Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report studies of B → X{sub u}l[nu] decays, based on a sample of 88 million B{bar B} events recorded with the BABAR detector. From both tagged and untagged B{bar B} events we have isolated inclusive charmless decays in kinematic regions for which the dominant background from B → X{sub c}l[nu] is reduced by making requirements on different variables: the electron energy E{sub l}, the momentum transfer q2, and the hadronic mass m{sub X}. Using theoretical calculations we extrapolate to the total decay rate to determine the CKM matrix element.

Book excerpt: Based on a data sample of an integrated luminosity of 57.4 fb[sup -1] at the [Upsilon](4S) resonance taken with the BABAR detector using the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy B-Factory, hadronic decays of B meson with the final states D(*) and three pions are studied. The study is performed by fully reconstructing the exclusive decays of B [yields] D(*) a[sub 1](1260) and the non-resonant modes B [yields] D(*) [rho][sup 0][pi] and B [yields] D(*) [pi][pi][pi]. The current status of the study is presented and a dominant B [yields] D(*) a[sub 1](1260) decay is shown.

Exclusive decays B[sup 0][yields] D[sup*-] D[sub s][sup (*)+] have been identified with a partial reconstruction technique and their branching ratios have been measured. Fully reconstructed B[sup 0] decays in the hadronic modes B[sup 0][yields] D[sup*-][pi][sup+] and B[sup 0][yields] D[sup*-][rho][sup+] have been also studied and the measurement of their absolute branching fractions is reported.

Here we report a measurement of the branching fraction and a study of the CP parity content for the decay B° → D*D*− with the BABAR detector. With data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.7 fb−1 collected at the?(4S) resonance during 1999-2000, we determine the branching fraction to be?(B° → D*+D*−) = (8.0 ± 1.6(stat) ± 1.2(syst.)) x 10−4. The measured fraction of the component with odd CP parity is 0.22 ± 0.18(stat) ± 0.03(syst). Observation of a significant number of candidates in the decay modes B° → D*+D− and B+ → D*+D*° is reported. All results presented in this note are preliminary.

Using the fully reconstructed decays, both the B° B{sup +-} masses and their difference is measured. Finally the contributions of CP even and odd amplitudes in the decay B → J/[psi] K* are determined from an angular analysis.

Book excerpt: Flavor oscillations of neutral B mesons have been studied with e[sup +]e[sup -] annihilation data collected at center of mass energies near the [Upsilon](4S) at the PEP-II asymmetric collider with the BABAR detector. One B[sup 0] is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay to a flavor eigenstate. The flavor of the other B in the event is determined using an inclusive tagging algorithm which exploits the correlations between the flavor of the b quark and the charges of its decay products. By fitting the decay-time distribution of the observed mixed and unmixed final states, the oscillation frequency, [Delta]m[sub d], is determined to be 0.516 [+-] 0.016(stat.) [+-] 0.010(syst.) ps[sup -1].

Book excerpt: The authors report updates on two analyses of inclusive semileptonic B decays based on a dataset of 89 million B[bar B] events recorded with the BABAR detector at the [Upsilon](4S) resonance. Events are selected by fully reconstructing the decay of one B meson and identifying a charged lepton from the decay of the other [bar B] meson. IN the first analysis, the measurement of the first and second moment of the hadronic mass distribution in Cabibbo-favored [bar B] [yields] X[sub c][ell][bar [nu]] decays allows for the determination of the nonperturbative parameters [bar [Lambda]] and [lambda][sub 1] of Heavy Quark Effective Theory (HQET) and V[sub cb]. In the second analysis, the hadronic mass distribution is used to measure the inclusive charmless semileptonic branching fraction and to determine V[sub ub].
