Download or read book Vacation Decision Making written by Alain Decrop and published by CABI. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this book is on holiday planning and decision making, which is the cornerstone of tourist behaviour and tourism marketing. The first three chapters deal with the basics, including an overview of decision-making paradigms and variables (chapter 1), a critical review of existing tourist behaviour models (chapter 2) and a description of the methods that may be used for studying holiday decision making (chapter 3). The chapters that follow relate the findings of an in-depth qualitative and interpretative study that followed the decision making process of 25 Belgian households during a whole year. Chapter 4 discusses the context in which holiday decisions are made. In the next two chapters, the focus is on the decision-making process in itself both at the generic and holiday levels (chapter 5) and at the destination level (chapter 6). Post-experience processes are investigated in chapter 7, whereas group processes are the particular focus of chapter 8. Chapter 9 presents the integrative and conclusive part of the book where a new typology of holidaymakers is proposed. The book has a subject index.
Download or read book We re Doing What for Summer Vacation written by Ali Rollason and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2013-05-06 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Were Doing What for Summer Vacation? is a nonfiction story told by Ali, a typical nine-year-old American girl who spent the summer traveling on a budget across Borneo with her older brother and parents. Ali just wanted to be a normal kid with a normal family spending summer vacation at the beach in Florida. Unfortunately, she has former hippie parents that wanted a big summer adventure. This was not her idea of summer fun! On her adventure, she lived in a tree house, experienced bedbugs, learned a little about Muslim culture, ate strange food, went white-water rafting, got trapped in a stairwell alone and thought she was being kidnapped, trekked in the jungle, saw orangutans, experienced leeches, stayed with the locals in their houses, found real skulls from headhunters, discovered an island of lost children, and went scuba diving with turtles bigger than she was. This story is not your ordinary nonfiction story. It is a quirky journey about a typical girl experiencing a very untypical place.

Download or read book Summer Vacation and Other Stories written by Theodore Kohan and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2007-09-27 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Male-female relationships are at the center of this collection of thirteen stories. Roughly half the stories take place in the United States and half in Chile. A common thread runs through these keenly sensitive stories: the women take the initiative, and the men, willingly or unwillingly, follow their lead. At one end of the spectrum, Ari, 14 years old, is awakening to his sexuality, and at the other, Al, almost 70 and a former college professor, sees a potential affair with a young woman as his last opportunity to indulge his taste for sexual mischief. Along the way we also meet Dora, a free-spirited woman who, thirty years earlier, was in hot pursuit of Sergio, a married man, but who now holds a secret he is determined to uncover; Josh, home for the summer after having completed his freshman year in college, who is torn between family expectations and his attraction for Sofia, a Colombian immigrant; and a gallery of other unique characters.

Download or read book Railway Travel in World War Two written by Peter Steer and published by Pen and Sword Transport. This book was released on 2024-01-30 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The popular image of railway travel during the Second World War is that of a sparse service of dirty and grossly overcrowded trains that were forever being delayed. The iconic ‘is your journey really necessary’ poster campaign is credited with discouraging the public from traveling by train. This book questions these assumptions and examines the mobility requirements of the British public during the war years and aligns these to the level of service provided by the railways. Throughout the war the railways were managed by the Railway Executive Committee (REC) whose members were all senior railway officers. The conflicts between the REC and the government in respect to controlling passenger numbers on the railway system, which was overcrowded with essential additional war related freight traffic, are examined; as are the propaganda campaigns aimed at restricting ‘unnecessary’ travel. The public’s response to the travel restrictions are analyzed to determine how railway passengers’ attitudes and reactions corresponded to the publicly accepted mythology. Many British citizens did reduce their railway journeys, but for others who had previously had little need to travel by train, the exigencies of war resulted in them having to make long and often difficult journeys by rail.
