Book Reviews of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology

Download or read book Reviews of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology written by George W. Ware and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global attention in scientific, industrial, and governmental commumties to traces of toxic chemicals in foodstuffs and in both abiotic and biotic environ ments has justified the present triumvirate of specialized publications in this field: comprehensive reviews, rapidly published progress reports, and archival documentations. These three publications are integrated and scheduled to pro vide in international communication the coherency essential for nonduplicative and current progress in a field as dynamic and complex as environmental con tamination and toxicology. Until now there has been no journal or other publica tion series reserved exclusively for the diversified literature on "toxic" chemicals in our foods, our feeds, our geographical surroundings, our domestic animals, our wildlife, and ourselves. Around the world immense efforts and many talents have been mobilized to technical and other evaluations of natures, locales, magnitudes, fates, and toxicology of the persisting residues of these chemicals loosed upon the world. Among the sequelae of this broad new emphasis has been an inescapable need for an articulated set of authoritative publications where one could expect to find the latest important world literature produced by this emerging area of science together with documentation of pertinent ancil lary legislation.

Book Chemical Fate and Transport in the Environment

Download or read book Chemical Fate and Transport in the Environment written by Harold F. Hemond and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-13 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The third edition of Chemical Fate and Transport in the Environment—winner of a 2015 Textbook Excellence Award (Texty) from The Text and Academic Authors Association—explains the fundamental principles of mass transport, chemical partitioning, and chemical/biological transformations in surface waters, in soil and groundwater, and in air. Each of these three major environmental media is introduced by descriptive overviews, followed by a presentation of the controlling physical, chemical, and biological processes. The text emphasizes intuitively based mathematical models for chemical transport and transformations in the environment, and serves both as a textbook for senior undergraduate and graduate courses in environmental science and engineering, and as a standard reference for environmental practitioners. Winner of a 2015 Texty Award from the Text and Academic Authors Association Includes many worked examples as well as extensive exercises at the end of each chapter Illustrates the interconnections and similarities among environmental media through its coverage of surface waters, the subsurface, and the atmosphere Written and organized concisely to map to a single-semester course Discusses and builds upon fundamental concepts, ensuring that the material is accessible to readers who do not have an extensive background in environmental science

Book Hazardous Waste Management

Download or read book Hazardous Waste Management written by Michael D. LaGrega and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2010-07-30 with total page 1231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hazardous waste management is a complex, interdisciplinary field that continues to grow and change as global conditions change. Mastering this evolving and multifaceted field of study requires knowledge of the sources and generation of hazardous wastes, the scientific and engineering principles necessary to eliminate the threats they pose to people and the environment, the laws regulating their disposal, and the best or most cost-effective methods for dealing with them. Written for students with some background in engineering, this comprehensive, highly acclaimed text does not only provide detailed instructions on how to solve hazardous waste problems but also guides students to think about ways to approach these problems. Each richly detailed, self-contained chapter ends with a set of discussion topics and problems. Case studies, with equations and design examples, are provided throughout the book to give students the chance to evaluate the effectiveness of different treatment and containment technologies.
