Book Subsonic Lifting Surface Analysis with Static Aeroelastic Effects

Download or read book Subsonic Lifting Surface Analysis with Static Aeroelastic Effects written by Larry Glenn Pearson and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computer program was coded to obtain static aeroelastic effects on simple planforms through the use of subsonic lifting surface theory. The program was divided into two major technical areas, aerodynamic and structural, with matrix notation used to indicate the influence of each in the final aerodynamic loading distribution. Several typical stability derivatives were then obtained to make an accurate stability and control analysis on the desired planform. (Author).

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by TPRC at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemina tion phases of the activity was transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we have concluded that it will be in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by a well-known publishing house to assure improved service and better communication. Hence, effective with this Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences will be disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. As we embark on this new partnership with Plenum, we also initiate a new venture in that this important annual reference work now covers Canadian universities as well as those in the United States. We are sure that this broader base will greatly enhance the value of these volumes.

Book Static Aeroelastic Effects on the Flutter of a Supercritical Wing

Download or read book Static Aeroelastic Effects on the Flutter of a Supercritical Wing written by and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is well known that wings with supercritical airfoils generally have lower transonic flutter speeds than similar wings with conventional airfoils and that small increases in angle of attack from zero and the accompanying static aeroelastic deformations have further detrimental effects on transonic flutter. This paper presents results of an effort to calculate the effects of angle of attack and the associated aeroelastic deformation on the flutter of a highly swept supercritical wing (TF-8A) by use of modified strip analysis. The spanwise distributions of steady-state section life-curve slope and aerodynamic calculations for as input for these calculations were obtained from static aeroelastic calculations for the wing by use of hte FL022 transonic code and an assumed dynamic pressure. The process is iterative so that flutter can be obtained at the same dynamic pressure as that used to calculate the statically deformed shape and loading about which the flutter oscillation occurs (matched conditions). Investigation results show that the unconventional backward turn of the transonic dip in the experimental flutter boundary for angles of attack greater than zero is caused by variations in mass ratio and not by static aeroelastic deformation, although inclusion of the latter appears to be required for quantitative accuracy in the calculations. For the very high subsonic Mach numbers of this investigation, quantitative accuracy will also require inclusion of viscous effects on shock strength and location.

Book A Modern Course in Aeroelasticity

Download or read book A Modern Course in Aeroelasticity written by E.H. Dowell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aeroelasticity is the study of flexible structures situated in a flowing fluid. Its modern origins are in the field of aerospace engineering, but it has now expanded to include phenomena arising in other fields such as bioengineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering and nuclear engineering. The present volume is a teaching text for a first, and possibly second, course in aeroelasticity. It will also be useful as a reference source on the fundamentals of the subject for practitioners. In this third edition, several chapters have been revised and three new chapters added. The latter include a brief introduction to `Experimental Aeroelasticity', an overview of a frontier of research `Nonlinear Aeroelasticity', and the first connected, authoritative account of `Aeroelastic Control' in book form. The authors are drawn from a range of fields including aerospace engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, rotorcraft and turbomachinery. Each author is a leading expert in the subject of his chapter and has many years of experience in consulting, research and teaching.
