Book Study of the Arctic Heat Sink

Download or read book Study of the Arctic Heat Sink written by Earle A. Ripley and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was conducted to document the variability of the Arctic heat sink; to investigate possible effects of these variations on northern hemispheric circulation patterns; and to look for relationships between Arctic heat sink variations and sea-surface temperature anomalies. To meet these objectives, several characterizations of the Arctic heat sink were proposed; relevant datasets for investigating these characterizations are either provided or described; and preliminary analyses of the relationships between variations in the Arctic heat sink (in accordance with these characterizations), sea-surface temperature anomalies, and circulation patterns are presented.

Book Polar Ice and Global Warming in Cryosphere Regions

Download or read book Polar Ice and Global Warming in Cryosphere Regions written by Neloy Khare and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-03-21 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polar Ice and Global Warming in Cryosphere Regions is based on recent and past climate variabilities data gathered through satellites and spatial-temporal analysis to explain the role of global warming on cryosphere regions such as high-latitude Himalaya, Arctic and Antarctic regions, and the surrounding Southern Ocean and Arctic Ocean. Through several case studies the book describes the atmospheric processes and their interactions with high-latitude regions toward a better understanding of climate variability. Understanding cryosphere regions helps readers develop plausible models for disaster risk management and policy on different polar events. Features Presents a thorough review on climate variability over the Southern Ocean and Antarctica, and the impact of climate variability and global warming on cryosphere regions Explains how the inferred climatological environmental conditions using natural archives may shed light on climate scenarios in cryosphere regions Includes case studies on globally connected geoscientific phenomena in the Himalayan, Arctic, and Antarctic regions Discusses the use of natural archives to explain the current climate scenario in the cryosphere regions Intended for researchers, academics, and graduate students following oceanography, meteorology, or environmental studies, and those working on projects related to climate change in governmental organizations, institutions, and global NGOs, this book outlines ways in which readers can initiate plans and policies to help mitigate the effects of global warming in these regions.

Download or read book Solving the Climate Puzzle written by Javier Vinós and published by Critical Science Press. This book was released on 2023-11-01 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climate change is the most important scientific issue of our time, catalyzing a profound societal shift based on our perceived understanding of it. While many books explain what we already know about climate change, this book explores what we admit we do not understand about it. In doing so, it reveals a previously overlooked mechanism of climate change, one that operates in the background and eludes the scrutiny of prevailing climate theories and models. Astonishingly, this phenomenon is clearly evident in numerous climate studies, casting a new light on climate change that warrants a critical reevaluation of many of the conclusions presented in the IPCC Assessment Reports. Regardless of your position on climate change or your familiarity with the underlying science, this book offers a wealth of knowledge and a profound shift in your understanding of the dynamics that govern climate variability. With 134 illustrations (black and white in the paperback edition), this book aims to make climate science accessible to a broad audience, and only you, the reader, can ultimately determine the extent to which it succeeds in this goal.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to understand variations in global atmospheric circulation and to improve capabilities for long range forecasting it seems logical to study variations in the main atmospheric heat source (the tropical belt) and the two main heat sinks (the arctic and antarctic). The present report gives a plan for detailed studies of the northern heat sink as proposed by a group of Soviet scientists. (Author).
