churches like to think that theirs is the friendliest in town. But do visitors see it that way? Church consultant Gary McIntosh invites readers to take a look at their church through the eyes of visitors and potential visitors. His starting point, grounded in an understanding of God as a "welcomer," is that churches should see those who enter their doors as not merely visitors, but as guests, and themselves as gracious hosts. This practical book offers sound advice on assessing and improving the ways in which churches attract people, welcome them, do follow-up, and bring them into the church family. It also offers suggestions for making a welcoming attitude part of the very fabric of the local church.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In life, we can take many journeys, but nothing is like a spiritual journey of a lifetime. I was fortunate to have an opportunity to go on a pilgrimage to Israel with other ministers. We were selected as a group to go on a special trip, a trip that perhaps would impact each of us in a very unique way. We went on the journey to learn, to observe and to be strengthened in our faith. While we were there, we reflected on our ministry and spent time discerning our call and our future. We toured biblical sites that focused on the Jews, the Romans, the Arabs, and particularly on the ministry of Jesus Christ. We traveled several places like Tiberias of Galilee, Jerusalem, Nazareth, Bethlehem, and many other sites. During my time in Israel, I had some interesting moments on the pilgrimage. There were moments at certain sites I felt deeply touched and spiritual uplifted as I walked and looked around. My faith was strengthened as I rode the boat on the Sea of Galilee. I felt spiritually uplifted when I was in Caesarea Philippi. And, I felt touched the most when I was at the Garden Tomb where Jesus was buried. I must say there is something about visiting Israel that will touch your heart. My heart was touched many times and I left with an everlasting impression. If you want to experience or explore the biblical sites and learn about the ministry of Jesus Christ, I encourage you to visit and be inspired and feel the joy in the Holy Land.

Book The Price of Pastoral Care and Dealing with the Vision for the Church

Download or read book The Price of Pastoral Care and Dealing with the Vision for the Church written by Sinclair L. Thorne and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2010-06 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People from various walks of life will accept the call to pastor a church without any idea about how to be a pastor, the responsibilities of a pastor, and what to do with the vision that God has given them for the church. In his book, the author, who has served as a pastor for over 22 years, provides a Biblical perspective of what the pastor needs to know and the price that must be paid when accepting the call to lead God's people. Several critical areas of pastorship are addressed, including the price of pastoring; the price of pastoring those with whom we disagree, the price of pastoring the brokenhearted; the price of pastoring those who are stumbling blocks and hindrances to the forward moving of the ministry; the privileges and rewards of pastoring; what to do with the vision that God has given for the church; and extending the vision to the community. This is a timely and valuable resource and should be a part of every pastor's and pastoral student's library. Rev. Dr. Sinclair L. Thorne has served as the pastor of First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Hinesville, Georgia for over 22 years. He is a graduate of ITC Theological Seminary Extension Course, Morehouse School of Religion, and has a Master of Divinity and a Doctorate of Religion in Pastoral Care from the New Life Bible Community School of Ministry and Bible Institute of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He retired from the U.S. Army as First Sergeant of Charlie Company, 24th Support Battalion in 1992, after returning from the Gulf War. He is the former President of the Ministerial Alliance of Liberty County, Dean and Assistant Program Coordinator for the Tattnall Baptist Association, and President of the First District of the Georgia Missionary Baptist Convention.

Book Six Heritage Tours of the Lower East Side

Download or read book Six Heritage Tours of the Lower East Side written by Ruth Limmer and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 1997-07 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An illustrated (and educational) walking guide tour of Manhattan's astonishingly diverse Lower East Side Many of our nation's oldest ethnic communities trace their roots in this country to New York City's Lower East Side. A century ago, travelers to the area could attend a black-faced minstrel show performed by Irishmen, drink German lager, visit Jewish-run gambling houses, and dine on Chinese delicacies, all within a matter of blocks. Long a hub of immigrant cultures, this vibrant section of New York City remains one of the country's most astonishingly diverse neighborhoods. This unique walking guide takes us back to the world of these bustling immigrant enclaves. The historical tours, enlivened by colorful photographs and illustrations, chronicle the evolution of the communities—African, German, Irish, Chinese, Jewish, and Italian—for whom the Lower East Side served as an entryway into America. As participants stroll through one of the world's most heterogeneous and visually stimulating neighborhoods, the tours take them past such historic points as the African burial ground excavation site; Old St. Patrick's Cathedral, the first Catholic cathedral in New York State; the charming Caff Roma, which still serves authentic Italian coffee and desserts much as it did in the early 1900s; the oldest still- standing Jewish house of worship in the City; the site of the notorious Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire of 1911; and Mott Street, the main thoroughfare around which New York's Chinatown developed. Combining educational historical accounts with enchanting scenic tours, the heritage tours impart a keen sense of the legacies waiting to be discovered in the Lower East Side's remarkable past.
